Well, this school is the school I go to. Sure, there are some good teachers and staff who actually care about you, but they never consider bullying reports as their top priority. The staff management should train the teachers more about bullying. The only thing they do if you get bullied is say «just ignore them». How the heck do you think I would ignore them if they never leave me alone?
Most of the staff actually care, but the lunch ladies are really mean, except a handful of them. So are the office ladies. Once I hurt myself pretty bad, and I didn’t really consider grammar back then. I asked them for an ice-pack, and they mocked my speech. They even gave me a bag that was full of holes.
So, try to avoid this school as best as you can, and save your kids from this school that gives your kids mental health issues, and low self-esteem(If you are wondering, what I wrote is true, and it comes from me and other students who go to this horrible school).
Edit – I’m back 2-3 years later to say that this school has definitely been downgraded. While yes, academics and stuff are okay, the environment in which this school is operating is an absolute zero. The office staff is getting worse and is not addressing nor doing anything in regards to racist and homophobic remarks being made. To make matters worse, the assistant principal has not conducted themselves in the right way to deal with students being harassed, giving people «slap-on-the-wrist» punishments. Please do not send your children here, as this school will add onto lists upon lists of problems.

Unprofessional Front Office Experience
I recently had an unpleasant experience with a front desk staff member at this school. The Caucasian woman in the office was dismissive and spoke in a rude, condescending tone, making the visit feel unwelcoming. Looks like she just hates her job and had no clue what is going on.
Professionalism and courtesy are especially important in a school setting, and this interaction did not reflect the respectful environment families and students should expect. I hope this issue is addressed to ensure better experiences for future visitors.

This school is great, I’ve been at this school for 3 years, and I’ve been loving it. HOWEVER, Ms. Fan’s substitute teacher who’s been here since mid February of 2025. She is genuinely the worst teacher I’ve had in my entire life. On our tests, she uses the student’s tests as her answer key, and many students, including me have gotten answers wrong on tests, which are correct. She has given several students 1s on their tests because they didn’t show their work, with most of the answers correct. Students have consulted other math teachers in the school, who have consistently said they would have given 2s or 3s on their tests. She also uses AI to mark our tests, which can give our markings some inconsistent marking. A student in grade 9 also had a completely correct answer and steps, and was correct, but she circled a random part of it, which prevented him to get 100% on his test. When he asked her about it, she just shut him down, and said, «I’m the teacher, I’m correct.», which is a ridiculous answer on it’s own, but refused to elaborate. She gives students no class time to work on math worksheets, and spends the entire class either handing out packages to do at home, and then goes over the answers the next day, which many students did not have time to finish it. On many occasions, she has booked computers for us to practice math on, but then only lets us use the tech for 15 minutes or less, because she has to go over yet another package she gave us. On a few occasions, she has also booked 2 computer carts, which totals to around 50 computers in a class of around 27 kids because we were 5 computers short of everyone having one. This has caused many students having issues booking tech for assignments, especially with the PATs using them. Many classmates in her MLA 7 (mandarin language arts gr 7) class have also said that she often tends to start teaching the class about Cantonese idioms, which is not supposed to be taught (THIS IS MANDARIN). She has also told me and other students to «sit properly» because apparently we were being distracting by sitting sideways, slouched, etc. Her class is the one class where I have had a bad experience and am not learning anything. If it weren’t for the 2024-2025 gr 7 curriculum being almost an exact repeat of the 2023-2024 gr 6 curriculum, math would by far be my hardest subject with her teaching. I know that this is not really the school’s fault, as a substitute teacher who can speak mandarin well and teach math are quite hard to find. Overall great school, just 1 bad teacher for 4 months who ruined grade 7 for me.

Saw my old friend Henry post a review about this school. I did go here for the fifth and sixth grade until i moved up to Edmonton. I still remember all the great times I had here. I have lost contact with nearly all of my old friends now that I’m in the ninth grade, and I miss all of them incredibly. Edmonton is fine I suppose, but Calgary, and this school in particular (along with neighbouring Highwood of which I spent elementary schooling there), has given me the most memories. I don’t know if any of my friends still go to Irvine, but I’ll mention them anyhow.

I thought this school was going to be amazing, boy, was I wrong. This school is a complete joke. A student threw a chunk of wood at my sons face, made him bleed and my son had to get 5 stitches. That child was never even suspended!!. The grade 9s bring vapes and sell them to the younger kids and nothing seems to be done about that as my child continued to come home from with them. Hell the grade 9s even brought booze to sschool. One kid told my son he was going to come shoot up my house. Nothing was done. Said I wanted something done about it, school pretty much laughed in my face about it.
There is absolutely zero control at this school, they pick a choose who they punish and if your child struggles with behavior or regulating their emotions, there labeled as a bad child.

this school sucks, teachers, principals and school counselor don’t do anything about problems. they side with the first person that talks to them and then doesn’t listen to the other persons perspective. they avoid other conflicts that the second person is telling them and focusing on what the first person has said. they can’t tell if a person is lying just because they were first to say something about it. they never listen to what the other person says. the first person can be lying and teachers principals and school counselors don’t know because they don’t have brains. all they do is listen to the first person and side with them and agree but never understand the second persons which is very unfair. this school needs to do better before anything worse happens. do better colonel irvine

I live in the neighbourhood and I cannot tell you how many time I’ve seen these kids run out in to the road to chase a ball, walk home alone and throw things at cars, or even just are completely unattended with no supervision. The state of the playground is disgusting with the homeless smoking there at night, the garbage cans filled with dog shit and not emptied or cleaned out, and in general just trash all over the ground. This school needs some serious help. Do better these are small children that you are responsible for.

Like tell me why my child was in trouble for no reason and that woman shoved books in their face, along with yelling at them + forcing them too write a 100 sentence essay on «how to be a good friend» BECAUSE A STUDENT SET THEM UP AND SAID THAT THEY HURT THEM. The main principle is an evil woman as-well let me tell you. Reading the clock? Scolded. The teachers are favouriting the so called «perfect kids». If you have a disorder (anxiety, ed, depression, autism, ocd, adhd, etc) the teacher hates you instantly. They take the «perfect kids» side EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. The hygiene is disturbing (poop on the walls along with pee) etc. Lastly, the students are the most meanest kids ever. Blinked? Smacked. JUST DONT PUT YOUR KIDS HERE.

While the teachers at this school are excellent and truly dedicated, the receptionist—especially the one who handles phone calls—is consistently rude and unprofessional. Her tone is dismissive, and it feels like she has no understanding of how to speak to people respectfully. If dealing with the public is too stressful for her, she may want to reconsider if this is the right job. Honestly, I was extremely worried to send my son to school as it is bit far from Sky view. But I’m truly fortunate that his class teacher is very helpful and supportive in every manner.
Ms. Anderson tries to reach out to him in all aspects and she is very responsive with me also.
As a parent we try to know if our kids are doing well.
My son is enjoying his lessons.
Ms. Anderson really made this more comfortable for him to adopt in new country and class as well.

I mean it’s ok the snacks that the office provides are not very good. I found really bad stuff on the recess ground. Students are always getting into fights the school is not very clean someone in my class found chewing gum on their desk. Some teachers are really strict but otherwise it’s ok at the end of the year we had a very Fun Sports Day! we had freezies, games, and tug of war which was awesome!

My daughter started at this school two years ago. At her last school, she struggled with reading and writing. She would cry and claim illness to get out of going. We tried working with the school to help her. Nothing came from it.
Annie Foote and the staff helped us come up with a plan as soon as she started. She loves her school and her teachers. Where once she was behind a full grade, she’s completely caught up and doing wonderfully. The teachers took the time to figure out how she needed to be taught instead of giving up. I’m excited for my younger child to start next year as I feel confident this school will help them excel!

Its a wonderful and a pretty awesome school, i am new in canada but i am impressed with the education system in the school .To all the people making random hate comments to the teachers i would love to say that teachers in here are comforters and not at all racist ! Meanwhile to the ones talking bout how rude and nasty students in here are,in my opinion the students r not something u should complain about in the feedback box cause the school feedback should be about the staff the interior and education system , and yeah kids r bullies in here !! That is very true but school can advise them to change their attitude but cannot physically force them to do so !! Although it is a 4 cause the drills r always cancelled and being in the volleyball team i would like to have the score board in the gym and the lightning in the gym to get fixed !!!

This school for the opportunities they give to make friends with other people and with that I’ve made over 12 friends this year,definitely way more than elementary school, In addition, all of the teachers are so nice here in 7th grade and they create a supportive environment as well as the kids my age with the class!
The only con is that for halloween or Christmas we don’t dress up we have the option to but we also don’t have any related activities, others then that I definitely recommend this school!

Principles are racist. Horrible teaching and suspend you for no reason. The teachers yell at you but when you raise your voice a little at them they will send you to the office. There are some cool teachers you could have a connection with but most are horrible. Front office is always rude and dont give you enough excercise/Gym. I read some awful reviews about Terry Fox school so I decided to write my views on it. I spent precious three years of my life at Terry Fox from 2016 to 2019. I had a great experience. The teachers and the education both are great there. There are numerous option classes to explore such as Arts, music, drama, fashion, foods, construction, physical education, outdoor activity, etc. Students get opportunities to go on trips. They also have opportunities to play for teams such as badminton, basketball, volleyball and soccer. And also there is a canteen in the school and it’s affordable.
In my perspective, it’s not the school that is bad how other people said actually the students who have spread the false news. I heard people saying wrong things about the students over there but I never saw anything wrong with my own eyes. Also, I am saying all these because neither I nor my friends had experienced any of the things that are written by others in comments.
I would recommend this school because it is really good and people get to learn many things. You will be provided with everything there basically which is required for studies. I hope you don’t just let go of the opportunity to attend this school just based on those SOME BAD REVIES, I would suggest you should go and look by yourself.

Experience at this school is okay. The sports and teams are the only good thing here. They used to do casual days but took them away just because 1 or 4 students wouldnt wear uniforms which isn’t our problem. Bathrooms here are strict, teachers would kick out people just for fixing up their looks or chatting amongst friends which lunch takes place or before class starts so there isnt even any skipping . They keep on saying, a bathroom is to do ur buisness but really who takes a dook at school.

we arent allowed to use the bathroom under ANY circumstance unless its lunch or nutrition break (nutrition is 10 minutes long) and all of a sudden my teachers this year had an amazing idea to start a new concept of detention and gave it to us for little things like what…. and its very clear to all of us that two classes have stricter teachers than the others. our teachers think we are inferior and make it clear and sometimes i feel concerned for our safety. my smath teacher gets aggressive at little things like SMILING during class and doesnt let us leave even after the bell, my humanities teacher is annoying to listen to.. and for multiple hours on end we are to remain silent and seated (we were told clearly and threatened with detention for talking or standing up) but then we see our peers in the other class conversing with their teachers and having interactive lessons.. and their teachers let them eat in their classrooms during lunch and use their laptop and even help them with work from other classes and give them extensions on work if they are having difficulty or an issue and we are given detention if our work is incomplete, and our classrooms are closed during lunch because theyre doing detentions. how do you think my class would feel abt that?? and then they wonder why we act out and dont like school. i would leave but i like my friends but sometimes i question my own decisions to stay here. also, the bathrooms doors stay open at all times.. why even have a door then?? you can see clearly inside the bathroom and they would take the stalls away if they could and i dont even know why. we arent allowed to wear sweaters or hoodies on top of our uniform even if its -30 outside and cold in the classroom. we arent allowed to tie jackets around our waists, and i think you would know why that could be a problem, they say its not a fashion show and give us detention. my teachers like to add extra consequences over standard consequences. if you get in trouble with the principal, after having a chat with her you will receive a detention from ur smath teacher lol. or ur late to class so u get a late slip from the officebut then he gives u a detention for being late to class. and they punish us for the hallways being dirty… do you want use to start mopping with our hands? there are multiple custodians and we pick up trash when we see it but how are we supposed to clean dirt and mud?? they dont want to resolve our problems but if we try to resolve it we get in trouble lol that girl in grade 6 is evidence of that. she walks around with a teacher as a guard now but anyone who confronts her for what she does like trash talking gets scolded and suspended. anyway ill end it here its a bit long and idk if anyone will read it but thats just how it is in this school.

Very good school! I went here from 5-7. The facility has everything a middle school needs. In terms of students, they can be immature but that is the ones in higher grades. In terms of ethnicity it is a very desi school. The teachers are amazing. The ones I had were Mr. Ellen, Ms. Duncan, Ms. Dewar, Ms. Kaur, and Ms. Rowan. The school is very fun but still educational and I would recommened for people finding a middle school.

The librarian is very rude and unhelpful. She takes her problems out on others. I needed help with the printer and she asked me what was wrong once I told her she said «oh really I wouldn’t have been able to see that if you didn’t tell me» with sarcasm and attitude. Why do teachers think it is acceptable to talk to students this way? This is not the first time this librarian has talked to students this way. She always leaves me in disbelief. The way she talks to students younger and older is just shocking. She always seems to be in the worst mood and that’s okay I understand people can have bad days but it is absolutely not okay to take it out on students. Well, the school looks good and great for people who knows people there.
We have some issues, we tell them, they harass our kids. The front office staff is the worst.
They talk even to kids in a rude way. And that also infront of the parents. That is unacceptable. For that reason, I won’t recommend this school for your kids at all. Attitude matters if you are working in Canada, not to immigrants only. Hope CBE will look into this matter. Thank you.

My son went to CA from Grade 2-12. When he entered the school he couldn’t read a stitch and absolutely dreaded going to school. Within two weeks of first attending, he wanted to go to school and thrived thereafter in a very hands on classroom with very proactive teachers. In the end, he was pre-admitted to four of the five universities he applied to and continues to thrive pursuing a B.Comm. This program may not be for everyone but I can say that it worked way beyond our hopes/expectations for our son.

You know, you’d think that with a program that focuses on literary and numeracy skills and touts that everyone has an ipp and charges 5x as much for an application fee would be more open to kids who have these issues. I had three children at this school for 2 years. I would absolutely never recommend this school to an expat family who plans to leave the country and transition into a new school system. You will be shocked at just how far behind your kids are. In our case, my children were far more capable than we were led to believe. We received more remediation and support at other schools in Calgary and Calgary Academy was not at all what we were led to believe it was. We feel we were mislead by Irena in admissions. Specific resources, Orton gillingham and other specific remediation programs to address dyslexia and dysgraphia we were told were available were not at all. For a school with so many students with learning disabilities they do not even have an in house occupational therapist, but just one that rotates between schools and sees far too few students at CA in ineffective large groups. We also had to jump through hoops to get time with the OT in a group setting. In previous schools our child had OT one on one and far more frequently. We had far too many negative experiences with students who clearly had severe behavior disorders and could not act appropriately or were severely distracting. We had a situation where a student was exposing their genitals repeatedly to our child and other students. The lack of concern or response from admin was disturbing. We also had another incident where a student brought in a toy gun and was repeatedly pointing it at students heads in a school performance in front of parents. It took multiple emails with admin to even get a response to our concerns. If I could turn back the clock I would never have sent my children there. They were capable of so much more, and we would have been far better off in a more academic environment. There are much better options in Calgary if you really want to help your child and are looking for support for a learning disability. In one year’s time away from Calgary academy my kids have had to make up for lost time and also have gained at least 2 grade levels of math. They have excelled now that they are out of CA and in an environment that challenges them but also recognizes what they need. CA clearly did not offer any challenge. My son tells me he’s learned more in one month in his new school than in a full year at CA. There are some really great teachers at CA and if you’re lucky enough to have them you just might have a great year. We have also had teachers that in our experience have absolutely no business working with children. We had an experience with one teacher who we felt was not only a very inexperienced teacher, but also negligent. She went out of her way to hurt our child out of her negative feeling towards myself for speaking to admin about her negligence. Overall we were so disappointed on so many levels that I would never recommend this school to anyone. For perspective, my eldest child was in the academy program, and before coming to CA was always at level or above grade level in math. Upon leaving CA he was nearly two grade levels behind. One year in a new country and new school system and he is now entering an accelerated high school program in a university taking all college level classes with a focus in science and engineering and gaining college credits while completing high school, He was more than capable, the bar was just too low for him. The environment at CA didn’t foster academic growth at a level our kids were capable of.

The school also works on life skills, such as self control skills and social interaction development. As a student at the school, I find it very diverse full children with different interests that go from playing Fortnite or clothing, interests all the way to dungeons and dragons or boardgames. For school also has a strong belief in LGBT+ inclusivity. definitely recommend the school if your child is looking to expand their education, community, or, in general, looking to improve in a skill. Feel free to ask questions on different teachers or clubs that are already at the school.

This women screamed at me while I had a bus full of children because I parked in the school bus zone. Technically the van I drive is a school bus . She yelled and screamed you can’t park there telling me I’m not a bus just screaming move move I’m going to report you. I said for safety reasons I pull up grab my 2 kids and go . I would have to park across the street take all 7 kids of walk across the street and back .Not safe

I initially had a pretty positive experience at Bishop Pinkham, especially during my first two years. The teachers were fantastic, genuinely invested in our learning, and there was a great sense of community among the students. The school had a decent atmosphere, and the facilities were manageable, though nothing extraordinary. The lunch breaks were a reasonable length, allowing enough time to eat and socialize with friends. There was definitely a sense that the staff cared about the students, and I enjoyed my time there—at least at first.
However, by the time I reached my final year, things had taken a serious downturn. The most noticeable change was the shortening of lunch breaks. We had less time to eat, let alone relax with friends, which really impacted the overall school experience. It seemed like a small change at first, but it felt like part of a bigger shift in the school’s priorities.
The bigger issue, though, was with the staff and the facilities. Almost all the good teachers who made learning enjoyable had left, and the new staff just didn’t measure up. The remaining teachers seemed disengaged and less willing to go the extra mile for students. It was clear that the environment had shifted from one of support and care to one of indifference. The teaching quality had dropped, and that made a big difference in the classroom.
Another huge problem was the state of the bathrooms. They were awful. Dirty, rarely cleaned, and sometimes barely usable. It felt like a serious oversight, considering how much time we spent at school. It was frustrating, especially when you know the school has the resources to maintain better facilities. The lack of attention to cleanliness in such a basic area really reflected how much the school’s overall standards had slipped. Although this wasn’t the 1 caretakers fault the amount of atrocities that happened in the bathroom was awful.
While the students remained chill and friendly—something that kept the school from being a total disaster—the issues with the staff and facilities made my last year at Bishop Pinkham incredibly frustrating. It felt like the school just stopped caring. I can’t help but feel disappointed by how much it changed in such a short amount of time. What was once a school with potential turned into a place I was eager to leave behind. I honestly wouldn’t recommend it to anyone, especially if you’re hoping for a solid educational experience or a school that feels like it’s investing in its students’ well-being. French it worth it it’s a dying language anyways.

When I say this school is a dump…I mean it. Like many reviewers, I did the full 3 years at Bishop Pinkham so now that I’m well and clear, it’s time to share my thoughts. I know that junior high is meant to be terrible but some days at this school felt downright inhumane. For one, It’s filthy. I came home everyday with the intense urge to shower because I just felt so disgusting. The gym is particularly egregious, covered in gum and food scraps. Not to mention the fact that the girl’s bathroom lacked soap for 2 consecutive months. And it’s by no means the fault of the cleaning staff. There aren’t enough people hired to keep up with the mess, and the students seem hell bent on dirtying every corner of the building. (someone defecated in the sink). The hallways are also so congested you move at a snails pace trying to get to your class.
Each day I came home feeling a little less alive. I wouldn’t have the energy to do my homework because I was just so physically and emotionally exaughsted. Yes, teenagers are always tired, but an 8:00 AM start doesn’t help. Out of the many teachers I had throughout my time there, I liked maybe 3 of them. Everyone else was either hopelessly uncoordinated, deeply inconsiderate or just downright cruel. Many staff members propagated a culture of fear and disrespect, and visiting the office for a band-aid felt like stepping onto a mine-field. Last year the school started a student council with the intent of hearing student voices. We thought it was finally a step in the right direction, but instead, they just made the representatives work on events.
Speaking of events, the school fell short every time. They blew their feeble budget on motivational speakers we all just made fun of anyway, instead of taking us on field trips or putting money into actually maintaining the decaying school.
Finally, the school culture was terrible. I’m sure it’s the same for other junior highs but I witnessed a lot of bullying. There were tik tok accounts made with the purpose of attacking students and staff, and students were incredibly intolerant towards LGBTQ+ people in specific. I developped depression and anxiety during my time here, and I’ll bet I’m not the only one.
Don’t be fooled by Pinkham’s good reputation, just because it offers french doesn’t make it better. I’m sure that many years ago the school was genuinely well cared for and funded but it has since fallen from grace.
I could type endlessly about why you should avoid this school, but I hope I’ve said enough to make you stop and think before sending your child here.
