This was my first time ever having to take a dog to an emergency pet hospital, and while the situation was naturally stressful, I had a very positive experience here. From the moment we arrived, the staff was incredibly attentive, kind, and compassionate. They made sure my pup was seen promptly and took the time to explain everything clearly, which really helped put me at ease.
It’s never easy dealing with a pet emergency, but their professionalism and genuine care made a tough situation much more manageable. I’m grateful for the support we received and wouldn’t hesitate to return if needed in the future.

Thank you for providing such fast and efficient service during our difficult time. We deeply appreciate the way you cared for our beloved Codey during his final moments. I was truly impressed by the compassion shown by all the doctors and staff. One key moment that I will never forget was when Dr. Claire sent me a photo of my dog and reassured me that my boy was being well looked after. That gesture meant so much to me and brought comfort during a very emotional time.
Your kindness and professionalism made all the difference, and I will always be grateful for the care you provided to Codey and to us as a family.

I’m so grateful to the team at Fish Creek Pet Hospital for the kindness and compassion they showed during my cat’s final moments. They treated him with such care and helped him pass peacefully, purring in my arms. The staff made a heartbreaking time a little more bearable, and I’ll never forget that. Thank you for everything.
Victor Jimenez (☆ 5/5)

We’ve been taking our dog here for years and have to say, we’ve found the staff to be pretty amazing. Sometimes getting an appointment can take a while, but they accept walk ins as well, and seem to really do their best to get you in and out as quickly as possible. The receptionists are professional, kind and knowledgeable. They’ve even been a great help just giving me advice over the phone. We’ve found the vets to be incredibly transparent, both when it comes to possible diagnosis and the cost of procedures, while still maintaining compassion and empathy. Overall, we’ve been very happy with our experiences here. At the end of the day, most people are going to a vet for stressful reasons which are compounded by getting a big bill at the end. These guys make it a bit easier on you.
Gabrielle Vanderwerff (☆ 5/5)

Visited tonight with one of my cats. The people who work here are all so kind, within minutes of arriving they had my little guy being looked at to make sure it wasn’t a blockage. I watched as a few other people rushed in with multiple different issues and everyone was treated with great care and kindness. I can’t imagine this is an easy job and to see how much these people truly care about the animals was amazing and heartwarming. Found the prices to be very reasonable as well.

On the weekend, my family and I had to deal with an experience all pet owners know is coming, but dread with the heaviest of hearts. Our family dog, a 17 (few short months short of 18) year old puggle was showing the signs that something wasn’t right. We brought him to Fish Creek Pet Hospital to have him looked at and the staff could not have been any more comforting, empathetic, understanding and just overall amazing. While the outcome was what we had dreaded, from the moment we arrived until we left with our empty dog bed the care from the staff made it a little easier and is something my family will always be thankful for.
Courtney Powell (☆ 5/5)

We highly recommend Fish Creek Animal Hospital! The doctors and team who cared for our 10-week-old GSP puppy were incredibly compassionate, empathetic and professional. They treated our pup with so much love and attention, which meant the world to us during such a stressful time.
As new pet owners, we were so scared and emotional when our puppy became ill, but the team at Fish Creek was amazing. They provided us with regular, thorough updates and took the time to explain everything clearly. Their detailed assessments and genuine care reassured us that our puppy was in the best possible hands.
We cannot thank you enough for your dedication and expertise, our pup is on the road to recovery, and we are so grateful.

I would like to write this as a huge thank you from my family and I. A month ago I had to come in to VCA North unexpectedly, and say goodbye to my soul dog. From that morning I had a feeling that his sudden sickness was very serious. Going in I was extremely emotional and distressed. But from the phone call, to getting to the front desk, to being in the room, to saying goodbye; the receptionist, vet tech, and Dr. Imogen was so incredibly comforting and empathetic. The receptionist (I’m sorry that I have forgotten her name but she had glasses, red short hair, and tattoos), she encouraged me over the phone, and comforted me in the room, and I could genuinely feel how much she felt for me in that moment.
It is a difficult job to have to manage some of peoples worst days but it’s a job that has to be done. So I’m incredibly thankful for everyone who does it and does it with grace and kindness. I find comfort knowing that Roman got lots of pets and cuddles by lots of sweet people before his last moments and he adored that for sure
Thank you again from the bottom of my heart, and the handwritten card from all the staff was beautiful Continue to lead with your hearts and use your gifts to take care of all the precious animals, as they bring a unique joy and goodness everywhere they go.
Sarah Caponero (☆ 5/5)

This vet is ultra expensive and the vets/receptionist always seem to be in a rush and rude. When I was talking to the vets and receptionist, I was cut off a lot. When I was explaining an issue to the receptionist, she cut me off a lot (I think she assumed she knew what I was going to say) and then misunderstood the problem I was trying to convey. It also costs $100 to just talk to a vet. We ended up forking out $3500 just for them to look after my cat and empty his bladder. I was then told I could see how my cat was doing after taking prescription medication or have my cat go through surgery. The vet said that surgery can have complications, so I told them I wanted to not go for surgery yet. I did research after and complications for bladder surgery is rare and most complications are due to the anesthesia. I was not informed that the complications were rare. My cat had suffered from a urinary blockage again not too long after and we went to VCA again. They said they would charge $5000 for bladder surgery and two overnight stays, which we didn’t end up doing and went to another vet hospital.
I went to Barlow Trail Hospital instead and they charged $1500 with no overnight stays. It cost nothing to talk to a vet at this hospital and the vet texted us everyday about my pet to check on his health. They also gave free urinary food. This vet went above and beyond and I would recommend Barlow Trail Hospital if you can go there during opening hours. The vet there also said we should keep my cat out of there as much as possible because my cat hates the vet, while VCA wanted my cat to stay longer after surgery.
I called the VCA to ask about the prices of the same urinary food that I got from Barlow Trail Hospital. When I asked about the prices and I misheard her and was wondering why the prices were so high, the woman on the phone yelled at me as she corrected me on the price. She apologized in person when I went to get the food, but I still feel like this behaviour is unacceptable and rude, especially since I just went through such a hard experience with my pet. I work with clients with addictions and people on the street and I do not treat my clients this way, burnt out or not. It’s incredibly unprofessional. I will say the receptionist did mean her apology and tried to make it up to me, but it still was an uncomfortable situation.
I love my cat so much. Peanut Butter is a good cat and he is a smart cat that knows tricks. This was such a difficult time for me.

Had such a great experience at VCA with Dr. Erfani. From the moment we walked in, the staff were super friendly, welcoming, and caring. Dr. Erfani had such a great attitude and made sure my puppy, Luna, felt totally comfortable during her first visit. She took the time to explain all the necessary shots for Luna’s age and answered all my questions clearly.
I ended up signing up for their care club, which covers all the vet visits, her spay, and a bunch of other things for the first year, definitely worth it. As a bonus, the first visit was completely free thanks to their puppy promotion. I’m super happy with the whole experience. Dr. Erfani is amazing and I highly recommend her if you’re looking for a vet who truly cares.

We brought our 7-week-old Golden Retriever puppy, Luna, in for her first vaccines and were so impressed with Dr. Erfani. She was kind, patient, and clearly cared about Luna’s comfort. She answered all our questions and made the whole experience smooth and stress-free. Highly recommend!

Wonderful group of individuals to cate for your fur babies. We choose to have this location as our base home for veterinary care. They care for needs year round and it is excellent to know they are available for emergencies if needed. 24 he care.
Tracy Johansen (☆ 5/5)

I dunno how anyone could give them a bad review.
They are expensive but you pay for what you get! Start to finish they were incredible! Front desk and doctors everyone was so caring and helpful!
They help you with payment options and make everything as easy as possible with your pets care as their number one focus.
They explain everything very well and try to keep the cost at only what is really needed.
I have no doubt Marshmellow received the best possible care and we took him to the right place.
If you are worried about your pets health and not being about to afford it doesn’t matter take them in! They will help you. I cannot thank them enough. It’s rare to find such great care and as someone that has a family member that runs their own veterinarian clinic in Manitoba I greatly appreciate great service.
A medical emergency is always very scary! Please remember to treat the staff kindly regardless of the situation.

Very awesome clinic! I called on very short notice to get my kitty vaccines done and they were super accommodating for me! The receptionists are all very kind and patient with your animals, and the vet I saw is very thorough and also quick, knowledgeable and helpful with any questions. The prices of getting my kitten vaccines done here are definitely cheaper than some vets out there so we drive all the way across town to come here!! My kitten was pretty calm due to the nice environment, we will be making this our regular vet!

Our family was very pleased with the service provided by the Beddington Trail Animal Hospital; we needed our puppy’s teeth cleaned and here we found a service we could afford. They cap the cost very reasonably and don’t cut on service and profesionalism. We received calls throughout the day, as procedure progressed, and a follow up telephone call. Very attentive and responsive staff! We look forward to go there again, when needed. On behalf of Mack.

My 14 year old chihuahua, Bird, and I had our first visit at Beddington Trail Animal Hospital this morning. Bird had her check-up and vaccinations with Dr. Sekhon, who is the nicest, gentlest, and kindest veterinarian I’ve ever encountered! He explained everything, including the initially worrisome news that Bird has a heart murmur, for which she was prescribed medicine, and I was assured that she’ll be okay while on medication. Dr. Sekhon was so knowledgeable and helpful in easing my fears about Bird’s health – I truly appreciate his expertise and empathy for not only animals, but their overly anxious owners as well!
The visit was topped off by care from the sweetest souls up at reception, who clearly understand how to deliver excellent customer service!
Thank you to everyone at BTAH for an amazing first visit!
Sent with blessing, gratitude and love ❤️

This place is wonderful . The prices are very nice to your budget. The vets are astonishingly warm hearted and actually about the animals. And they do their very best to get you in. I have been admitted quickly for two emergencies and am so gremateful as this is NOT an emergency clinic. Would highly recommend. I wish all clinics were this great!

We are very happy with our recent experience with this clinic. We sent our inquiries by email and every email got answered within minutes. We arrived at our appointment and received warm welcome from the receptionists (and other dogs). The doctor we met was kind and answered all our questions. We will keep coming back!

For years I’ve taken many of my animals here and I’ve always had an amazing experience. The staff are amazing, I feel like I never have to wait and compared to other vets, their prices are so good. 10/10 will always recommend and continue coming

Staff is always friendly, caring and efficient. They were so compassionate with my senior dogs. Their fees for tests and procedures were almost 1/2 the price of other vets I inquired at! I trust them completely with the care of my new kitten.

Legacy Vet has been a true blessing for our family!
My wife and I have been bringing our pets to Legacy Vet for almost 10 years now, and we can’t say enough great things about the care they’ve provided. Jason, Jackie, Katherine and Julie at reception are always warm, welcoming, and go above and beyond to make every visit smooth — they’ve become familiar faces we genuinely look forward to seeing.
Dr. Maryam and Dr. Gaiana have been absolutely amazing throughout Frankie’s diabetes journey over the past year. We’ve felt fully supported, informed, and reassured every step of the way. Frankie is thriving thanks to their attentive care and compassion.
And our other pup, Piper, who’s always been anxious about vet visits, is treated with such patience and understanding by the entire team. They truly take the time to make her feel safe and seen.
Legacy Vet isn’t just a clinic — they’re extended family to us and our dogs. We’re so grateful for their years of consistent, exceptional care. ❤️

Dr. Monica is a gem. I had an issue with both my dogs yesterday I was stressed out and very concerned. She was able to block off some time to see me. I also very much appreciated the assistance from Jack as well, she was very understanding and did her best to find an appointment for me. The team at this Clinic are impeccable, friendly and efficient and I highly recommend this Clinic.

Dr. Jen is fantastic and has a genuine love for cats. She dealt with Remmy with love and patience and brought him a lick mat to gain his trust and to distract him! She was quick but very thorough with questions and answered all of our concerns. I highly recommend her if you’re struggling to find a vet that genuinely understands and cares for your cat.

We had our first visit at Legacy Vet clinic today and it was wonderful! The entire team was amazing. The clinic was clean and bright. The nicest part was, unlike most vet clinics, they did not try and upset anything. It didn’t feel like they are chasing money, they truly care about their patients. The puppy wellness plan is a great service as well! I absolutely will recommend this clinic to anyone!!!! Our new puppy Holly loved everyone!

Highly recommend this clinic! They always take such good care of my Chester and the front desk is always so friendly and amazing. The vet explains everything beforehand and offered to send quotes for neutering etc.
I always look forward to taking Chester here and they will take amazing care of you and your pet

Impressive clinic. Staff are excellent and deliver true client services. They know that little touches count and are very good at calming the Guardian/Pet Parent who in doing so then calms their pet. Location is convenient with lots of available parking. Definitely has the perfect balance of modern advanced technu and old school time and care that makes you and loved one feel cared for and looked after. So glad we moved to this clinic!

I brought my cat in to get his ears checked a couple weeks ago. She determined he had an ear infection and that it was not ear mites. She then asked if I wanted to treat him for ear mites anyway. I said no, why would I do that? Then she talked me into a vaccination booster. He never goes outside, but sure go ahead. Then she asked if I wanted to get him dewormed. I said does he have worms? No. Yeah, I’ll pass. $315 later I was out the door with some medication for his ear infection. I thought it was strange that the exam didn’t include your usual check the teeth, temperature, weight etc etc. Well, that was two weeks ago and his ears have only gotten worse. The poor guy is an agony. The medication did not work and I 100% administered it properly. I called the vet today to let them know. He said we can schedule an appointment. I said great, there won’t be any charge for that I assume? He said no, you have to pay for another examination. I was extremely upset. I thought he was already diagnosed with an ear infection? It is obvious this clinic doesn’t give a damn about anything but money. I literally wasted $315 for them to do nothing for me and now they want more money while my cat suffers. Apparently, you have to be wealthy to own a pet nowadays. This clinic should be ashamed of themselves. Thanks for nothing.

We had two big, beautiful Bouviers, both with different kinds of cancer at the same time and both in treatment at the CARE Centre. We lost our beautiful Winnie in January 2025 and our gentle giant Sully in February 2025. We have settled into our new normal with a house much too quiet, more spare time, too much room for people on our couches, and a lack of obstacle courses on our kitchen floors. We are not fans, but this is the way things are right now.
We have sincere and abundant gratitude for the Oncology team and their treatment of our Sully and Winnie. We so appreciated the kindness and understanding that we received with each visit. Dr. Larson’s candid yet gentle approach to very difficult questions and delivery of difficult news was valued. At all times we felt that they had our babies’ interests ahead of all else. They gave us a clear understanding of our options but made it clear what was best for Sully and Winnie. We never felt like we were pushed into anything. Dr. Larson’s honesty was invaluable in deciding when it was time for us to let go. As difficult as it was, we knew it was best for our babies when the time came.
Winnie was diagnosed first with lymphoma and actually went into remission twice within an 18-month period before we lost her to other circumstances. Sully was diagnosed later with a very aggressive form of MAST Cell cancer. Should you ever have questions about the value of their treatment, I would be happy to talk to you. I was also skeptical in the beginning, but Dr. Larson’s team gave us an additional 18 months or so with our Winnie and a little extra time with our Sully. Time we cherished and used to send them over the rainbow bridge as spoiled and loved as possible and we will be forever grateful for that. Of course, the price of that extra time is high, and we had pet insurance, so we were able to do it. Not everyone can.
The oncology team sent flowers and cards with personal, thoughtful messages after each passed. The messages in the cards made us all shed a tear, but it was touching to know that they all found Sully to be the gentle «goofball» and Winnie to be the quirky lovable pooch that we knew and loved.
It would be remiss of me not to mention the same caring and kindness from Dr. Genovese and the Dermatology team (Winnie), Dr. Little and her surgical team (Sully), and the ER veterinarian (I did not get his name) that helped us through Winnie’s chaotic end of life. As well all of their receptionists were always pleasant, sympathetic, and kind. I have nothing negative to say about anyone in the CARE Centre whatsoever.

I leave honest reviews regularly — and this is one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had.
My dog Meesha has a suspected lung tumor. My veterinarian submitted a full and thorough referral, including all relevant medical records, history, and lab work. Everything was done correctly on our end. I then personally spoke to a staff member at VCA Care Centre and clearly explained that we were dealing with a possible cancer diagnosis. I even asked directly about CT imaging.
And yet — despite all of that — they booked us into the wrong department.
Let that sink in.
A pet with a likely cancer diagnosis… and they scheduled us with the completely wrong team because no one bothered to actually read the referral or listen to what I said. And instead of owning that mistake, they tried to deflect and blame my vet — who did his job perfectly.
To make things even more outrageous, I waited an hour and a half to speak to the manager in person, only to be met with coldness, defensiveness, and absolutely zero accountability. Not even an apology. No urgency. No plan to fix it.
This wasn’t a mix-up about nail trims or routine bloodwork. This is a case involving a potentially life-threatening condition, and their complete failure to act responsibly may have cost my dog valuable time.
If you care about your pet and expect a specialty care center to treat urgent cases with the seriousness they deserve — stay far away from VCA Care Centre in Calgary. The system is broken, the staff is careless, and the leadership lacks even the most basic empathy or professionalism.
They should be ashamed.

We can’t say enough positive things about the staff at the VCA , from the moment we went in with our gorgeous golden retriever Nelly the front desk staff couldn’t have done more. very friendly and so accommodating, Becky was truly amazing checking in on us and keeping us updated. The vets are truly miracle workers for what they did for our Nelly , We are forever thankful and grateful to everyone that helped Nelly . The care she received was outstanding and as very worried doggie parents the Communication and updates we received was amazing . We even got pictures sent to us. Nelly spent 4 days in the care of the vets and nurses it’s so hard being away from your pet but we knew she was in the best hand at the VCA .
Thank you all so much for making our girl better and giving her so much love and care ❤️ ❤️

My dog had been receiving treatment for lymphoma here for over a year. Dr. Larson’s team was highly professional, skilled, and compassionate. They showed us so much love and care, which deeply touched me.
The emergency team is also truly admirable. During my time in the emergency room, I witnessed their dedication and hard work firsthand. They work tirelessly with a strong sense of responsibility, which is truly commendable.
Everyone here is genuinely friendly. I am truly grateful to them and will always cherish the time we spent together.

We spent a lot of money at paramount vet before being directed here by our regular vet. We got a diagnosis and treatment in one place in one session. They were professional and concise. Our boy needed a neurologist we found out. Dr.Diaz is the only one in the province. He has gone above and beyond for our boy Pluto. My only regret not coming here sooner to get the help he needed. Wet will not be going to any other emergency services from now on. And we drive from the north end! Can’t best the quality service. Thank you.

We’ve had first hand experience with the dedication and care everyone at this hospital puts into each and every patient. My partner is a contractor who had rare behind the scenes access to the hospital. Every day he had stories about the gentleness and dedication of the staff. He described every patient getting one on one care including a staff member sitting beside a dog or cat for hours, just so they wouldn’t be alone or afraid at their most vulnerable time.
Dr. Neil Connery and his team have done multiple surgeries on our dog with hip dysplasia, and we can say unequivocally he is a magician. He’s the absolute best in his field with the support from his fantastic team. Our dog is thriving under his care and we’d like to express our heartfelt appreciation for everything the staff does for our dog while she’s in care.
This hospital is second to none for caring for sick and injured animals, THANK YOU ALL.

We arrived there with my cat, Biscuit at 5am on a Sunday as he had an unexpected seizure for the first time. I was really scared for him but was thankful for VCA to be open 24/7 as most vet places were closed. The staff were very polite and calm. No wait time as we were the only ones there. The vet was very nice and explained the causes and answered all of my questions. I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for an emergency care place for their pets. Amazing people and great patience!

Personally I could not say better things about this veterinary office. This clinic has provided comfort and kindness regarding our kitten Gimli. Dr.Joe is absolutely one of the best veterinarians I’ve seen and trusted with my cats. Dr. Joe is a phenomenal doctor and your animals are definitely in good hands with him. The girls at the front desk are so great very gentle and friendly and cared about my boy. overall such a great experience thank you so much to everyone at downtown animal clinic

My cat may not enjoy coming here, but I am so happy with my experiences so far. The veterinarians are very patient and knowledgeable and don’t recommend unnecessary treatments that are expensive. Reception and the vet assistant are so great to deal with and I love that they do follow up calls. Another bonus is that if you adopt from the Meow Foundation, you receive a complimentary first exam. I would definitely recommend this clinic and will continue to bring my furbaby here.

I’ve had Labrador Retrievers my entire adulthood and when we moved from Toronto we found the Animal Clinic simply because it was close to where we lived. What an amazing stroke of luck this was. Our chocolate lab Jack, who was my best friend, my everyday companion and teacher to everyone to move forward always with love, and my absolute soul dog. He was about 9 years old when we first met Dr. Joe, and he guided us through the couple good years we had left, and then through the unbearable months when Jack would come in nearly every other week to get a status on how his breathing was going (he had inflammation in his lungs that made it difficult to breath). For the last two years of his life I pushed him everywhere in a cart and he walked when he wanted to and got a ride when he wasn’t up for walking, but mostly I pushed him to the river so he could enjoy his number one love, swimming. When it was time to let him go it was done with love, compassion and sensitivity; Dr. Joe made the hardest thing I have ever had to do as peaceful, respectful and as lovingly as he could for my great big hearted Jack. When I said goodbye, I knew he went painlessly, surrounded by love; there’s no one on earth I would have wanted with us more than Dr. Joe. When I left the clinic alone, I didn’t think I’d ever be able to have another dog. When I picked up his ashes, the staff gave me the most beautiful card with a sketch of a lab’s head on the front and everyone not only signed it, but wrote something lovely about their memories of Jack. They included clippings of his fur in the card. His ashes are now inside his favourite ball and the rest are in his favourite swimming hole. As it happens, I did move on (though I still miss Jack terribly) and now I take my Lab Finnegan to see Dr. Joe. This clinic was sensitive to my feelings, and memories of losing Jack, so they didn’t bring Finnegan and me to the room where Jack died when I brought him in. I can’t say enough wonderful things about Dr. Joe and his team. You will always be treated with compassion and kindness and will be charged fairly. I’m so grateful to have this clinic and Dr. Joe and wouldn’t go anywhere else, even though we no longer live close to the clinic.
This is where you need to bring your fur babies; give them a try, you won’t regret it.

I have complete confidence in Dr. Joe and the staff at Downtown Animal Clinic. Dr. Joe’s gentle handling of my 2 cats is reassuring as is his expertise. I really appreciate that he does not push for unnecessary testing and lab work as I am on a fixed income and I must be careful to spend my money wisely. His kind demeanour helps my 2 nervous cats through their checkups. Highly recommend this clinic and Dr. Joe.

Joe is the best vet in this city. I have known him for 20+ years. We just lost our last dog and I’m sad that I will no longer get to see you. He is the most friendly, kind and companionate person I have meet. I would drive from any part of the city to bring my pets to him. Thank you Joe I will still refer you to all my friends

I recently took my cat Scooter to this clinic and had a fantastic experience.
Dr. Joe was not only incredibly knowledgeable, but he was also very gentle and patient with Scooter. He took the time to thoroughly examine my cat and address all of my questions.
I can tell that he genuinely cares about the well-being of his furry patients.
The clinic itself was immaculate – very modern and the staff is very friendly.
Five stars without a doubt!

After trying several other vets in Calgary, McKnight is the only one that hasn’t let us down. We treat our dog like our kid, and this clinic treats him with the same level of care and respect. They listen to every concern, never dismiss anything, and are always kind and gentle.
Our dog trusts them completely. He’s never anxious going in, and that says a lot. We’ve had nothing but consistent, compassionate care, and they’ve truly earned our trust. If you’re looking for a vet that actually cares, this is the one.

I’ve had nothing but amazing experiences with everyone at this clinic. The staff are patient, kind, and explain everything clearly, which has really helped during some stressful visits. My pets have always been treated with gentle, thoughtful care, and I feel like the whole team truly cares. I’ve been in a few times recently, and while vet visits aren’t cheap, the pricing here has felt very fair—especially compared to emergency clinics. I’m so grateful for their support and highly recommend them.

I took my dog there to have a lump removed off its neck. The staff and the veterinarian were both very friendly and knowledgeable . I left with excellent instructions on how to treat the dog after surgery. I was very pleased with the way the dog and I were treated . I will definitely be going back in the future.

My daughter’s dog Odin suffered from an inability to relieve his bowels. We took him there. They never did anything to help him but burned through +$3000 of my daughter’s money including neutering the poor dog for no reason. The neutering did not go well and the poor animals testical sack swelled up to 4 times the normal size. We ended up putting him down at a clinic on 16th avenue. Avoid these evil people

Awesome staff at McKnight Vet Hospital. Took my puppy there and wouldn’t go anywhere else. They are all so friendly and compassionate and Dr.Pugh was awesome ! Explaining everything in detail and very up front and honest. The new Healthy Start Program is so well worth it, it doesn’t leave you guessing on anything.

A few months ago, I brought my cat in for an urgent assessment. I didn’t realize that I had to make an appointment because they are a «veterinary hospital» but the receptionist went above and beyond and got us in first thing. It turned out that he had a severe urinary blockage. The vet administered some pain medicine, did some preliminary diagnostics and discussed options was us. Unfortunately, we had to make the very difficult decision of having to euthanize our cat (severity and other complications). I had my 5 year old with me at the time not anticipating that this was a possible scenario but all of the staff were very kind, empathetic and helped make the most of our situation. I have had a few other experiences with other vet clinics and despite this experience being a tough one, it was one that will stay with me. The vet was very thorough in discussing options for treatments and prices. She answered all of our questions and gave us time and space to make our decision. I felt like the total cost was very reasonable and felt reassured that we were not being taken advantage of (financially) during this tragic situation. I deeply appreciate the patience and understanding of the staff and we felt well cared for and got to hold and be with our kitty until the very end. Thank you for your kindness and compassion! You made a very challenging experience a little less difficult and we will be sure to entrust you with the care of our future furry friends.

McKnight Vet Hospital is always my 1st choice to take my little old lady «Lupita», (she’s 16 years) when she has some health issues. We are always welcomed with friendly smiles and treats. Never have to wait more than a few minutes. The vets have always been so sweet…5 stars are well deserved.
Thanks ladies

My girl Indie came here for several years to see the Cardiology Team, Dr. Kong and Cardiology Tech Mackenzie are so amazing! I always felt so supported and comforted regarding Indies heart health and how her condition was progressing. Dr. Kong always explained everything to me fully, answering all of my questions, even showing me the echocardiogram and explaining what she was seeing, along with Indies options for treatments and medications. If I ever needed help or advice between appointments, they were always there for me!
A few months ago, I had an emergency with Indie and brought her in through the ER department. Dr. Belyk took care of Indie that day and I am so grateful for her. The whole team did absolutely everything they could to try and save my girl. They kept me updated the whole they worked on her, but unfortunately she passed even with all of their life saving efforts. The whole staff were so considerate, patient, understanding, and went above and beyond with their care for Indie and my whole family during this time. We never felt rushed or pressured in any way. They gave us as much time and space to say our goodbyes to my girl in a quiet, comfortable and peaceful room. Along with Dr. Belyk, the Vet Techs and Receptionists including Savannah, Sierra, and Lucas were all so kind and compassionate.
Thank you so much to the entire team at Western for the amazing care you provided both myself and my girl Indie over the years.

My dog got surgery here last week and everything went smoothly. The staff are all really great, and I wanted to give a shout out to the client care coordinator, Amber, who always emails or calls back right away for any questions and concerns I have about the surgery. She’s been so lovely, patient, and knowledgeable and has made the whole process much less stressful. Thank you Amber and the whole team at VCA Western ✨

Our cat experienced a serious reaction to anesthesia during a routine dental procedure, which resulted in fluid building up in her lungs. From the very beginning, the staff acted quickly and proactively with every decision, while also showing kindness to both her and us. We needed to transport her to the facility via ambulance, and the team took every precaution to ensure her safety. Dr Patterson kept us informed of her evolution and explained carefully the diagnosis and steps to follow. After three days in the ICU in an oxygen chamber, our cat was finally able to come home. We are forever grateful for the patience and care the team provided her, including their effort to pronounce her name correctly.

I bought my dog here because our normal vet was booked and there was no appt available. My vet suggested i bring her here for emergency care, i was super frantic and emotional and the staff was super friendly and they took my dog in right away while i filled out the paperwork. They gave her an of pain meds and examined her. We got the diagnosis and went home with more pain med and aftercare. I’m so happy that it helped with the pain of my dog. There was lots of parking and this place was easy to get to. Thanks to the kind staff.

I took my 3 month old cockapoo here tonight after a long exhausting week. He got into some garbage that could’ve been lethal to his little body and gastrointestinal tract. I called prior and told the very kind lady, Miranda, on the phone about my situation. She placed me on hold and spoke to a vet. When she came back to the phone she gave me my options. After a short deliberation I decided to come in as I was quite worried. She greeted me and my baby with such kindness and hospitality. I was unsure of the process as it was my first time at a vet. My puppy got into very quickly and it was less than an hour wait before they brought me into the exam room. Catherine was so amazing!!! She was very informative and didn’t just tell me things to gauge me with costs. She gave me her honest opinion and made me feel like I didn’t have to spend extortion amounts of money. We decided to try and induce vomiting on him as a first step and the garbage came out. She came back into the exam room after doing so and we were both jumping for joy. I can’t say enough sweet words about my first time experience and the amazing staff that helped me. Thank you for saving my puppy and helping me have a sense of calm after a long day! 5 stars, they’re so amazing here. ❤️

We had an amazing experience at this clinic. Our senior dog experienced a medical emergency. They got him in quickly and got his symptoms managed. He stayed over night and while he did look like he missed us when we picked him up, he was stable and continued to get better under the regiment prescribed by the vet. The doctors and the vet techs were incredibly kind, empathetic and I could tell they treated our boy very well. The front desk staff were terrific, and we felt comforted and supported through every step of this emergency.

Evelyn passed yesterday – at home surrounded by those she loves and who will forever love her. That was only possible because of the dedication of the amazing veterinary staff at Western. Dr Williams provided us with the best care. She not only clearly has amazing expertise, she also cares deeply for her patients, human and pet. The entire oncology team clearly loved Evelyn and provided me with compassion at every turn. The emergency team also provided us with amazing care. I will forever recommend Western both for specialist care and emergency services. Thank you!

I had to take my elderly dog for an emergency visit at 2am and sadly had to put her down. The staff were extremely compassionate and caring and treated my sweet girl with so much love and compassion. The vet was very gentle with me as well, thoroughly explaining everything with tact and so much kindness (good bedside manner). Even though they were busy, they didn’t rush anything with us. They let me stay with her in the back for as long as I wanted and even after she took her last breath they talked to her and treated her so carefully. I got her cremated with a beautiful urn and requested her little nose prints as well (which turned out perfectly and just the way I remember her sweet little snout). A couple weeks after her passing I received the most beautiful card signed by all the staff, with thoughtful handwritten notes (not just quick signatures). It was truly comforting. I know all vets are costly and I believe this is the going rate, but my bill came to $700 for an assessment (18 lb dog), vitals, IV and euthanasia, and private cremation with engraved urn (they don’t charge any extra for 24 hour emergency services)… but just a heads up if you have to make the painstaking decision to have to do this with your pet, just be prepared for the bill (like I said though, I’m sure this is probably pretty average pricing… I just haven’t had to euthanize a pet in years so wasn’t mentally prepared for a large vet bill to say bye to my little girl). If I recall it was only about $150 more get her privately cremated and custom urn. Overall, as horrible as the situation is, I believe they made it as peaceful, gentle and loving as they could possibly be. The lady at the front desk had the most gentle and compassionate voice when explaining everything, it was so unbelievably comforting giving the situation <3 I truly felt like they were feeling everything I was going through on a personal level too — you can truly tell they all care so much about animals and peoples’ pets. Also, the vet clinic is absolutely stunning and modern — great vibes all around.

So about a month ago my bunny Toastie went into gi stasis in the middle of the night, around 12am. Me and my mom were panicked trying to find an emergency vet that took rabbit, especially at night. We came across Paramount and after reading all the good reviews we decided to take Toastie here. We called them beforehand and they were very professional and informed us it was best to take him in right away. We made the drive up to Paramount and when we got there they took him to the back immediately. We were shocked at the fact there was no wait and they were already prepared for him. The waiting room that me and my mom sat in was extremely nice, the facility was also extremely clean, and quiet. All of the staff were extremely nice and very upfront about the costs of everything. They treated Toastie very well and the meds they gave him worked. He was back to his usual self around 2 days after the visit. I can’t explain how grateful I am to Paramount for helping my bunny. Extremely disappointed and heartbroken.
Today I rushed to this clinic with my dog Tymon, who had been attacked, he was bleeding from the neck and had a head injury. I chose this clinic because Tymon was already their patient. When I arrived, the receptionist, who didn’t seem very concerned, told me I could sit and wait about 45 minutes because they had scheduled appointments and no one could help me right away.
I had no issue waiting, I simply asked if a vet could quickly come out and assess whether my dog was stable enough to wait that long. The receptionist told me that it wasn’t possible either.
I left immediately and called the next closest clinic. They asked how fast I could get there and said a vet would wait for me at the emergency entrance. I arrived in 7 minutes and the help was already at the door.
I never imagined an animal clinic could treat suffering animals with such a lack of compassion. The receptionist didn’t even think to ask a vet for advice, it felt like we were just brushed off.
When you spend so much money at a place like this for a beloved companion, you expect it to be trustworthy and caring. Sadly, Ramsay Animal Clinic proved to be the opposite.
I do not recommend this clinic. If they’re unable to respond appropriately in an emergency, I truly doubt they can provide reliable care in normal situations either.

Safe to say our experience with this vet caused us immense anxiety and near financial burden. We brought our dog in about a month ago to have a lump on her leg checked out. The doctor (who never introduced himself to us) didn’t touch her once and only visually checked the mass out before googling the type of tumor he believed it to be. He immediately suggested surgery and a biopsy, which would cost upwards of $2000. We were anxious as new dog owners but we booked in for the surgery a few weeks in advance.
After about 2 weeks we noticed the lump had virtually disappeared and became almost non-existent. We decided to take her to another vet for a second opinion and he was able to let us know surgery wasn’t needed, and to make sure to keep an eye on the spot in the future. If it does come back there is an option for a minimally invasive aspiration; a procedure that was not brought up at Ramsay. When we called to cancel the surgery, we were not asked any follow up questions or information, they simply just said «okay» and hung up.
Instead of giving us options and information, this doctor immediately chose the most invasive and expensive option for our 2 year old otherwise healthy dog. After reading a recent review from someone who went through a similar experience, I can with 100% confidence tell you to go elsewhere when your animal is in need of veterinary care, even if it costs a bit more. With low costs brings lower standards of care and unfortunately that seems to be the case at Ramsay Animal Clinic.

I can’t say enough great things about this vet clinic! The entire staff is kind, knowledgeable, and truly cares about the well-being of My pet. They took the time to explain everything clearly and made my pet feel comfortable and safe. The clinic is clean, well-organized, and appointment ran smooth. I trust them completely with my pet’s care and highly recommend them to anyone looking for compassionate and professional veterinary services.

I used to recommend this vet however recent experiences had made me move vet clinics. There’s been two issues recently that we’ve experienced. The first was a nail clipping where my dog either got scared or the nail was clipped too short. I was in the room and witnessed it. My dog threw her head back, like I say, either in shock or pain. Regardless, my dog hit her head against the girl doing the clipping causing her glasses to break. I apologized immediately and it was quite a shock for everyone. I then went back a few months later for vaccines. Every single employee I came across, said ‘oh this is the dog that bit our friend’. My husband then went a few months later again and the same thing happened. The employees would say it loudly in the waiting room in front of other clients. My dog didn’t bite her, and regardless of the situation there should at least by patient confidentiality. To lie clearly on the file notes and then to be so unprofessional isn’t acceptable. My dog also has a lump on her neck. I asked the vet to look at it and asked if blood tests or anything could be done to make sure it’s not anything dangerous. I was told no and the only option was to pay around $1500 to put her under and take a sample. I then asked another vet to look at it and right there and then he took a quick sample and confirmed it was a fat lump. It was also done for free.

We brought our cat Sara to the clinic as we could not get into our usual vet. We thought she needed immediate attention due to prolonged vomiting. Dr. Gupta was excellent. He ordered all the tests I had hoped he would. He also gave the immediate treatment she needed. He was very patient with all our questions. He phoned with the report from the tests and responded to my daily updates by email. On the follow up appointment he was again very patient in answering questions. I was very pleased with everything at the clinic. Thank you Dr. Gupta.

I moved out of Calgary a few months back, and just realized now that I have to find a new vet. Reflecting on the great folks at this clinic, thought I would write a review to share my experience.
Both the vets at this place were very knowledgeable, patient, and compassionate yet practical. I always felt like my best friend was in great hands, and trusted their advice. I’ve never felt like they pushed anything unnecessary on us.
My dog has always been extremely stressed out by vets, protesting and thrashing around at times. Repeated visits to this clinic, where the vets handled those situations in an extraordinarily calm and professional manner have served to lessen that response in him and made trips to the vet these days much less stressful. I have also been there with cats and they were handled equally well.
The front desk staff has always been very friendly and professional.
Thank you Ramsay Animal Clinic!

I have been coming here for 6 years with my two large dogs. Started at the previous location and happy to see that it’s grown to a nicer newer location and not too far from the previous location.
Came in for vaccinations and the staff are fantastic at sending me email reminders and communicating for all my appointments and follow ups. Always great service and accommodating friendly staff.

Frequently Asked Questions about Veterinarians in Calgary
What types of animals do veterinarians in Calgary typically treat?
While most veterinarians in Calgary are equipped to handle routine care for cats and dogs, the range of animals they treat can vary. Some practices specialize in exotic animals like birds, reptiles, and small mammals, while others focus solely on domestic pets. It’s vital to confirm the practice’s animal handling scope before scheduling an appointment, especially if you have a less common pet.
How do I choose a good veterinarian in Calgary?
Selecting a good veterinarian in Calgary involves several factors. Look for a practice with positive online reviews and testimonials. Consider their accessibility (location, parking, hours), and the practice’s philosophy regarding animal care. It's also a good idea to schedule a brief, informal "meet and greet" to assess the clinic’s atmosphere and the staff’s demeanor.
What are the common costs associated with veterinary care?
Costs for veterinary care can be unpredictable and depend on the specific services required. Routine checkups are generally more affordable than emergency or specialized procedures. Factors like the animal's age, breed, and pre-existing conditions can also affect treatment expenses. It's always a good idea to ask for an estimate before agreeing to any extensive treatment.
What is the difference between a veterinarian and a veterinary specialist?
A veterinarian completes a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree and is qualified to provide a wide range of general medical and surgical care. A veterinary specialist, on the other hand, has undergone further training and certification in a specific area like cardiology, dermatology, or surgery. Referral to a specialist is often necessary for complex or unusual cases.
What should I expect during a routine checkup?
A routine checkup typically involves a physical examination, including checking vital signs (temperature, heart rate, respiration), assessing the eyes, ears, nose, and mouth, palpating the abdomen, and checking the skin and coat. The veterinarian may also recommend preventative care, such as vaccinations and parasite prevention. It’s a good opportunity to discuss any concerns you have about your pet’s health.
What are some common emergency situations requiring veterinary care?
Common emergency situations include severe injuries, difficulty breathing, seizures, poisoning, severe vomiting or diarrhea, and sudden weakness. It’s crucial to seek immediate veterinary attention for these conditions. Many clinics offer emergency services, but it’s important to know where the nearest facility is located.
How can I prepare my pet for a visit to the veterinarian?
To help your pet feel more comfortable at the veterinarian’s office, try to keep the visit as stress-free as possible. Bring a favorite toy or blanket. Handle your pet gently and reassuringly. If your pet is particularly anxious, talk to your veterinarian about potential strategies, such as pheromones or mild sedation.
What is the importance of vaccinations for pets?
Vaccinations are a critical part of preventative healthcare for pets. They protect against potentially life-threatening diseases like rabies, distemper, and parvovirus. The veterinarian will recommend a vaccination schedule based on your pet’s age, lifestyle, and risk factors. Keeping up with vaccination schedules is vital for your pet's well-being.
What questions should I ask when choosing a new veterinarian?
When considering a new veterinarian, don’t hesitate to ask questions. Inquire about their experience, their approach to pain management, their after-hours emergency care protocols, and their philosophy on preventative medicine. It is important to find a clinic where you feel comfortable and confident in the care provided.
How can I help my pet cope with anxiety during vet visits?
Many pets experience anxiety at the vet. Techniques to help manage this include bringing familiar items like toys, using calming pheromone products, and communicating any anxieties to the veterinary staff beforehand. Sometimes, a mild sedative prescribed by the vet can be helpful, especially for pets with severe anxiety. Positive reinforcement and a gentle approach can also make a difference.
