The Sam Centre was so fun and was the perfect snowy day activity. Entry for two adults, two seniors and two kids was under $50 and worth the value in my opinion.
They have a great interactive area for the kids to play games, barrel race stick ponies and design characters for a virtual Stampede parade. Their collection of Stampede memorabilia is excellent. Very cool to see things dating back to the early 1900’s. The Stampede Sensations exhibit was a very neat multi sensory display highlighting individuals who take part in creating the greatest outdoor show on earth.
So much to see and do and worth the adventure with the family.
We also stopped in at the adjoining Maisie Eatery for some scrumptious treats afterwards… very delicious.

A great place to visit to learn about the history of Stampede! It was really great to see so much of the history and learn more about it. The Stampede Sensations was an amazing experience too. Plenty of activities for kids to take part in, one member of staff was so kind to my daughter but I didn't get their name! Overall, most of the staff were brilliant, but there was an older male staff member there who spoke to my husband instead of me when I was the one asking questions!

I’m an Airbnb host, so I make a point to stay up-to-date and curious about Calgary’s local attractions. Final verdict: a must-do for any visitors or locals curious about the story of the Stampede.
The Sam Centre is the answer to all the inquiries for Stampede-related attractions Calgarians receive from our visiting friends and family when it’s not taking place. It’s well-organized and creatively presented in a beautiful space. They’ve done an incredible job of telling the story of the event and sharing some of the behind the scenes details. Be sure to sit on the floor for the theatre presentation!
Bonus: there’s a fantastic cafe/ restaurant so you can linger and enjoy the space after you’re done.
Volunteers Karen, John, and Brenda were all incredibly helpful and patient with all my questions. Huge shoutout to them. When I mentioned that I was digging around as part of my hosting duties, Karen dropped what she was doing to take me on a tour, which was so kind of her.

Exposition super interessante sur les origines du Stampede. L'expo est aussi adaptée aux enfants et/ou jeunes ados.

We had a charming visit to the Sam Centre including wonderful interactions with the museum volunteers and staff. The facility makes excellent use of a small space, offering a historical look into what brought the Calgary Stampede to life, how it's evolved and grown through the years, and its links to the city and local Indigenous nations. There are two (three, I'll argue) galleries of static and interactive exhibits for different ages, and an immersive theatre presentation that beautifully tugs at your emotions. I hope as the facility develops, they add access resources for other languages or for visually/hearing-impaired folks, and perhaps build a small gift shop.

The SAM Centre in Calgary is an extraordinary treasure trove of history and culture that brilliantly encapsulates the spirit and legacy of the Calgary Stampede.
The museum is a perfect blend of education and entertainment, making it an ideal destination for visitors of all ages. The interactive displays are a particular highlight, offering hands-on experiences that immerse you in the traditions and excitement of the Calgary Stampede. Whether you’re a lifelong resident or a first-time visitor, the SAM Centre provides a deeper understanding and appreciation of the Stampede’s profound impact on Calgary and its community and the local Treaty Seven Nations.
One of the most touching aspects of the SAM Centre is its collection of heartfelt videos in the Norris Family Foundation Theatre. These captivating stories and personal testimonials from participants and spectators alike add a deeply human element to the museum’s narrative. They remind us that the Calgary Stampede is more than just an event; it’s a celebration of community, Indigenous culture, heritage, and the enduring spirit of Calgary.
The SAM Centre is an essential stop for anyone looking to explore Calgary’s rich cultural tapestry. It offers an unforgettable journey through the history of the Calgary Stampede, leaving visitors with a newfound appreciation for this iconic event. Don’t miss the chance to experience this remarkable museum – it’s a true gem in the heart of Calgary!
