Calforex Currency Exchange - Calgary Downtown

I just picked up some foreign currency here just so I had some when I landed. The exchange rate was quick a bit lower than just sending yourself cash using Western Union. When I needed currency in Argentina, I learned the best was was to wire yourself money to pick up at and branch (They are like Starbucks - EVERYWHERE). Western Union gave you close to the black market rate which was MUCH better than the official rate. It's convenient to have a bit of cash when you land, but you are better off to get it at your destination. The staff are friendly and efficient, it's just the rates are not great.

Pros: - Easy access (Located in TD Square) Cons: - The Asian lady was hard to understand. I tried to listen better but it is very hard to understand her. She is not nice for sure too. I tried to stay silence till she does her job. - She gave me US dollars that are in bad condition. I took a better look at the notes but she managed to give me a note that part of it is gone. Not sure if the note is acceptable. DO NOT TRUST THEM.

Few weeks ago I took my father to this location to exchange USD. My father is a senior citizen who recently moved to Canada and English is not his first language.While we were at the counter I was doing translation for him.The cashier (I think her name was Sleesha) who was helping us noticed this and said she speaks my dad's language and can talk to him in that.My dad was very happy and she made this whole process very smooth and less stressful for him and she explained everything very nicely.My father had couple of questions initially which he was hesitant to ask due to language barrier but as soon as she was talking to him directly in his native language he was very comfortable and asked everything that he wanted to know.The cashier made sure that my dad was comfortable with the whole process and counted the cash 2-3 times for him.Their exchange rate was good as well...Highly recommended!!

I went to chinook mall this one Asian lady, the first one near the door was very disrespectful. I’m writing this review so her boss knows what she does to people. She kept on asking me unnecessary questions, I was patient with her and I asked her why she was asking me all these questions. She had an attitude the whole time and had no manners when she took me to the first station to the last station. when I told her I didn’t trust the money counting machine and asked her if she could count it for me she said no, she threw the money my direction and said "there’s cameras take your money and go" and then stormed off, this other lady had to go get her to come back and count the money and she seemed very mad while counting the money. She kept giving me dirty looks and she was very unprofessional. Is this how you respect your customers by hiring people like this?

My experience with this company is just horrible. Don't waste your time, get your money exchanged somewhere else. Yes, there are lot of different options in Calgary. I tried to exchange some currency before my next trip in December before the rates go up. I had to provide latest paystubs, bank statements, letter of employment, flight tickets and the reason why am I exchanging it again? After 45 min of reviewing my documents my request was declined only because the reason "I would like to exchange now, before rates go up" is not a valid reason for exchanging money. They make you feel like a criminal. I will never do business with them anymore, even though I work in downtown across the street and travel a lot, and will not recommend their service to anyone else.
