I haven’t done many yoga classes before and I have never felt out of place at Breathe Hot Yoga. Such a welcoming atmosphere with amazing teachers and classes that I always look forward to! Walking out of class you feel rejuvenated and reset, it’s a great practice at the end of a long day. So far my favourite classes have been Foundations and Yang Yin as someone who is a bit newer to Yoga. I would recommend any of their locations to new or experienced Yogi’s!

The studio itself is always clean, warm, and inviting, creating the ideal environment for hot yoga. The instructors are incredible—each one brings a unique energy to the class, offering clear guidance while also encouraging personal growth and mindfulness. I always leave feeling rejuvenated and centered. Whether you’re new to yoga or a seasoned practitioner, I highly recommend giving Breathe Hot Yoga a try!

This is my first legit hot yoga studio I’ve ever joined and I love it. The atmosphere of all 3 locations are consistent. Facilities clean, calming. I have yet to try all classes but so far love them. Specifically the foundations class if you are just starting out like me. Many of all levels, but still able to take it slow and controlled.

The instructors are knowledgeable, supportive, and great at guiding all levels. There’s a great mix of classes, and the community is so friendly and encouraging. Breathe Hot Yoga is such an amazing place. Everyone is so welcoming and always greets you with a smile! My sister and I have been doing the restorative class on Wednesday’s every once in a while when we are feeling like we need to release some emotion and just feel grounded. We lost our brother a year and a half ago and that’s when we first started these classes. We always feel refreshed and connected with him after we do these classes! Highly recommend Breathe Hot Yoga McKenzie ❤️

Breathe Studios are a welcoming space – fabulous energy – inclusive and congenial. I love the multiple styles of yoga offered. All staff ask you before approaching – whether that is healing touch or cooling lemongrass cloth. The instructors are fantastic – providing options and prompted guidance. Community and location and schedule are the three key criteria for me with a yoga studio and Breathe offers that 5/5 star. Namaste.

I signed up for the $70 new member one-month unlimited pass and it’s been totally worth it! You get access to all three locations, which is amazing — I rotate between Britannia and Avenida depending on my schedule, and both studios are wonderful. A little extra preference for Avenida for the harder flooring in the yoga room. The heat in the rooms is perfect — warm enough to get a great sweat but never overwhelming. Every teacher I’ve practiced with has been fantastic — knowledgeable, welcoming, and great at offering options for all levels. Whether you’re new to yoga or a regular on the mat, you’ll feel right at home here. Highly recommend!

After nearly 20 years of practicing hot yoga at various studios across Calgary, I can confidently say that Meta Hot Yoga is where I’ve finally settled — and that says a lot. The classes here are consistently welcoming, supportive, and thoughtfully led. The instructors are warm and knowledgeable, creating an atmosphere that feels both safe and motivating. While the classes are suitable for all levels, I especially recommend Metta to beginners or older individuals who might be hesitant to try hot yoga. This is a place where you can truly feel taken care of, no matter your experience level.

Love this studio:)

Bring a towel! It’s hot!

It’s been a while since i had a studio that i could call my yogi home and i am happy to say Metta Calgary has filled the void:)

Loads of great teachers that are always happy to serve.

The Metta sequence is varied enough to keep things fresh and I feel fully rinsed out and rejuvenated after every class, in all the right ways.

The fact they have a 6am class is great too.

Definitely recommend.

I’ve taken four Core classes at Breathe Yoga and can confidently say it’s been a transformative experience. The classes are definitely challenging – you’ll feel your muscles working from start to finish – but the results speak for themselves. After each session, I walk out feeling stronger, more centred, and energized.

The instructors do a great job balancing intensity with encouragement, making the class accessible while still pushing you to improve. It’s the kind of workout where you feel the burn, but also feel better – physically and mentally – when it’s over. Highly recommend for anyone looking to build strength, improve posture, and leave class feeling amazing.

I pushed myself too hard in class and I really wanted to thank the staff for helping me cool down. They also called and checked in on me afterwards to see if I was okay. I love this studio, especially the staff. I will always come back and tell more friends about it!! Amanda’s class was amazing, we really appreciated the thought and care they have towards their customers. It was a rough week for me and they made it pleasant and worthwhile for us. Thank you! I’ve been practicing at Breathe Hot Yoga for about 3 months now and I’m hooked! The studio is always clean, the front desk staff are so welcoming, and every class I’ve taken has been a great experience. All the teachers are fantastic — special shoutout to my favorites: Lana May, Sara Gerow, Chris Rurka, Angie Lo… but honestly, every instructor brings something great to the mat. I also love that your membership gives you access to all three locations so you can mix things up and find your favorite classes. Highly recommend Breathe if you’re looking for a great studio with good vibes and strong instruction!

I received a gift card for Breathe Hot Yoga and have enjoyed trying out the studio so far. I prefer the 6am classes when it isn’t as busy so there is more room in the studio. One downside is that the change rooms are not always clean and have a lot of hair on the floor and benches. The staff are always very friendly and super helpful! The studio has nice squishy floors and a relaxing ambience.

This is the second yoga studio which I’ve been privileged to attend. I’ve attended three sessions so far using the intro pass which I bought. I do like the proximity to where I live plus it’s very much a yoga studio and has a warm, welcoming and peaceful ambience. The instructors have been excellent so far. I liked the pace, the encouragement and the practice. Very skilled. Only suggestion would be to have a tea station as the previous one had one that I just loved and also a meditation fountain. Other than that the men’s changeroom is excellent with ample room and I like the hooks to hang your clothes plus the showers look clean and stocked with soap and I appreciate the towels. Haven’t taken a hot yoga yet so haven’t had a chance to use them.

Kristin is the best yoga instructor I have ever experienced. The music created the perfect environment and experience in addition to the breathwork during the class. I did the Sunday at 9:30am. Best in Calgary and not super speedy to follow where it feels overwhelming. Everyone needs to try.

It’s so nice to feel a part of something, and practice with instructors and fellow yogis who genuinely care and cultivate spiritual wellness as much as the fitness aspect of yoga (if not more). I always feel safe there; whatever I show up with on my mat, I feel more connected and life feels brighter when I’m leaving. The community at Yoga Passage is unparalleled!

After moving back to Calgary, I was looking for a down to earth yoga studio, where students would be encouraged to see the class as an opportunity to practice listening and dialoguing with one’s own body, with the teacher as more of a guide.
I was looking for gentle classes to get back into a more physical practice of yoga, having been practicing only restorative yoga at home.
I can wholeheartedly recommend the Friday Gentle flow and restorative class, and the yin classes, for anyone like me who is middle aged and needing a gentle introduction or reintroduction.
Another thing I like about yoga here, is that my fellow students range in age from 20s to 60s, men and women, and it’s very relaxed, no one trying to impress anyone.
There’s a good size parking lot as well, and a nice selection of props and such if you need anything.

I’ve tried many different yoga studios over the years, but none compare to Breath Hot Yoga. I’ve been a member for over three years now, and I truly love and enjoy every moment I spend here. The variety of classes offered allows you to find exactly what you need, whether you’re looking for something challenging or restorative.
The instructors are all highly skilled, and the quality of every class is consistently excellent. It’s clear that they care about both the practice and their students. Booking classes through the app is super easy, and there’s plenty of parking, which makes the whole experience even more convenient.
One of the things I appreciate most is the flexibility—depending on how I’m feeling each day, I can choose a class that suits my needs. Whether you’re a beginner or more advanced, there’s something here for everyone.

I’ve been optimistically but cautiously working through an injury, and don’t always get to do the things I want. I generally attend the traditional/26&2 class, as I find it challenging, but also rewarding and healing. I’ve seen a handful of instructors throughout my Traditional journey, and they’ve all been fantastic, but Julie has been a standout instructor. She commands the room, she hawk eyes all of your little adjustments, and I enjoy the way she expresses her encouragements to the class. It’s probably one of the hottest studios that I’ve ever attended, which I do love. The front desk staff seems kind and friendly, my interactions are basically limited to saying my name and receiving a ‘have a good class’, but they’ve always seemed great to the people they talk to.

If you’re particular about a spot in the studio, show up earlier to class. I always kick myself for showing up 5 minutes early and having limited choices in where I lay my mat, but that is entirely my own doing.

Great studio, lots of classes, and a good variety of classes. Definitely worth checking out!

I’ve been doing drop in classes with Breathe for over a year now and have never had a bad experience! I’ve been to both Avenida and Britannia locations and both are great. Classes always start on time and the instructors and receptionist are always extremely friendly. Would highly recommend the $15 6am or 6:30pm classes if you’re a beginner and wanting to try it out. The environment is always very welcoming.

I was nervous trying hot yoga for the first time but so far all my experiences at the Avenida location have been great and I am always looking forward to attending each class! Really enjoyed the experience from the first time I walked in. The location is great and not too busy, easy parking and the atmosphere from the front door all the way into the change rooms and studio is lovely. Feels like a nice curated experience down to the hand towels and soaps.

Love this studio! Everyone makes you feel so welcome and like a family. Studio is always clean and the assortment of classes for all levels is great as well. Particularly love Ale’s classes. She brings such a great energy and care for everyone that attends her classes. She is so present and makes such effort in greeting and getting to know everyone that attends her classes.

The tea at the end of a class is a nice treat too!

This Studio has become like a home to me where I can be in a clean, comfortable and healing environment to practice Yoga and be myself. Studio is well kept and pass is most affordable compared to other yoga studios. A great place to be and practice with friendly instructors, desk staff and some members, others not so friendly, polite or kind in how they smile, say hi or wave. It is like the majority of people from the public just come for the practice and forget how to be kind, polite and show a smile or acknowledgement of others in a friendly manner which the world needs more of.

Beautiful space and studio! I’ve been to this one and the Mission location and they’re both lovely. My favourite classes have been Claire’s karma classes perfect vibe.

Wasn’t able to go to their class as no parking was available anywhere nearby. Ended up circling around for 10+ mins. When I called, they said the 4pm class was always busy so maybe different times would be better. Regardless, I won’t be going here in the future. Make sure you plan to arrive 15-20 mins early.

I usually go to the Mission location, but it was really nice to try this location. Had a great class, balanced with challenge and relaxation. The studio is clean and relaxing. They provide tea as well. I personally prefer non heated classes, so wish there was more of that here. Also the classes when they are full are a bit cramped, wish they would limit to a smaller class size. Overall I still love going to Santosha!

Jordan was an amazing instructor. Upon arrival I was greeted by welcoming staff members. Space was clean with fresh purified water available. Soft music playing, casual calm ambient lighting. Reminded me of a Costa Rican Retreat Centre!!! Will definitely return!!

I am loving my Gentle Yoga 60+ ‍♀️ class. Every week we are focusing on new areas and using great props to enhance our postures. Our instructor Anne is wonderful giving great coaching and context for every movement and the importance of movement, no matter how big or small.
Committing to a class is the best way for me to achieve all the benefits… the stretch, the meditation and the joy of being with a group all on the same path. Plus follow-up instructions and options to join virtually and redo the class all week at home.
Yoga MCC is very well run with excellent staff and welcoming facilities (both locations). This is the beginning of a wonderful journey

I went only to the Bowness location as this was most convenient to me. This friendly studio is very clean and the teachers are knowledgeable. I came to this studio because they offered several different yin/restorative/meditative classes. I did the two week trial membership, tried 7 classes and enjoyed them all. I will continue taking classes at this studio.

I have attended several Critical Alignment Classes now as well as some workshops! I love the atmosphere at the Studio, both in Marda Loop and Bowness. Everyone is so welcoming on arrival and the instructors themselves are amazing! Friendly, extremely helpful and knowledgeable when guiding the attendees through the movements. They always add extra information to help us understand better and give very helpful background information.

I recently tried a yoga class at YogaMcc Bowness, and had a great experience. I was warmly greeted, given a lovely tour of the facility, followed by a fantastic Yin yoga class. I revived the first class free, followed by a great deal for 2 weeks unlimited yoga which I was able to access both in person and online. There are so many classes available, and the one day I couldn’t make it in person, I was able to have it switched to online so I didn’t miss out.

I’ve been loving my time at Soul Hot Yoga! The studio has a calming feeling as soon as you walk into the doors. All the staff are very welcoming and every instructor brings something special to their teaching. They have all the equipment you need for each class, showers, and large change room. Extra Bonus, are the cold Lemon Grass scented towels that they hand at the end of each class. I always leave feeling stronger, more grounded, and totally refreshed. It’s become my favourite part of the day!

I recently moved to Soul Hot Yoga from Breathe hot yoga as I was searching for smaller class size and a friendly atmosphere- I’m so glad I made the leap. It’s a much different vibe of which I like as you have space to actually move, I receive proper teaching, and overall it feels just more of a «home» vibe. Also, they have a great hot yoga workout class. Can’t wait to try the others!

Wow — I just noticed my 3-star review was removed. It’s disappointing that the owner couldn’t accept constructive feedback. I believe it’s fair for other customers to have a full picture.

The studio is beautifully decorated and very clean, which I appreciated. However, in my opinion, the instructors always talked too much during class and seemed to lack experience as oftentimes they were unable to perform the poses. As an intermediate yoga student, I found the classes to be neither relaxing nor engaging.

Catalog of Services Offered by Yoga Studios in Calgary

    Hatha Yoga Classes

Many yoga studios in Calgary offer Hatha yoga classes, which focus on foundational poses, breathing techniques (pranayama), and relaxation. These classes are often suitable for beginners and offer a balance of physical and mental conditioning.

    Vinyasa Flow Yoga

For a more dynamic experience, studios frequently provide Vinyasa flow yoga classes. This style links poses together in a sequence, often synchronized with the breath. It builds strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular endurance.

    Restorative Yoga Sessions

Yoga studios in Calgary often feature restorative yoga sessions, which utilize props like blankets, bolsters, and blocks to support the body in passive poses. These sessions promote deep relaxation, stress reduction, and recovery.

    Yin Yoga Practices

Many studios offer Yin yoga practices, a slower-paced style that focuses on holding poses for longer periods. It targets the deep connective tissues (fascia) of the body, enhancing flexibility and joint mobility.

    Prenatal and Postnatal Yoga

Several studios specialize in prenatal and postnatal yoga classes. These classes are adapted for the unique physical and emotional needs of pregnant and postpartum women, promoting strength, balance, and relaxation during these transformative periods.

    Hot Yoga (Bikram/Hot Flow)

For a challenging and detoxifying experience, yoga studios in Calgary commonly offer hot yoga classes, such as Bikram or hot flow. Practiced in a heated room, these classes can increase flexibility, improve circulation, and promote sweating.

    Yoga Nidra Meditation

Some studios offer Yoga Nidra meditation sessions, a guided meditation practice that induces deep relaxation. It's often described as a "yogic sleep" that helps reduce stress, improve sleep quality, and cultivate inner peace.

    Private Yoga Instruction

Numerous studios provide private yoga instruction, tailored to individual needs and goals. These one-on-one sessions allow for personalized attention, modifications, and deeper exploration of yoga principles.

Frequently Asked Questions about Yoga Studios in Calgary

What types of yoga classes are commonly offered in Calgary studios?

Calgary yoga studios generally offer a diverse range of classes catering to various skill levels and preferences. You're likely to find options like Hatha yoga (the foundational practice), Vinyasa flow (a more dynamic style linking breath to movement), Ashtanga yoga (a rigorous and sequential practice), Yin yoga (a slow-paced style focused on deep tissue release), Restorative yoga (a deeply relaxing practice using props), and Hot yoga (practiced in a heated room). It's a good idea to research the specific offerings of each studio.

How much do yoga classes typically cost in Calgary?

The cost of yoga classes can vary significantly depending on the studio, class type, and commitment level. Drop-in rates often range from $15 to $30, while monthly memberships can cost between $75 and $200+. Many studios offer introductory specials or packages for new students, providing a more affordable way to try out different classes. Look for promotions and student discounts.

What should I expect from my first yoga class?

For your first class, arrive a little early to register and familiarize yourself with the studio. Bring a yoga mat (though some studios offer rentals), a towel, and water. Listen to your body, and don’t push yourself beyond your comfort zone. Instructors often provide modifications for different levels, so don’t hesitate to ask for assistance. Remember everyone started somewhere – it’s about the journey, not perfection.

Do I need to be flexible to start yoga?

Absolutely not! The beauty of yoga is that it improves flexibility over time. You don't need to be flexible to begin; yoga is a practice that helps you become more flexible. Every individual's starting point is unique, and instructors will guide you toward safe and effective poses suitable for your current capabilities. Focus on proper alignment rather than forcing your body into shapes.

What should I wear to a yoga class?

Comfortable, breathable clothing that allows for a full range of motion is ideal. Think leggings, shorts, tank tops, or t-shirts. Avoid anything too restrictive or revealing. Bare feet are generally acceptable, but you can wear yoga socks if you prefer. The emphasis is on feeling comfortable and able to move freely during the practice.

Are there yoga studios that cater to specific populations (e.g., seniors, pregnant women)?

Yes, many Calgary studios offer specialized classes tailored to specific populations. You can find classes for prenatal yoga, senior yoga, kids yoga, and classes adapted for individuals with physical limitations. It's essential to inquire about the instructor’s experience and qualifications for these specialized classes.

What's the difference between a drop-in class and a membership?

A drop-in class allows you to attend a single class without a long-term commitment. This is a great option if you’re traveling or want to try out different studios before committing. A membership typically offers unlimited or a set number of classes per month at a discounted rate. Consider the frequency of your practice when deciding which option is best.

What are the benefits of attending regular yoga classes?

Regular yoga practice offers a wealth of benefits, both physically and mentally. Physically, it can improve flexibility, strength, balance, and posture. Mentally, it can reduce stress, anxiety, and improve mood. Consistent practice can also enhance body awareness and promote a sense of overall well-being.

How can I find reviews and ratings of yoga studios in Calgary?

Several online platforms can help you research and compare yoga studios in Calgary. Check websites like Google Reviews, Yelp, and ClassPass to read reviews from other students. These platforms often provide ratings and insights into the studio's atmosphere, instructors, and class quality. Always consider multiple reviews before forming an opinion.

What should I do if I experience pain during a yoga class?

If you experience pain during a yoga class, stop immediately and inform the instructor. It’s crucial to listen to your body and avoid pushing through pain, as this can lead to injury. Instructors are trained to offer modifications and adjustments to ensure safe practice. Don’t hesitate to communicate any discomfort or limitations.
