We absolutely LOVE Chasin’ Tails! Their dog daycare is amazing — the staff truly care about the pups and it shows. One of my favourite things is the live webcams… it’s so fun (and reassuring!) to peek in throughout the day and see our dog playing and having a blast.

They always go the extra mile — we especially love their Stampede breakfast every year. It’s such a thoughtful touch and makes the whole experience feel like a community.

Couldn’t recommend them more. Thank you, Chasin’ Tails!

I’m beyond excited to be attending Wednesday night classes with the amazing Jessie and Stephanie! They’re not only fabulous instructors but also share my passion for positive, force-free training. As a local trainer myself, it’s incredibly refreshing to be part of a community that aligns with my values. I’m thoroughly enjoying the classes and can’t wait to continue learning and growing with this wonderful team!

ALWAYS the go to choice for kennels when travelling or even coming to Calgary for the day to do some shopping or what not. Have been using chasing tails for around 5 years or so now with our two lab mixes, and they love coming here. So much so, they know when we hit the nearest light where they are going and start getting excited.

I’m in the Uk on a family/business visit. However I can see my little dog on a video link 2-3 times a day. Amazing! He looks better than I thought he would and I saw him sleeping comfortably after a day outside. I can’t wait to get home, but I’m very happy that my precious dog is safe, has doggy company, and kind human carers. excellent.

I can’t say enough great things about Chasin’ Tails dog grooming service! From start to finish, the experience was fantastic. The staff is incredibly friendly, professional, and clearly passionate about what they do.

The grooming results were absolutely perfect—Rumi came out looking fresh, fluffy, and smelling amazing! Her coat was silky smooth, nails trimmed perfectly, and even the little details, like his ears and paws, were given special attention.

It’s clear that they go above and beyond to provide top-quality service. If you’re looking for a groomer that treats your fur baby like family, this is the place to go. I highly recommend Chasin’ Tails!

They took good care of Candy. The best thing about Chasin Tails is the live stream camera. I get to check Candy all the time. They have staff on site all the time which is great. My Candy found her confidence back during her stay.

**Amazing Experience at Pawsitively Pooched!**

I can’t say enough great things about **Pawsitively Pooched**! From the moment I walked in, I could tell this was a place where dogs are truly loved and cared for. The facility is clean, spacious, and thoughtfully designed to keep the pups happy and engaged.

A huge shoutout to **Jason** and the entire team for their professionalism and kindness. Jason is clearly passionate about what he does, and it shows in the way he interacts with both the dogs and their owners. He took the time to address all my questions and made me feel completely at ease leaving my pup in their care.

Every time I pick up my dog, he’s happy, well-exercised, and excited to go back. It’s such a relief knowing he’s in a safe and fun environment. If you’re looking for a top-notch doggy daycare, **Pawsitively Pooched is the place to go!** Highly recommend!

I have a nervous wheaten, who has never once had a pleasant grooming experience, so we went with the good reviews at Pawsitively pooched, and I am pleased to say that I am adding another one! She was still quite nervous, but I left with a great feeling that she wasn’t left aside, or not reassured! Thank you for taking care of my Hazel! We will be back 🙂

Sadly, no Pawsitively Pooched for this dog family again.

We have taken our Westiepoo, Leo, to PP since his first grooming as a puppy three years ago. We have been happy with the professionalism, kindness of the staff and the grooming work on Leo.

However, the last two visits have been progressively worse: Ride, dismissive staff member three months ago who stayed on his personal phone while my husband waited to pick up our dog after grooming, then overcharged for both the groom and an hour of daycare at the full fee. We thought the price had increased until our visit today.

Today was the last time though. Leo was booked with C, the groomer from last visit, but we do not believe a professional dog groomer completed his grooming. He has deep gouge patches all across his chest and leg, his ear trim is an uneven mess with the inside not trimmed, and his facial fur is lopsided and still stained. What a mess! We are just grateful that his skin was not cut as it was very close. Our easygoing eighteen pound dog looks like he was groomed by an unsupervised beginner.

What an absolute joke of a place.

Showed up to The Dog Day with a confirmed appointment for our uncles dog, just 10 minutes past drop-off—a deadline they never once told us about. Not in any email, not over the phone, nothing. But sure enough, the long-haired guy at the front desk—headphones in, zero eye contact, acting like we were invisible—decided he was too busy ignoring customers to bother doing his job.

When we finally got him to acknowledge I exist, he couldn’t have been more smug and dismissive. Didn’t apologize, didn’t care, just flat-out refused to take our dog like I’d shown up hours late with no appointment. Are you kidding me?

The attitude was unreal. Zero professionalism, zero compassion, and clearly zero training in how to deal with actual human beings. If you enjoy being treated like a nuisance by a guy too busy listening to music to care that you’re standing there, this is the place for you.

For everyone else—avoid this place unless you want to waste your time dealing with arrogant staff and garbage customer service. Never going back, and I’ll make sure everyone I know hears about this crap experience.

We have been bringing our dogs (3 large breeds) for swimming at PP for many years now. Though only one of our dogs has weekly visits to keep her active and keen on swimming in case she requires hydro-therapy as she gets older, the staff have always been fantastic with all 3 – including our timid and apprehensive female German Shepherd. Naomi has a great manner with all the dogs and Charlie the big mixed breed is always SO excited to splash around and burn off some energy! We appreciate that Naomi continues our obedience training when entering and exiting the pool, and all the staff and customer considerations for Charlie’s leash reactivity toward other dogs. While we haven’t utilized the other services outside of hyrdo-therapy swimming, we plan to continue being swim customers for as long as we have our pups.

Edit: added pictures from Charlie’s session with Naomi tonight!

I’ve been taking my dog to Marvel for three years for agility classes. The instruction is excellent and the classes are always fun. I have 8 dogs and 7 train at Marvel for agility and obedience. My first concern at any facility is the safety of my dogs! I’ve never had to worry about this ever! The trainers are top notch! My instructor Tracey knows my dogs better than I do! She knows exactly what works for one but won’t work for the other ones. The facility is spotless,….reception is amazing… they are always there to help me with all my dogs. Extremely accommodating and helpful! I have sent many people to train here and they have not been disappointed! Most are still training there. They have so many specialty classes and clinics I don’t have to go any where else

We bought our 10 month old puppy to the Everyday Obedience Level 1 class. Ashley was a wonderful trainer. She was very animated in her teaching style which made the class fun and relaxed. She was also very patient with us humans and was gentle and affectionate with the dogs. The dogs don’t socialize in the class which actually helps as they then just have to just focus on their human. We learned a lot of great skills there. I would highly recommend Marvel

The instructors are knowledgeable and friendly, the space is great to learn and practice with all the equipment you could want, and the admin is run smoothly. We’ve especially enjoyed our level 2 classes with Kim, who really understands each dog’s unique needs and continually challenges us with new skills! Agility has been a great outlet for my high energy dog. He loves coming and literally drags me into the building every week!

Reasonable prices and did a good job grooming my pup! It’s so nice that day care is included with each groom. My dog was not scared or shaking after his appointment like he does at the last place we got him groomed – I think the gentler/non force method was to thank for that!

I recently brought my rescue pup, Nicholas hes nine months, in for a puppy groom at BBF. As expected, he was quite nervous, but he’s definitely a friendly guy at heart. The BBF team kept me updated throughout and let me know he was feeling a little scared. Instead of pushing him, they generously offered to let him stay the day—free of charge—so he could get used to the team and other dogs.

We tried again the next day, and while Nicholas was a bit more comfortable, he was still growling. Once again, the team suggested I come pick him up and didn’t charge me for the day. They kindly recommended their puppy grooming program as a more gentle introduction.

I really appreciate their active communication, patience, and the way they treated my pup like one of their own. Nicholas will definitely be signing up for their puppy & groom program—we’re lucky to have found such a thoughtful and compassionate team!

Had great experiences with my Cavalier for 5 years, unfortunately the same could not be said about my longer haired Cockalier. They were instructed not to buzz/shave the dog as we liked her longer fur. There were three mats present that we knew would have to be cut out (As we had delayed a cut due to being out of town). They did not follow the directions, and made the unilateral decision to shave the dog (without asking us) – supposedly because she was ‘full of matts’, which was inaccurate. Further, I would have hoped if they entirely were going to disregard our one instruction not to shave the dog, they would at least have the courtesy to call prior to doing so. We were shocked when we picked her up. In conversing with the manager, they were quite defensive and her response was, «We were told not to buzz her, and we didn’t buzz her, we shaved her». Considering we’re not in the grooming business, I think the terms sound pretty synonymous and should have raised a flag before they went ahead and did it. Finally, despite the decision to shave our dog, they failed to clean up the face and ears. Posting a before and after photo to show the results. Uncertain if they are not comfortable with longer hair dogs, but would advised either very clear instructions or avoiding.

Got a new to me pup who’d never been groomed ever, he’s a large dog and they were more than happy to take him no problem. They did a fantastic job with him everything looks great and he’s looking handsome as heck, I’m sure the amount of fur that needed to be brushed out was no small task so thank you everyone I’ll definitely be coming back! Also incredibly convenient that I could drop him off early before work and pick him up after it really makes it easy to fit it into a busy schedule.

I booked in for an assessment with an in home consultation. session back in December. It took almost a month to get the assessment back after several emails and phone calls. That should have been my clue I bought three in home sessions. Several times they were cancelled or the trainer was late. I actually only had two sessions The last one I was told there was car trouble ,yet again and then was told that because I don’t live in the ‘inner city’ area that it’s not convenient for the trainer No where does it say that client needs to live inner city for this service. They knew the address when I booked They offered two days at their facility or a refund for the last session. Which I took and they said they would give me some trainers closer to where I live. Still haven’t heard I live in the NE area of Calgary. Not the boonies
I would not recommend this company for private trainer It certainly wasn’t the service I thought I would be getting

BowDog is one of the only places we’ll bring our dogs for boarding in Calgary. The location is amazing! They get outdoor time, lots of cuddles and the sleeping arrangements are top notch. Took my dog for grooming and he looks so amazing. They did such a great job of his paws and he was so soft! He’s a longer double coat breed and they did a wonderful job! He also seemed so happy after his groom too. We went to other large brand stores for groom before and they did such a bad job. Bow Dog was friendly, quick and fair pricing. My dog is around 50lbs and for the full bath and groom it was around $120. I’ll be taking him back here for his grooms again for sure.

I am constantly blown away by the level of kindness, generosity, and professionalism Bow Dogs displays.

Our guy Alfie started in Daycare in Red Deer and LOVED it. May 2023 we moved to Calgary and originally put in him another daycare and noticed he just wasn’t loving it and we weren’t either. We made the switch to Bow Dogs Sept 2024 and it’s like night and day. Alfie is STOKED every time he gets to go to daycare and the staff there genuinely seem excited to see him when he goes. That’s a HUGE green flag for this dog mama! What really got me though is, I was unexpectedly laid off recently and have become unable to afford our regular scheduled daycare days. Bow Dogs reached out and offered 2 complimentary daycare passes and mentioned they miss Alfie. Their message brought me to absolute tears cause all I ever have wanted is a place where Alfie loves to go and a place where they love him just as much as he loves them. Thank you to everyone at Bow Dogs. You guys are like family to us and we cannot wait to continue to send Alfie!!

If you’re looking for an establishment that you can feel comfortable knowing your dogs are having a BLAST and being treated as you or your family would treat them, this is the place. Thanks again Bow Dogs! We love you!

I am proud to share my experience with Raising Canine.

When we started classes, our puppy Charlie (shepherd mix) was only 14 weeks old. He is a rescue and we only had him for 2 weeks before we started this training.

First class Charlie was a maniac!! Barking and wouldn’t listen. We had to be put in a separate area so to not disrupt the class. Six weeks later, Charlie was at the top of the class! He didn’t bark, he learned all the commands they taught us and actually obeyed the commands. Plus the last three classes we were in the class with the other puppies with no issues.

During the six weeks, we worked at home with Charlie on all the stuff we were taught in the classes and because of the training we received, Charlie came out a different dog at the end of six weeks. I think we are going to sign up for more classes just cause he is still young and learning.

Anyone considering puppy classes, I highly recommend Velvet & Jake with Raising Canine. I promise you will not be disappointed.

My pup and I just finished up the 6-week reactivity course with Justine. I’d say overall it’s a great starting point for reactivity skills.

I took away some great tools for my pup and I to use in the future.

I did feel like there was a lack of professionalism at times (late starts, multiple emails asking me to change my class time, not knowing what the dogs were reactive to for the first half of the course, etc).

However this was quickly mitigated by Justine taking the time to answer questions and give advice after class time had ended. You could tell she really wanted to the best for all the pups she was training.

Overall I feel like this was a great jumping off point. And if you have a more aggressive pup, I feel this would be valuable training as it’s a safe and calm environment.

Can’t recommend their training programs enough. We did the reactive dog recovery program with Justine and it is incredible how much progress our rescue dog made over the six weeks. He went from being totally uncontrollable, practically doing backflips on his leash when he saw another dog, to starting to learn how to communicate his need for space. We will definitely be coming back for the level 2 program!

They were also very accommodating when we needed to switch sessions due to a scheduling conflict.

Jake created a calm, welcoming environment for our pup Finley throughout agility training. What impressed us most was how perfectly Jake matched Finley’s energy level, building confidence without pushing too hard. Raising Canine’s approach challenges dogs mentally and physically while remaining completely respectful and force-free. If you’re looking for an agility coach who truly connects with your dog and brings out their best abilities, Jake is absolutely the right choice. We highly recommended!

I found Clever Pups to be extremely helpful and crucial for setting my dog up for success. I would recommend Clever Pups to anyone with a puppy; it truly shaped my dog for the better.

Naturally, once my dog completed Clever Pups, I signed my dog up for Core. The Core class is diverse and well-structured, designed for adult dogs that have a stable foundation in training—a description my adolescent puppy did not fit when he started Core. Overall, Core was an amazing class with well-versed trainers that I would take my dog to again now that he’s older. My only recommendation would be creating an older age minimum (at least 12 months).

Altogether, Clever Canines is an amazing establishment built with dedicated staff, thoughtful relationships with clients, and a clean, well rounded building. If you think your dog will thrive and find success in a group class, I couldn’t recommend Clever Canines enough!

Clever canines has made being a first time dog owner a pleasure. Their trainers are always happy to talk through what’s new and happening with my pup, offer advice or suggestions, and the training is next level. I am so pleased with my puppy’s behaviour after completing the pupstart and core programs, and I won’t be stopping there. I’m looking forward to seeing what more my puppy and I can learn, and as he becomes an adult dog, how we can set and achieve goals in experiencing freedom together.

I have just taken my third dog through training at Clever Canines and I have enjoyed every class. The difference between your dog before training and after is pretty amazing. There is knowledgeable staff that can answer all of your questions and reassure you that nothing your puppy is doing is unique. I would, and have, recommended the training to anyone with a puppy or even an adult dog that could use a refresher.

We completed the Hybrid Pupstart where we did classes 2x a week on zoom and also some in-person. This fit our lifestyle perfectly as we could join Clever Canines after work from out laptops. I was originally concerned about Sophie not having the socialization, and not getting the hands on attention from the pros but, we found the online learning environment worked better for us for two reasons: 1) our dog wasn’t distracted by the other dogs and 2) I could write things down and keep working with her after the training was over. We also brought Sophie to Dayschool a few times where all the training is reinforced and she had amble socialization.

Clever Canine did an amazing job coaching us through video (Tracie didn’t miss much!!!) and they are incredibly responsive and supportive. Any questions were addressed either online, offline or in the parking lot 🙂
We would choose hybrid classes again. they are the best value.

I am disappointed, my wife set up an appointment for our dog we recently picked up. She is a 1-year old Sheppard that was going to be an RCMP service dog so, when we set up the appt we told them she has not been dog socialized. When we brought her in for her first visit in less than 10-minutes they advised my wife she was too excited about other dogs and they wouldn’t work with her. I have no issue with the company deciding they are not going to take our dog but this possibility should have disclosed in the original phone call. Based on our expectation of her spending the day we made other arrangements. Had we known we would have planned accordingly and it wouldn’t have created the extreme inconvenience and missed time from work as a result.

I have never underestimated the responsibility that owners have in raising a well-mannered dog. In turn, the commitment is a big one. It took our family years to get here, and when we did Clever Canines was there to share the responsibility. They have lead us, guided us, supported us and modeled for us what raising a dog needs to look like. Our relationship with Clever Canines goes way beyond a couple of training classes, it is genuinely an invitation into a community of like minded, pupper loving people. I get compliments on how well behaved our 8 month old puppy is all the time, and I know that we didn’t get here alone. It takes a village. A pupper loving village.

We had an amazing experience at Hyper Hounds!! We enrolled our dog in the Beginner Obedience class for puppies and couldn’t be happier with the progress we saw in our puppy, Cola. I was a bit worried bringing our rescue dog to her first class due to her reactivity around other dogs however she absolutely thrived. The class size was small and our instructor, Laurie is a wealth of knowledge. We learned so much from her instruction as well as from the additional information they shared with us throughout the six weeks for practice in between classes. I would highly recommend Hyper Hounds to anyone, we can’t wait to bring Cola back for more classes 🙂

I took my first agility class at HyperHounds back in September, and I loved it so much that I signed up for more! The instructors—Becky B, Candice, and Sandy—are incredibly nice and knowledgeable. What stands out the most is how they adjust their advice during class to suit each dog’s unique needs and skill level. Their new facility, The Playground, is amazing—it’s on turf and spacious enough to run full-size courses. I still need to take a class with Kim B because I’ve heard amazing things about her classes. It’s such a supportive and fun learning environment. Highly recommend!

Over the winter, I attended an agility workshop with Candice and did a private agility lesson with Kim. Both great experiences! I learned a lot, felt supported and encouraged, had fun with my dog, and thought the PlayGround facility was top-notch. I don’t live in Calgary, but I want to come back solely for more agility instruction!

I have taken 3 classes at Hyper Hounds and loved each of them! We love our scent detection classes with Amie! She really cheers you and your pup on and helps answer any training questions you have after classes. Having an instructor who loves their job and celebrates with their students makes the world of difference when taking a class. The layout of the facility is great. Getting to and from the agility room or front room is readily accessible, and for those with disabilies as well. There’s ample parking and grass areas to let your dog potty. Reception is very kind, and I can tell they do a great job of keeping the rooms clean and tidy! The cancelation/refund policy is better here than at other locations, and the class prices are considerably better as well.

We have been going to sit happens for almost 2 months and love it! The Bright Puppy classes are great, always offering something different and a great opportunity to socialize your dog and encourage them to be neutral around other dogs. Our pup also had so much fun at puppy play time but by far the best was the nose work class, she LOVED it and we can’t wait to do more with her! Highly recommend for puppy classes

My partner and I have been attending classes at Sit Happens with our rescue puppy, Xena, since August. She was very fearful of other dogs when we got her, and we wanted to be able to socialize her in controlled settings, so the structure of the group classes here have been perfect!

She absolutely adores the classes here, and the instructors usually give her additional challenges because she learns so quickly. We plan on signing her up for dog sports such as agility and scent hurdle when our schedules allow it in the near future. Highly recommended for rescue and easily distracted dogs!

Nice enough staff and clean facility! I can not speak to the other classes… they could be great; however, I would not recommend taking your dog here for the Canine Calm Class.
At times, with the bigger pups and breeds, the trainers did not seem confident or even comfortable with the dogs.
When you pay for the Canine Calm Class for reactive dogs, the trainer should be more than confident and comfortable in what they are teaching.

Been taking our little busy boi here for some added socialization and bonus extra training and we are thrilled with the little guy who comes home at the end of his day! I would highly recommend Dogma for training your new puppy. We enrolled for 3 months and helped our new dog build a solid foundation of positive training, behaviours and socialization. Dogma has been awesome! We started with VIP pups and then Kinder pups for our Boston Terrier which helped so much for foundations. Melinda was her main trainer for the first class series and she was amazing! Our dog does Dogma Play once a week now and absolutely loves it (and she comes home very tired from playing). The Dogma pup class series was as helpful for the people as much as the pup! The trainers are exceptional and genuinely care about the dogs.

Dogma is positive reinforcement based and they honestly just are helping the process so much. I have one reactive dog and one that really lacks confidence/is shy. Their group classes are really great and flexible. Day school albeit is expensive but you can’t be the quality of care, one on one training and video updates throughout they day, they even have report cards. I cannot express how much love and appreciation I have for Dogma and their staff. From working with the branch manager Adria to the behaviour specialist Elizabeth to the founder Megan, and Director Shelley and everyone else in between. Each of the staff members we interacted with were knowledgeable, passionate and empathetic. This is the place you need if you are looking for support for your fur-member.
Being first time dog owners, we adopted our (at the time she was 6-month-old and starting her adolescent phase) Chinese Shar-Pei mix Squish. When they tell you being a dog owner is a lot of work (especially for a rescue) they were not kidding! I reached out to Dogma looking for guidance and boy did I find it and then some. I felt supported in the unknown waters of dog training, but I felt embraced with no judgement. They were flexible and worked with us and Squish’s needs and created a «road map» that we were able to take to the outside world on our own. I know if I ever need any help, I will ONLY call Dogma.

This place was great for my one pup and I! We also used their online services to help train my 2nd dog. The reactivity classes are great for desensitizing dogs to their triggers. I went from avoiding walks at any cost to being able to have a nice walk without any strain, no lunging or barking, whereas when I first adopted my rescue she was quite the handful. This company cares about its clients and its clients dogs, and reactivity classes are such a help. While I can’t speak on puppy classes or obedience classes (desensitization was always my focus) I’m sure they’re both phenomenal as well, as their philosophy is applicable to all scenarios and they make sure to only bring on trainers who care.

Overall a great and caring company with phenomenal customer service. I’ll definitely be using their services again!

Frequently Asked Questions about Pet Trainers in Calgary

What types of training do pet trainers in Calgary typically offer?

Pet trainers in Calgary provide a range of training services, catering to various needs. These include basic obedience training for puppies and adult dogs, behavior modification to address issues like aggression or anxiety, trick training for enrichment and fun, and specialized training for service dogs or therapy dogs. Some trainers also offer group classes while others focus on private lessons.

How do I choose a qualified pet trainer in Calgary?

Selecting a qualified pet trainer requires careful consideration. Look for trainers who are certified by a recognized organization, possess experience working with various breeds and temperaments, and utilize positive reinforcement methods. Checking client testimonials and seeking referrals can also provide valuable insights.

What is positive reinforcement training, and why is it preferred?

Positive reinforcement training focuses on rewarding desired behaviors to encourage repetition, rather than punishing unwanted actions. This method builds a positive relationship between the pet and trainer, reduces stress, and promotes long-term behavioral changes. It’s widely considered the most humane and effective approach to pet training.

What is the difference between group classes and private training sessions?

Group classes offer a more affordable option and provide opportunities for socialization among pets. Private training sessions, on the other hand, allow for personalized attention and address specific behavioral issues with tailored techniques. The best choice depends on the pet's personality, the owner's learning style, and the specific training goals.

How much does pet training typically cost in Calgary?

The cost of pet training in Calgary varies depending on the type of training, the trainer's experience, and the length of the program. Group classes typically cost less than private sessions. Expect to pay anywhere from $50 to $150 per class for group training and $100 to $250+ per hour for private training. Consultations can range from free to a nominal fee.

How long does it take to see results from pet training?

The time it takes to see results from pet training depends on several factors including the pet's age, breed, temperament, the consistency of training, and the severity of the behavioral issue. Basic obedience can be achieved in a few weeks, while behavior modification may require several months of dedicated effort. Ongoing practice by the owner is essential for maintaining progress.

What is the role of the pet owner in the training process?

The pet owner’s involvement is crucial for successful training. Owners are responsible for reinforcing the commands and behaviors learned during training sessions, providing consistent structure, and practicing regularly at home. Active participation and a commitment to ongoing training are essential for long-term success. Owners need to be patient and understanding.

What breeds are considered more challenging to train, and how do trainers adapt?

Some breeds, such as terriers and huskies, are often considered more challenging to train due to their independent nature and high energy levels. Trainers adapt by using high-value rewards, employing short and engaging training sessions, and incorporating mental stimulation exercises to maintain the pet's interest and motivation. Understanding breed-specific traits is key.

What happens if my pet isn’t responding well to the training methods?

If your pet isn’t responding well to the training methods, it’s important to communicate this to the trainer. They may need to adjust their approach, explore alternative techniques, or refer you to a veterinary behaviorist if a medical condition is suspected. Open communication and a willingness to try different strategies are vital.

Are there any resources available in Calgary for pet owners seeking training advice?

Yes, several resources are available. The City of Calgary’s Animal Services often provides educational materials and may offer low-cost training classes. Several local pet stores and veterinary clinics also host training workshops or can recommend qualified trainers. Online forums and community groups can also provide valuable support and advice.
