Pho City is a solid go-to for a comforting bowl of pho! The broth is clear, flavorful, and well-balanced, with tender meats and fresh herbs. Their portions are generous, and the service is quick and friendly. It’s a clean, casual spot perfect for a satisfying meal whether you’re dining in or grabbing takeout. Definitely worth a visit for pho lovers!

Pho City’s vermicelli dish was absolutely delicious! The noodles were fresh and perfectly cooked, and the grilled meat had a great smoky flavor. I loved how everything was well-balanced—from the crisp veggies to the tasty fish sauce on the side. Portion size was generous too. It’s a go-to spot if you’re craving a light yet satisfying Vietnamese meal!

I had the good fortune of being invited to this lovely Vietnamese restaurant for lunch. Located next to a famous Vietnamese Submarine Restaurant across from the Harry Hays Building it makes sense that they would open here.

The decor is fresh, modern and clean. The washrooms are spotless and in excellent repair.

The usual options are on the menu, but there are many modern fusion options as well. It makes for an exciting gourmet experience!

I had the Shrimp Salad Rolls and found them to be absolutely fresh and delicious!

The Pho City Wonton Soup with egg noodles was massive and tasted great! I made sure that there was not one drop left in the end because even the broth is fantastic!

The service was pretty quick as well.

Thank you for the great experience.

A nice location in Calgary’s Chinatown, specializing in Vietnamese dishes! We walked in as a group of 6 on a busy day and were immediately seated at a high table. Service wasn’t the greatest, however they got the job done. They also caused some confusion when they mixed up the name of a dish and caused us to believe they took our order wrong, when in reality, the correct dishes were made. The food tasted great and portions were sufficient. They also had a nice combo for weekends which included a bowl of noodles, a rice fresh roll, and a pop, which we took advantage of. Overall, this is comparable to the pho restaurants that I’ve been to in my hometown, and I would recommend this place for a quick meal in Calgary!

Even though it didn’t feel as authentic as some other Vietnamese places I’ve been to, I still really enjoyed the food! The regular portions were huge and fairly priced. The place was nice and clean (even the toilets ;)). We also appreciated very long opening hours (they close at 12am only Thu-Sat though)!

Went to Pho City for the first time tonight and we were blown away! The service was SO fast, the Pho was delicious and very large serving for the regular. And finally, the GF spring rolls were amazing. Being GF it is a true to get spring rolls and these ones were delicious!! We will be back.

A great location in the city core with good food at good pricing.

Food is fresh and reasonably priced. Portions are a good size, and lots of options available from Vietnamese classics to Boba Tea.

Getting seated and ordering is quick and easy. Wait times can be a little long depending on time of day and peak hours, but not unreasonable.

Atmosphere is clean, warm and quaint. Smaller venue with seating available or takeout.

Overall, would recommend. Delicious food, at decent pricing.

As a Vietnamese traveller, I was seriously impressed by the Phở here—rich, aromatic broth with perfectly cooked beef and fresh herbs. The flavor is truly authentic, just like back home. Easily the best Phở in town. The Vietnamese milk coffee was also excellent—strong, smooth, and perfectly sweetened. Thank you for bringing the true taste of Vietnamese cuisine to the world. Pho Dau Bo is a clean spot with friendly staff and solid service. The pho is good—not the best I’ve had, but decent overall. The broth is just okay though; it lacks that deep, rich flavor you’d expect from slow-simmered ox bones. One downside for me is that they use plastic bowls, plates, and utensils, which takes away from the dining experience. Also, prices are on the higher side for what you get.

I visited Pho Dau Bo for the second time recently, and sadly, I left quite disappointed.

While I was initially excited to return, the overall experience fell short. The atmosphere felt rather gloomy, made worse by the large rays kept in a tank that is far too small for such majestic creatures. It was upsetting to see them in such a confined, barren space with no enrichment. It genuinely affected my appetite, and I found it difficult to enjoy the meal knowing animals nearby were visibly distressed.

The food itself was okay, some of the Vietnamese crêpe options were creative and flavourful—but overall, the portion sizes were small, and I left still hungry, despite our bill nearing $100 for three people. Unfortunately, the service didn’t lift the experience either. Staff seemed disengaged, and the energy in the space was low.

I’m surprised by the volume of glowing reviews, as my experience didn’t align with them. I appreciate the creativity in parts of the menu, but between the animal welfare concerns, small portions, and lacklustre service, I won’t be returning.

I ordered a large soup and it only filled my bowl up half way barely any broth. I called and he says we only have one size container. for the broth. meanwhile it was barely 3/4 full. he tells me he will tell his boss. not good enough. refund my order or send me the right amount of food. I have eaten at around 90% of the pho places in the city and this was the least amount of food I have been given. I have eaten in the actual restaurant and they give you more when you dine in but that shouldn’t matter you should receive the same amount eat in or out. Those pictures are supposed to be a large soup lol

Pho with additional bone marrow is a great combination.. the portion so generous. Luckily, we come after rush lunch hour, so the service is quick. They have oxtail and beef ribs, too. We will come again to try their other menu.. so recommended

I love Pho, especially Bun bo hue. I always try this first whenever I go to a pho place, you can check my reviews. This place is one of the best bun bo hue and the service is amazing, when we went there for dinner, although the place was close but we wanted to try the Ca Phe Sua Da, they still served it to us. We tried their bone marrow for the first time and the dip brought it to the next level. Thanks for the service and for sure we’ll be back!

I just recently visited this place a second time after a while from the first time going there and ordered two beef ball noodle soups with two appetizers. The very HOT soups were served in a plastic bowl which usually isn’t a good idea but that wasn’t the main problem.
I smelled sourness when I came closer to the broth so I tried the beef balls and they tasted expired, both bowls had beef balls that tasted off. To ensure we weren’t overreacting I tried two more beef balls but it was clear something was wrong. We brought this attention to the staff after complaining about the taste but they charged us for the noodle soups anyways despite us barely touching it.
They offered free containers (which they usually charged for), but why would we want to take home food that we explicitly said tasted expired and inedible. They also argued that other customers that day or the man behind us didn’t complain about them but why can their opinions matter but ours wont? The staff member also gave out a little laugh at us when we were trying to calmly tell him we weren’t going to pay for the soups, this was while he was trying to hand the containers for the food we didn’t want. We wanted to leave and just pay for the appetizers but they still argued against us so we had enough and paid FULL then walked away. Never coming back here again.
(Photo proof to prove we were actually there)

Best vegan/vegetarian vermicelli I’ve ever had! Loved this place since being recommended there 2020 by a friend saying it was a great meal to take and eat in the park. This pic is what she sent me and I was sold because she’s a certified foodie!

I’ve not lived in Calgary since 2021 but it will be my first and last stop the next time in there. I recommend it to anyone going to Calgary and one time had someone drive it to me in Edmonton and it was still good!

I usually ordered it to go but the one time I dined in it was a delight

11/10 recommend!

If you order delivery call them directly instead of the apps, very good service

Dropped by the first time and the level of service was very good nice and friendly. My wife enjoyed her Pho and I enjoyed the spring rolls and fried wontons. The fried rice wasn’t the greatest… Very little shrimp and chicken. The washrooms are a little dated and could use some work. Especially the paper towel holder looked like something you would see in a gas station. Overall if you haven’t stopped here to try it out it’s worth a visit.

Good option for Vietnamese if you’re in the area. But pretty on par with most places out there. Food came out fast but they didn’t refill the water unless asked. I remember when Vietnamese also used to be an affordable meal but easy now it’s over $20 pp. Like $10 for salad rolls. Seems clean but old.

Ordered the beef/beef ball pho and diy wrap combo. Not bad, but not great. Everything was pretty average. I didn’t really like the noodles that came with the diy wraps. Usually it comes with the thinner ones. Decent prices with decent portions.

The 31b is the best of the 3 types of pho we tried. The bun bo hue was good too. The beef and beef ball soup was decent but I’ve had better in other places. Nobody could finish the regular size coz they were huge.

We also had the pork vermicelli which was okay. My hungry husband finished his bowl.

I would highly highly recommend this place for someone craving peanut butter sate pho. I’d come back if that’s what I have a craving for but not if I’m wanting BBH or regular beef pho.

We also tried the fried pork spring rolls which was okay, honestly not the most flavourful but really basic and typical for many Vietnamese restaurants, and the salad rolls (beef) was sub par for me.

Service was fast.

Really nice people. I got the vegetable tofu with crispy egg noodles #59. Very cool presentation, vegetables were fresh and had a nice bit of crunch but it was way too salty without much flavour. Everyone else got the vermicelli with spring rolls and loved it so i guess I ordered wrong.

My Absolute FAVE in Calgary. Granted I have only tried 5 now. But at least a decent amount from one super well known or voted for….to a new one in University and others less known. The broth here for ME is the BEST! It actually has colour but the flavor for me is amazing ..light but not clear like I found others to be translucent clear and almost tasteless. Like needing the sauces etc.

Speaking of sauces I love Pho Haoi’s taste more authentic than just brand Sriracha ..though dont get me wrong that is tasty and has its place… I just enjoy the home made. And they keep their sauces clean and have fish sauce!
I enjoy #1 .. I had a number 2 but enjoy the rare beef more. Served with tea as well which is so lovely and appreciated.

I ❤️ Pho Hoai definitely recommend.

PS green juice was tasty tons of health benefits. Wasn’t bad but I definitely had only ordered it based on the picture of a fresh juice cup. My bad I didn’t ask lol I assumed they were making it in house. But totally fine. Was still good. Only for those who really can handle true green juice.. lol which is fine with me!

Beef pho and pho sate were okay, my Quang was watery and less flavourful. None of them tastes authentic like when we tried in Vietnam but tasty regardlessly. The people there were very friendly and you can sit outside the restaurant but inside the mall.

There’s a reason this place is always busy during lunch time during office hours. Whenever the weather gets cold or I’m craving some nice and homey I visit Pho Hoai. They have upped the price over the last couple of years but it’s definitely due to the cost of everything else, my only complaint for my Bun Bo Hue is all the noodles were very short like (2 inches in length) was difficult to finish the bowl.

Update after 3 years in 2025 :

I’ve been eating here since 2022. The portion size has slightly decreased and prices have gone up — understandable. Due to working hybrid this year, I’ve only visited twice. However, on both occasions, I was overcharged — that’s a 100% billing error rate, which makes it hard for me to believe it’s just a coincidence.

Last time, the bill was $3x.28, but I was charged $3x.30 on my credit card. This time, the total was $33.58, but I was charged $33.65 — an extra $0.07. It’s not a big amount, but when I asked about it, there was no explanation or apology. It left me with serious doubts about the restaurant’s honesty.

I strongly recommend that everyone calculate your total yourself before paying. I’ve personally decided to blacklist this restaurant and won’t be coming back.

P.S. I went on a Sunday for lunch — there were only about 4 tables of customers. It wasn’t busy, but I was rushed to order three times within five minutes. Very unpleasant experience.

Is really tasty, we ordered extra large and share

Just craving some good Vietnamese take out. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality & freshness of the food. Was so delicious . Not pictured because I was already half way through the soup before I realized I forgot to take a photo. Bun Bo Hue is their signature noodle soup. So delicous. Atmosphere was typical of a Asian soup restaurant. I was in/out with my pickup order in 5 min. The server was friendly & polite. Will definitely dine in next time for the full experience.

This restaurant has actually gone down hill. Food is not as tasty anymore. The pho broth tastes like MSG. Servers look upset all the times for no reason. They served rotten beansprout and tiny amount of dipping sauce. The to go containers are tiny and filled less than half. Won’t come back and not recommend.

Pretty good bun bo hue and the spring rolls were delicious. Good portion sizes. I do like how they have the blood pudding with it whereas a lot of places in the city that does this dish doesn’t have a topping like that.

If you would’ve asked me years ago, I would have said that Song Huong was the best in Calgary especially for their Bun Bo Hue. However, I found this time around it was just mediocre.
I’ve been a huge fan of Song Huong for many years. I wrote a review a few years back indicating it was my favourite places to grab a Bun Bo Hue in Calgary. I recently ate here and I had to update my review.

The Bun Bo Hue has been something I’ve been getting here for many years. It has been a while since I have eaten here and I do have to say that this time around it wasn’t anything to rave about. I found the meat portions have decreased significantly which was disappointing.

Authentically, they do offer the blood pudding still inside the Bun Bo Hue which is tasty. However, I thought the broth had too much MSG and it just almost tasted like the whole soup was made with fish sauce.

There was only another table the server waited on when I ate here recently and the service was quite terrible. Despite there being only 2 tables which were side by side, the server did not check up on us after serving the food. Not even once!

Another huge turn off was the condition of their bathroom. There was urine all over the toilet seat and toilet paper all over the floor. It just looked very filthy. The condition of the bathrooms are a big indicator for me which is correlated with the overall cleanliness of the restaurant. I was not impressed with the state of it at all.

It’s a far drive from where I am in city to get to this restaurant in the first place. Now with mediocre service and very average tasting food I’m pretty sure I won’t be driving the long way to dine here. There are restaurants in par or maybe even better as they are cleaner than Song Huong at least. It’s a shame as I remember back in the day when I would buy huge pots of Bun bo hue from Song Huong in the old location. It is a shame the quality has dropped to this degree.

Been to many Pho over the city and this one takes it for the soup, maybe a little bit too much MSG but the ingredients were fresh, noodle not too firm or soggy and good portion for the price charged

Go here once or twice a month, always order the same thing. The Bun Bo Hue is the best in town, I’ve tried probably 25 different restaurants over the last decade, and Song Huong is the best. The frozen raw beef salad is amazing accompaniment for me, maybe an ice coffee if the mood fits, and I have a much cheaper version of therapy.

My favourite Viet place in town. Great service from everyone, giant portions of food and the taste was top tier. I come here every time I’m in Calgary. Their beef tartare is the most famous and I can see why. Sliced thinly and combined with a vinegary sauce to cut out all the fat meatiness, it was divine. So two boys that went to the restaurant and order two dishes, one for each of them.
Their Pho is mental and their service was fast and friendly.

Noodle King Vietnamese Restaurant is one of the best of authentic cuisine.

The dinning service at the Noodle King Vietnamese Restaurant is generally quick and friendly, making it an easy choice for all solo/family dinings, casual meals, quick lunches and group gatherings.

This unique place had only one-size meals. Unlike other Vietnamese Restaurants, they had three sizes. Small, normal, and large. Affordable prices and varies of meals.

This place had the most respectable trained staff. They were friendly, attentive and efficient. Quick service was crucial for maintaining pleasant dining experience.

I was shocked that one of the staff was handle professionally . She was multi-tasking with a group of 10 customers + at the checkout of payments with ease, in addition; she was on the phone taking orders at the same time. She earned my respects and values.

#38 – Noodle King special vermicelli is one of the signature meal.

The combination of flavors of the dish was truly delightful. The savory beef and pork paired well with the crunchy spring rolls, while the fresh vegetables added a cooling contrast. The secret sauce added everything together, balanced sweet, sour and the after-taste burp.

Only negative was there was no official website. They had Skip, however, this restaurant is not registered.

Unbelievable experiences and highly recommend for the locals and tourists.

Sadly we were quite disappointed with the flavours of the pho and bun bo hue. Visiting from Edmonton and this was close to the hotel. Had good reviews so we gave it a try. It was steady with locals so perhaps it’s the flavour profile that’s more local. Definitely not for us.

The broth here has a deep, complex flavor, clearly made with time and care. The noodles are fresh, and the meat portions are generous for the price. While the herbs and garnishes are standard, they’re crisp and well-prepared. The best part is the price; its significantly cheaper than other trendier spots. A reliable choice for a satisfying, no-frills meal

Ate here while in Calgary because it was recommended by a YouTuber. The satay beef noodle soup is amazing! Make sure to order the special beef noodle soup and then upgrade to satay by adding $3. You’ll get a lot more meat (beef balls, tripe, and brisket) compared to the plain satay beef noodle.

Excellent service also (looks like it’s family owned). This will be a go-to place every time I’m in Calgary.

This place is often regarded as the best Vietnamese noodle restaurant in Calgary by many in the Chinese community. I decided to give it a try today. Their most famous dish is the Satay Vietnamese Beef Noodles, but since I wasn’t in the mood for something spicy, I opted for the soup noodles instead.

The flavor was excellent, though whether it’s truly the best is subjective. Regardless, if you enjoy Vietnamese noodles, it’s worth a visit.

I also ordered the pan-fried dumplings. They were decent, but unless you’re a big fan of dumplings, you’re not missing out if you skip them.

Next time, I’ll definitely try their signature satay noodles.

Solid average Vietnamese fare here if you need a quick fix and in the area! The menu is varied, in particular the sate noodle soup options, as they offer sate clear broth and peanutty sate with beef, chicken or seafood as protein options. The spring rolls were average (not outstanding but sufficiently delicious to hit the spot if you’re craving spring rolls)!

Some of the best Vietnamese I’ve had with a great selection of vegan options! I’ve dined here many times and likely had everything from their vegan menu and have never left disappointed. Some personal highlights are the veggie salad rolls contain fried tofu, something I never see from other places, normally it’s just their shrimp rolls minus the shrimp leaving you wanting more but SEN goes above and beyond and makes sure even the meatless diners get premium ingredients. And another surprising inclusion being that their vermicelli bowls come with a veggie «fish sauce» which I also never see anywhere else and being able to enjoy this dish with all the accompaniments is delightful. Portion sizes are great and will never leave you wanting more. Have dined here often and will continue to do so! Keep it up SEN 🙂

Ordered takeout after a long day, hoping for a satisfying meal.

I went with the Shrimp Salad Rolls, the Saigon Royal Special Vermicelli and an extra portion of porkballs.

Unfortunately, the salad rolls that arrived weren’t shrimp at all—instead, it was a sautéed meat of some kind. Pretty disappointing, especially since I was really craving those shrimp rolls.

On the upside, the Saigon Royal Vermicelli looked great right out of the box and came with a generous portion—definitely enough for one very hungry person. The shrimp, charbroiled pork, and meatballs all had that classic Vietnamese flavor I was expecting. It wasn’t mind-blowing, but it was tasty and filling, and the price felt fair.

The standout for me? The Porkballs. Super flavorful and definitely the most memorable part of the meal. Glad I decided to order extra!

Bottom line: Calgary has a ton of Vietnamese spots, so it’s tough for any one place to really shine. While Saigon Royal wasn’t my personal favorite, it does have a solid reputation and plenty of positive reviews.

Give it a try—who knows, it might hit the spot for you.

I’m a professional mixed martial coach, alongside my competitor Katie we decided to check out Saigon Royal restaurant for our pre-meal the night before an event here in Calgary. The service was absolutely outstanding. Better than the service was the food. I loved my vermicelli plate and the restaurant did a great job of accommodating to my fighters vegan restrictions. Her meal was absolutely amazing as well. If you’re in this neighborhood and you’re looking for great authentic Vietnamese food, I could not recommend this place enough. Restaurants typically offer various Pho options with different broth bases (beef, chicken, vegetarian) and customizable toppings, showcasing regional variations.

    Banh Mi Offerings

The iconic Banh Mi, a Vietnamese sandwich, is commonly available at many establishments. They generally provide a range of fillings including grilled pork, chicken, tofu, or meatballs, layered with pickled vegetables, cilantro, and often a drizzle of flavorful sauces, demonstrating the influence of French cuisine.

    Vermicelli Noodle Dishes (Bun)

Bun, or vermicelli noodle dishes, are frequently on the menu. Restaurants commonly offer a variety of combinations with grilled meats, seafood, or tofu, alongside fresh herbs, bean sprouts, and a light, tangy sauce—a popular choice for lighter meals.

    Rice Plate Combinations (Com Dia)

Frequently Asked Questions about Vietnamese Restaurants in Calgary

    What makes Vietnamese cuisine unique?

Vietnamese cuisine is renowned for its emphasis on fresh ingredients, light broths, and a harmonious balance of flavors – sweet, sour, salty, bitter, and spicy. It draws influence from Chinese, French, and Southeast Asian culinary traditions, resulting in a unique and refreshing eating experience. Key ingredients often include rice noodles, herbs, fish sauce, lime, and a generous amount of chili.

What are some popular dishes I should try?

Several dishes are particularly popular and represent the essence of Vietnamese cooking. Pho (noodle soup) is arguably the most famous, followed by Banh Mi (Vietnamese sandwich), Bun Cha (grilled pork with rice noodles), Goi Cuon (fresh spring rolls), and Com Tam (broken rice with grilled pork). Each dish offers a distinct flavor profile and texture.

Where are the best areas to find Vietnamese restaurants in Calgary?

Several areas in Calgary are known for their concentration of Vietnamese restaurants. Forest Lawn and Monterey Park consistently offer a large variety. You're also likely to find good options in the area around International Avenue (17th Avenue SE). These areas have established communities which have fostered the growth of authentic dining experiences.

How authentic are Vietnamese restaurants across different price ranges?

While quality can vary, authenticity isn't solely determined by price. Some more affordable restaurants can be incredibly authentic, relying on traditional recipes passed down through generations. More upscale restaurants may focus on presentation and a broader menu, sometimes at the expense of strict adherence to traditional cooking methods. Research and reviews are valuable tools for discerning authenticity.

Are Vietnamese restaurants generally accommodating to dietary restrictions?

Most Vietnamese restaurants are reasonably accommodating to dietary restrictions. Many dishes can be modified to be vegetarian or vegan, often by substituting tofu or vegetables for meat. Gluten-free options are becoming more prevalent as well, although you should always confirm with the restaurant to ensure there's no cross-contamination.

What does "Pho" actually consist of?

Pho is a signature Vietnamese noodle soup, typically made with a flavorful broth simmered for hours with beef or chicken bones, aromatic spices, and a touch of sweetness. It’s served with wide rice noodles, thinly sliced meat (usually beef or chicken), and a generous helping of fresh herbs, bean sprouts, lime wedges, and chili sauce. The broth is the defining element.

What’s the difference between Pho and Bun Bo Hue?

While both are noodle soups, Pho is characterized by a clear, slightly sweet broth and generally uses beef or chicken. Bun Bo Hue, on the other hand, has a richer, spicier broth flavored with lemongrass, shrimp paste, and chili oil. It typically features beef shank, pork knuckles, and a distinct red hue. The flavor profiles are quite different.

Are Vietnamese restaurants often cash-only establishments?

While it’s becoming less common, some smaller, family-run Vietnamese restaurants may still prefer cash. However, the majority now accept debit and credit cards. It’s always a good idea to check the restaurant’s payment options beforehand, especially for smaller establishments.

What is "Banh Mi" and why is it so popular?

Banh Mi is a Vietnamese sandwich that combines a crispy French baguette with Vietnamese fillings, typically including grilled pork, pate, mayonnaise, pickled carrots and daikon, cilantro, and chili peppers. It’s incredibly popular due to its flavorful combination of textures and tastes – the crisp bread, savory meat, tangy pickles, and spicy chili. It's a portable and satisfying meal.

How can I tell a truly authentic Vietnamese restaurant from one that caters primarily to Western tastes?

Look for signs of authenticity. Observe the menu – does it feature a wide array of lesser-known dishes beyond the basics? Is the broth cloudy and fragrant, indicating long simmering? Does the restaurant serve a primarily Vietnamese clientele? Are fresh herbs and vegetables a prominent feature? These are often indicators of a restaurant prioritizing traditional preparations.
