Great Events Catering

My wife and I attended "Steak 101" at Meadow Muse Pavillion hosted by Great Events Catering. I’d call it a hot mess but that might imply that any of the food was actually hot. It was slow and disorganized. The bar line was so slow that it took until an hour after the event start just to get people seated with drinks, and it was half an hour after that before we got our first course of salad. That salad had a terrible sweet bacon dressing. Lots of people send their plates back half eaten. I suffered through it as I was starving by this point. They ran out of servings when they were 5 from the end and while they quickly corrected, they obviously didn’t even know how many they were plating for which comes down to headcounts from the event organizer. We waited for at least 20-25 minutes before more food arrived – the "accompaniments". This included cold soggy onion rings, cold potatoes, cold greasy garlic toast, brussels sprouts that might have seen a pan for 30 seconds but were basically raw, and sauteed mushrooms. The mushrooms, while stone cold, were the only thing that was tasty and might have been good at some point. By this time people were so hungry that they just started chowing down and didn’t wait for steak. A server came by and offered to refill out accompaniments plate which we gladly accepted hoping round two would be warm. It was colder than round one. Eventually we did get steak. Mine was fine (other than stone cold) – all between medium rare and slightly more than medium. Other people at the table got anything from rare to well done. My wife was able to swap her almost-rare pieces for my almost-well pieces so we were both happy but others didn’t have that luxury. The compound butter and Chimichurri served with the steak were the stars of the show. Dessert was quite good so we ended on a positive note. In the end, we arrived at 6:00 PM and left at 9:45 PM – almost 4 hours for seating and dinner and not worth the wait. I’ll never dine at The Ranche or Annie’s (not that I ever have), I would absolutely never hire Great Events to cater a corporate event or wedding.

Remember the time we went to Agra and got pictures of everything but the Taj Mahal? That's what this review feels like because I forgot to take a pic of the MAIN ATTRACTION! The largest, most succulent, vibrant lobsters I have had in decades. But, please don't punish Great Events Catering because of my mistake. I assure you the entire meal we ordered had us surreptitiously licking our plates. It's become an end-of-the-year tradition to order lobster dinner. If Great Events keeps the same seafood supplier, this will be our go-to choice! The dinner came prepared, to heat: oven vegetables, white asparagus preserves, beet trio with goat cheese salad, artisan baguette, whole Atlantic lobsters, buttered rum eggnog cheesecake. The price was very reasonable (including the cost of home delivery) and the presentation was beautiful. Most importantly the ingredients were fresh and the flavours delightful. We had been looking very forward to this meal for weeks and even still, it surpassed our expectations.

Went to an open house tasting and the quality was way higher than expected. Food was good and had a lovely presentation. However they did a poor job labelling allergies. For celiacs, they do have gluten free food but be cautious of cross contamination and poor labelling, I did get glutened. Service was decent, some good and some passable. The food overall was really enjoyable and modern which lead to the carter being booked from this tasting. The wine they served however was not good so see if they have other options.

Was a guest last night at a Mexican themed birthday party…Great Events Catering did an AMAZING job. The food was delicious! And the portions were so generous. The staff was wonderful, I’d hire these fabulous caters anytime!! Thank you! Josée

I must give a 'Glowing' Review for Great Events Catering. It was excellent Service and attention to detail from the very first phone call (with Caroline Mazzillo) about planning a Catered Dinner Party for 40 people. The Party was a Mexican Fiesta Theme, and ALL the food was 'outstanding' which incorporated this cuisine. The Empanadas, Enchiladas, Quesadillas, Mexican Rice, Kabobs, Greek Salad, Hand-Cut Tortilla Chips with homemade Salsa & Guacamole and all the Desserts were absolutely 'delicious'!! There was also plenty of food and our Dinner could probably have fed 60 people. Amazing!!! The Staff who came to our home to set up all the Food & Dishes were so helpful, friendly and Professional. We just cannot say enough on how 'Thrilled' we were with this Food & Service and we definitely would hire Great Events Catering again!!! Thank You so much for making our Party truly 'Exceptional'!! I used this amazing catering company for my wedding reception at Spruce Meadows. They did an outstanding job. They set up all of the tables, place setting, and made the most elegant dishes. The food was delicious, and they were so accommodating to all the allergies and intolerances present. I specifically worked with Michelle, who worked SO hard, and was SO flexible, to ensure the evening was perfect. She was extremely quick to follow up on emails, and always answered in great detail. The servers, cooks, and everyone else behind the scenes did an amazing job to make our wedding reception wonderful! My husband and I are eternally grateful.

Ordered 2 charcuterie boards for Mother’s Day. Tasted great but looked like they were thrown together without a single care being given. With the amount of companies offering these products and services, I likely won’t be ordering again. A significant part of the charcuterie experience is the presentation, and I found myself quite disappointed at what arrived.
