I have worked with Andrew and Henriette on my shoulder pain. They are both very amazing. Andrew is able to find the smallest muscles tightness. His needling technique is very mature. They don’t leave any bruises but yet, very effective. I felt instantly better the next day. Henriette is very good with cupping and any massages she does. Together, they alleviate my shoulder pain a lot. I would highly recommend them if you’re considering physio.

Daniel Ly is the best physiotherapist I’ve been to in the City! He really took the time to get to know me, my problems, and my goals.

I’ve never had such a thorough physiotherapist who truly cared about my physical health. He is extremely knowledgable and took the time to explain the treatments and make sure I understood the expected outcomes. His programs are detailed and I knew what to prioritize the moment I left the session.

It’s only been a week since my first visit but I am already seeing results. I would recommend Daniel to anyone that is looking to take care of their physical health and take their goals to the next level.

I’ve been seeing Anthony Sousa for nearly two years following two motor vehicle accidents, and I can say without a doubt that he is the BEST physiotherapist you could ever ask for. Anthony doesn’t just treat you—he transforms your recovery.

His commitment to his clients goes above and beyond anything I’ve experienced. While most physiotherapists split their focus between multiple clients, Anthony gives you his full attention every single session, ensuring your treatment is entirely personalized to your specific needs. His approach isn’t just professional; it’s deeply dedicated and caring.

The progress I’ve made under his care has been nothing short of life-changing, and I didn’t hesitate to bring my mum to him after her own accident. I knew she would be in the best hands.

Anthony’s expertise, compassion, and relentless drive to help his clients heal are unmatched. If you want a physiotherapist who is not only skilled but deeply invested in your well-being and recovery, Anthony Sousa is the ONLY choice. I cannot recommend him highly enough.

If I could give them 6 stars I would!

Dr. Nicole Laird was incredible and helped me through a pinched nerve that made my hand and thumb go numb. She helped me come up with a recovery schedule that was speedy and solid, where after each session (and week of exercises) I came back with more feeling. Now, I’ve got full feeling back in my hand as well as thumb after a month and a bit.

I can’t recommend Dr. Laird enough! Not only did she help me regain feeling and get back to my work, but she also helped me release my voice through releasing some tension in my neck I didn’t know I had. She went above and beyond to research and help my specific issues and bring me relief and more knowledge.

The amenities are professional and welcoming, and the front desk staff are great as well. A solid team – I even had a dizziness spell one session, and Dr. Laird had an apple for me to regain my blood sugar. 11/10 service!

I was referred to Ascent Health & Sport Therapy and more specifically to Dr. Scott Fisher to treat a chronic issue. First time going to a chiropractor – I was a bit nervous but it was a great experience overall. Dr. Fisher was very friendly and professional. He conducted a thorough assessment and answered my questions along the way. Once treatment started, he made sure to explain what he was doing so I would be at ease. Further, the receptionist was also great and helped me with my billing questions (sorry I didn’t get her name). Looking forward to continuing my rehab here in the future!

Chad Piper was knowledgeable, empathetic, and truly listened to my concerns. He took the time to explain every detail of my rehab plan and made me feel hopeful about my recovery journey, which is a great relief. I highly recommend Chad Piper at Ascent Health for anyone in need of physiotherapy! Both my teenage son and I have seen him, and from our very first appointments, Chad’s relatable personality put us at ease. His passion for sports shines through in his approach, making therapy not just effective but also enjoyable for both of us. He has a fantastic rapport with kids, which is a huge plus for families seeking care. Chad is ultra-respectful, always taking the time to listen to our concerns and tailor the treatment accordingly. With his expertise and dedication, we’ve both seen great improvements in our recovery. If you’re looking for an excellent physiotherapist, Chad is the one to see!

If you’re in Calgary and need a physio who’s experienced, easy to work with, and gets real results, I’d highly recommend Chad Piper at Ascent Health.

I went in for lingering knee pain and honestly couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Chad did a proper assessment, explained what was going on without overcomplicating it, and gave me a treatment plan that actually felt doable. You can tell he works with a lot of athletes—he focused on the root of the issue and built a plan around my goals, not just a one-size-fits-all fix.

Chad’s easy to talk to, checked in throughout, and adjusted things as I started making progress. I noticed a real difference and feel way more confident getting back to the activities I enjoy.

I really enjoyed Dylan the therapist. I admittedly missed a few appointments over a period of time. Each time I paid a progressively steeper fee for missing. I seem to remember the first one being 50, the next one was 99 or 100. The last time the receptionist mentioned the fee would be 135 for missing the appointment.
I appreciate time is worth money. My sessions were only 15-20 minutes. A static charge would have had a bit more integrity. And 135 for 20 minutes was more than a bit much.
It feels a little like a conveyor belt and is quite impersonal. Dylan is wonderful but it felt like initially the service was focused and the sessions were at least 30 minutes. Then it just kept feeling faster and faster.
The reason for my one star is that progressively charging your clients more money for a missed appointment t felt a bit like price gouging.
Impersonal, too pricey. Beware before committing.

Nicole has been an absolute godsend on my pelvic floor physio journey. She’s incredibly warm, friendly, professional, and knowledgeable.

I first saw Nicole for coccyx pain, and thanks to her guidance, I was able to fully rehabilitate within a few weeks.

When I became pregnant, I continued seeing Nicole every couple of weeks, and I truly believe her expertise made my pregnancy not just manageable, but surprisingly comfortable. By following her exercise plans, I avoided the typical back, hip, and round ligament pain many experience during pregnancy.

One day during my pregnancy, I experienced severe back pain and went to the ER, but the physicians couldn’t determine the cause. I saw Nicole the next day, and she quickly identified it as SI joint pain. She provided targeted solutions that relieved the pain within two days. By following her advice to strengthen the area, the pain never returned—despite doctors warning it could persist throughout pregnancy and even into the postpartum period.

I can’t recommend Nicole highly enough to anyone seeking pelvic floor physiotherapy, and especially urge expecting mothers to see her!

I had an excellent experience with Nicole Endicott, the Pelvic Health Physiotherapist. She was kind and thorough in her assessment. She took the time to ask detailed questions to understand the issues I was experiencing, and she was knowledgeable in answering my many questions. I felt that she truly cared about helping me.

While an internal pelvic assessment may seem daunting, Nicole was completely professional and guided me through the process which made me feel much more comfortable. Her approach put me at ease and I appreciated how she explained everything along the way.

I’m looking forward to following the treatment plan she has created for me and coming back to review my progress in the future.

After my ACL injury on a ski trip, I was in a really tough place both physically and mentally. I had so many questions about my options and the healing process, and I honestly felt lost. I saw Dylan about two weeks after the injury, and after the first session, everything changed. He took his time to answer every single question I had and helped rebuild my confidence in my body. I ended up getting surgery about four months later, and thanks to Dylan, the whole journey felt a lot easier and a lot less overwhelming. He genuinely cares about his patients and always goes the extra mile. Thank you, Dylan!

This clinic really cares for their patients. Lilac, my physiotherapist, specializes in concussions. She genuinely cares, is friendly, listens, and has years of experience. With each session there is progress with my concussion. I’ve seen Joyce for acupuncture, she’s kind, caring and very informative (she talks you through the process, super helpful). To the team at Beddington Nose Creek Physio,

I just wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone at the clinic. The receptionists are absolutely wonderful — so warm and accommodating, which made every visit feel welcoming.

A special thank you goes to Blair and Dr. Alex. The improvement I’ve experienced in my neck, upper back, and shoulder has been incredible. You’ve helped lift the fog of dizziness and taken away those constant headaches — I can’t thank you enough.

Oh! And I can’t forget Katie — she was amazing too, even if she’s a bit tricky to book.

I’m truly grateful for all the care, support, and expertise. Looking forward to seeing you all again after my knee surgery!

I started to see Nose Creek in 2024. My back pain & balance as well as vision was horrible, especially since I had a concussion. All from a motor vehicle accident. They took me under their wing and it took a bit, but I started to see success! This actually gave me hope and I knew I was in the right place. Blair and his team are great and work as a well oiled machine. They were very supportive when I had my bad days, and boy sometimes they were plenty at the beginning. They cheered me on when I was having my good days. They were very easy to talk to when I had any concerns or questions. It really did change how I look at physiotherapy for rehabilitation. Thanks team! I will never forget you all, and I will most certainly be back. Hope you all enjoyed your smile cookies 🙂

I have been dealing with Blair for over 3-4 months now, and he is amazing to deal with. I’ve seen a huge improvement to my back, shoulders and muscles. He is very knowledgeable, and compassionate. I started going to him after a motor vehicle accident( rear ended). Five start rating and highly highly recommended. Great job Blair, and I look forward to continuing to work with you.

She’s amazing at what she does. I would also like to say all the staff in the front are highly accommodating and super friendly, a great team put together.

I recently started going to Nose Creek Physio to see Dr. Alexandra Toutant and she is absolutely fantastic! It’s so refreshing to be treated by a chiropractor who is as knowledgeable and compassionate as she is. She is thorough, diligent, and has a keen eye for assessment. My relief is usually immediate and the results have been very long-lasting. If you’re looking for an exceptional chiropractor, Dr. Toutant is the one for you!

My massage(s) with Katie have been great. At least 12 massages in the last year and no complaints, only kudos. My last massage in January 2025 is an excellent example of the professional, with client history, service Katie provides. She noticed I was walking with a slight limp and asked if I had changed my routine. I had just switched jobs to one with a lot of walking on concrete. The result was a slight change from a maintenance massage to primarily leg work.

A good clinic starts with the reception. And this is a good clinic! Individual approach, combination of therapies, exercises, sensitivity, and attention – that’s what you get when you come here. This is the best recipe for recovery. I am infinitely grateful to Grace for her work. In a short period of time, thanks to Grace’s individual approach to recovery, I almost completely restored my elbow.
I highly recommend Brentwood physio and, of course, Grace as the best specialist.
Thanks for your job

As an active individual, I’ve had my fair share of injuries, and the physiotherapists at this clinic have always been fantastic. I’ve had the fortune of being treated by Grace and Parmeet, both of whom are extremely knowledgeable and have detective-like skills in pinpointing the root cause of issues and recommending effective treatments. I highly recommend this clinic!

Decided to go here after reading rave reviews, to seek treatment for vestibular issues and vertigo. I was feeling just horrible and the medications I was on just weren’t fixing the problems.I have been working with Brenda for about 4 weeks now and she has helped me so much. Just a real professional and efficient physio; upbeat and knows her stuff that’s for sure. She helped me tremendously after the first session which was a huge relief. Thank goodness! Really friendly staff too and easy to get to location.

I went to this clinic at the end of last year because of my serious back pain. Therapist Jo is really professional by doing lots of tests checking which part of my body went wrong. She has been cheerful and knowledgeable all the time. Other than doing treatment, she taught me what to do daily to keep my posture correct in order to avoid the same issue happens again. Thanks, Jo. Btw, everyone including the reception ladies and gentlemen in the clinic are so kind and helpful.

Over the past few months, I’ve had the pleasure of seeing Parmeet and can’t express enough how impressed I am with the care I received from her at Brentwood Physio. I had already heard great things from a family member which is why I chose Brentwood Physio and from the moment I walked in, the team there created a welcoming and comfortable environment that put me at ease. What stood out most was the personal approach that Parmeet took to my treatment but also just my overall wellbeing. Instead of following a generic plan, Parmeet took the time to thoroughly understand my specific needs, addressing not only my injury but also my lifestyle, goals, and any barriers I might face as a new mother.

Throughout the sessions, she was incredibly attentive and communicative, making sure I fully understood the mechanics of each exercise and how they would help my recovery. I never felt rushed, and Parmeet always encouraged me to ask questions and share my concerns, which made me feel truly cared for.

The results speak for themselves—I noticed a significant improvement very quickly and an outcome far beyond what I expected. It’s clear that Parmeet genuinely cares about the well-being of her patients, and her expertise and attention to detail is second to none.

If you’re looking for a physiotherapist who not only knows their stuff but also treats you as an individual, I wholeheartedly recommend Parmeet at Brentwood Physio. Thank you for the exceptional care!

In addition to the exceptional care I received from Parmeet, I also want to highlight the warm and welcoming receptionist, Debbie, as well as the friendly atmosphere the other receptionists create. Debbie has an upbeat personality and adds a personal touch that makes the waiting area even more pleasant. It’s rare to find a practice where every detail is attended to so thoughtfully, and reception’s approach truly set the tone for each visit.

I’ve been seeing Grace on a regular basis for the past few weeks after a pinched nerve causing pain and limited mobility to my left arm, shoulders and hands.
When booking my first appointment, Debbie was fantastic and was able to move around an appointment to fit me in my preferred date and time.

Grace was very attentive, listening and capturing notes during my initial assessment. She was thorough, thoughtful and knowledgeable in her assessment.
Her treatments have proven successful with steady progress. Grace has been compassionate, authentic, and effective since. She’s passionate about getting to the root cause of issues, not just alleviating symptoms. She cares about clients comfort, and wants to ensure results are sustained and not temporary.

I’m very happy to have found Grace and Brentwood Physio! And would highly recommend to anyone looking for physio treatment.

Matt was recommended to me by a couple of people who spoke very highly of him. I have seen a number of physiotherapists in my 68 years, and I can very easily say that Matt is one of the finest I have had the pleasure of being treated by! He has an amazing understanding of physiology, biomechanics, and movement science. He took the time to very concisely and simply explain the root causes of my issues, and then explained how he was going to go about treating me. I felt comfortable with Matt from our initial greeting. Matt has a very calm and confident demeanour. The assessment was very thorough and concise, and in our first session, he was able to provide me with a noticeable reduction in discomfort.

He provided me with a few exercises that I could perform between visits, and followed up with an email containing very detailed instructions and a video on how to properly perform them.

All in all it was a real pleasure to have been treated by Matt! I would readily recommend Matt to anyone who is in need of physiotherapy treatment.

Maximum Potential is a great physio clinic. The front desk staff are patient, helpful, and always pleasant to talk to (special thanks to Steph!). I and my family have been in to see Matt over the years for different issues and he is always knowledgeable, thoughtful, and supportive. Matt has 2 goals each time he takes you on a patient – to help you deal with the discomfort in the moment and to help you make changes in your every day life so it doesn’t happen again. While he obviously appreciates your business, his goal is ultimately NOT to see you again! Matt ensures any exercises or treatments are reasonable and easy to fit into your daily routine. I highly recommend Matt and Maximum Potential.

Matt was friendly, through and scientific, explaining why my elbow pain most likely originates in my neck. He massaged my neck, shoulder and tricep before showing me some ways to massage at home with a lacrosse ball. I especially like that he understands cross country skiing, as he used to race competitively. He helped me understand how adjusting my chin position when double poling can help me decrease my elbow pain. Thank you, Matt!

saw the ad, i thought i will give it a try, first assessment, was i guess okay,. Not impress with the place, i was hoping there’s a private room and not curtains, but i let it slide,. I did another assessment and this time, the receptionist told me that there was a problem with insurance, and I needed to pay 74$. She explained an error, so i paid out of my pocket because she was adamant i have to pay and not wait for my insurance as it did say an error. The claimed actually went through and there was no problem,. They called me the following day, they took my email for an etransfer, but until this moment, I am still awaiting the refund..They are too quick to charge costumers but too slow for a refund.! There was a telus network error as per the receptionist but did not even give an option of either: do you want to pay out of your own pocket or would you like us to call you tomorrow? I get that you’re running a business but what was the point of «direct billing» ? They wanted me to book an appointment as «we fully booked so easily» but with this type of experience, I am not recommending this place to my friends or family. For a first time customer like me, I am not impress at all.!

The physiotherapist assistant who treated me was friendly and did a good job.

I was surprised that an assistant handled the session instead of the physiotherapist, as I wasn’t expecting that. However, she made sure I was comfortable and minimized any discomfort during the treatment. We went through several movements that helped with my pain, and she also gave me useful stretching tips to do at home.

One downside was that her hands had a strong food smell, which lingered on my skin and clothes after the session. I had to shower as soon as I got home to get rid of the scent.

I also didn’t like that the treatment areas were only separated by curtains—I could hear everything from the next cubicle.

Lastly, I never received a receipt, either by email or in print. My insurance covered the cost, but I still expected one.

    Manual Therapy Techniques

A cornerstone of many physical therapy programs involves manual therapy techniques. This encompasses skilled hands-on methods like joint mobilization, soft tissue mobilization, and trigger point therapy to address musculoskeletal dysfunction and pain. These techniques are often utilized to restore joint range of motion and reduce muscle tension.

    Therapeutic Exercise Programs

Physical therapists develop therapeutic exercise programs tailored to individual needs and goals. Exercises are carefully prescribed and progressed to ensure optimal results.

Neuromuscular rehabilitation focuses on restoring function after neurological events such as stroke or spinal cord injury. Therapists employ specialized techniques to improve muscle strength, coordination, and balance, helping patients regain independence and quality of life. This often involves re-training movement patterns.

    Pain Management Strategies

Physical therapists are trained to implement pain management strategies. These can include modalities like heat, ice, electrical stimulation, and patient education on self-management techniques. The aim is to reduce pain, improve function, and enhance the patient’s overall well-being.

Frequently Asked Questions about Physical Therapists in Calgary

What exactly does a physical therapist do?

Physical therapists, or physiotherapists, are healthcare professionals who help people affected by injury, illness, or disability. They work to improve movement and function, reduce pain, restore physical fitness, and prevent future injuries. Their interventions include exercises, manual therapy, education, and assistive devices.

What types of conditions do physical therapists treat in Calgary?

Physical therapists in Calgary treat a wide range of conditions, including sports injuries (like sprains, strains, and fractures), back pain, neck pain, post-surgical rehabilitation, neurological conditions (such as stroke and multiple sclerosis), cardiopulmonary conditions, and pediatric conditions. They tailor their treatment plans to address the specific needs of each individual.

How do I find a registered physical therapist in Calgary?

It's crucial to find a registered physical therapist. You can search the Alberta College of Registered Physiotherapists (ACRP) website to verify credentials and locate therapists in Calgary. Many online directories also list physical therapists, but confirming registration through the ACRP ensures they meet professional standards.

What is the difference between a physical therapist and a physiotherapy assistant?

A physical therapist is a regulated healthcare professional who holds a university degree and is registered with the ACRP. A physiotherapy assistant works under the direct supervision of a physical therapist and assists with treatment plans. Assistants do not perform assessments or develop treatment plans independently; they implement the plans developed by the therapist.

Do I need a referral to see a physical therapist in Calgary?

In Alberta, you generally do not require a referral from a physician to see a physical therapist, allowing direct access to care. However, depending on your insurance plan, a referral may be necessary for coverage. Always verify your insurance requirements before commencing treatment.

What should I expect during my first physical therapy appointment?

Your first appointment will involve a thorough assessment by the physical therapist. This typically includes a detailed history of your condition, a physical examination to assess your range of motion, strength, posture, and movement patterns, and a discussion of your goals for treatment. The therapist will then explain their findings and develop a personalized treatment plan.

How long does physical therapy treatment typically last?

The duration of treatment varies depending on the condition and individual progress. Some individuals may experience significant improvement after a few sessions, while others may require several weeks or months of ongoing therapy. Consistent attendance and adherence to the therapist's instructions are important for optimal results.

What types of exercises are used in physical therapy?

Physical therapists utilize a wide range of therapeutic exercises, including stretching, strengthening exercises, balance training, and core stabilization exercises. They carefully select exercises based on the individual's condition and goals, ensuring they are appropriate and effective for restoring function.

What are the costs associated with physical therapy in Calgary?

The cost of physical therapy can vary depending on the clinic, the therapist’s experience, and the type of treatment provided. Many insurance plans offer partial or full coverage for physical therapy services. It's advisable to inquire about fees and payment options during the initial consultation.

Can physical therapy help with chronic pain?

Yes, physical therapy can be an effective approach for managing chronic pain. Physical therapists use various techniques, such as manual therapy, exercise, and pain education, to help individuals reduce pain, improve function, and enhance their overall quality of life. It’s often a long-term strategy involving ongoing management and adaptation.
