I recently visited Pisces Exotica Pets Emporium, and I couldn’t be more impressed! The staff were incredibly knowledgeable and friendly, offering helpful advice on setting up my first aquarium. The store has a wide selection of fish, plants, and aquarium accessories, all of which are top quality. It was packed when I went here but we got a number and received great customer service. We found the fish we wanted, got some advice on food and cleaning, and looked around at all the neat animals they have. Overall, great experience. I definitely recommend this place.

The store is absolutely huge and full of everything you can imagine—fish, birds, cats, snakes, rats, and a wide variety of pet supplies. It felt like a paradise for pet lovers!

Great local find! In an effort to shop locally and not through the popular online delivery service, I found Rascals. The store was huge, everyone was so knowledgable and helpful. They spent time explaining different food options for my 18 year old senior cat with belly issues (which she is now devouring!). The prices were comparable to the big online service (identical for one product actually). There’s an incredible selection of items, and they are in a convenient location! I highly recommend, and will definitely continue to shop there!

Had a few questions about changing dog food and was super happy with the helpful and knowledgeable service I received. They also have a great choice of brands and types which is very useful.

This place is awesome. They had such a great selection, especially for my doggo who is allergic to nearly everything. I can never find decent bones or products in a protein she can have. They stock the Puppy Love brand that all my doggos enjoy, as well, let me know they could order other things in for me if needed. Plus they weren’t super annoyed or rude when I was still shopping after they closed. I definitely had the closing time wrong and they were very polite in letting me know they had closed and still rang me out with a smile. I’ll be stopping in here more often

My husband came across their store while looking for some product. Not only do they have really good prices, they are extremely helpful and friendly. We are from Edmonton and saw that they ship so we said «hey let’s try this out!» There was a glitch in the system that wasn’t allowing us to ship, but immediately they fixed it. It took less than 24 hours from the time we ordered to receiving it at our door. We will definitely use them again.

Dexter’s is one of the best higher pet food and supply stores in Calgary at the best priced.
The owner a former veterinarian is very knowledgeable, very helpful and a really nice guy.

First time we shop at Dexter and the experience is 10/10. Nice staff calling to double check the address, super convenient same day delivery, and surprise gift! BTW both our cat and dog love the chicken. Thanks!! We will keep shopping here.

TL;DR:
Had an issue with a partial refund and missing rewards. The owner called, explained it was a system glitch, confirmed the correct refund, and promised rewards will be added once fixed. Happy with the resolution and willing to shop here again.

I originally left a 1-star review due to not receiving the full refund and seeing no cashback or Frequent Buyer credit on my account. I sent a few emails and didn’t hear back, which was frustrating at the time.

Later, the owner, Drew, personally called me to explain the situation. He said there’s an ongoing software issue between ShipStation and their backend (Etailpet), which caused reward tracking and order status problems. He assured me the 5% cashback and Frequent Buyer card will be added once the system is fixed.

He also confirmed that the refund had been miscalculated and said the difference would be issued. I’ve now received the correct refund, and I appreciated him taking the time to call and clear things up.

I didn’t realize they were running the store with such a small team, so I now understand why emails can take time. It was a misunderstanding, and I’m glad it was resolved. I want to support local businesses like this and look forward to buying from Dexter’s again.

I’ve been shopping at Dexter Pet Shop for over 4 years, and I’m so grateful to the owner. My dog had severe allergies, and despite spending a lot on vets, diagnostics, and expensive food, nothing worked. The owner created a personalized feeding plan for my pet, and we followed it step by step. Since then, the allergies are completely gone! This store truly cares about pets and their health. Highly recommend!

I have been shopping here for quite a while and it is such a great spot! They always have the goodies we need, and genuinely care about their customers.

We had a little oopsie where I was sent the wrong bag of dog food (more than once). However, once Drew found out, he was quick to send my newest order out with a very kind hand-written note, and a special gift for my boy. It was such a nice touch, and both my pup and myself really appreciate it. I will continue to shop here for all my boys goodies!

Very disappointing! We’ve have been buying pet food from Dexters for years. Today they lost me as a customer.

I purchased a large bag of premium dog food last week along with some other treats for my Labrador retriever. This 4 year old lab is not a picky eater and has never not eaten her bowl of food. She was sick after eating the food for two days but I assumed it was from the other treat I bought from Dexters, a dried cow cheek. It was the first time giving her that so I assumed she was reacting poorly to it and took it away. Two days later she won’t eat her regular food from Dexters so I called to ask what to do.

I was told that if I don’t have the bag I can’t return the $120+ bag of food. The bag it comes in is not resealable so for years I’ve dispensed the food in a food grade plastic container made for dog food storage.

Dexters has a record of my purchase but told
Me I can’t return the food without the original container. Now what do I do with $120 with of bad food?

I shopped at Dexters because it’s a small local business and not a giant chain or online mega store. I would expect them to take care of customers that help take care of them and that is not the case.

Time to find another pet store.

Update: I appreciate that after my review, the store owner reached out to me and offered to refund my money. After a productive discussion it is obvious to me that owner cares enough to respond to a bad google review and make things right.

Sadly the female employee that dismissed my initial call did not try to make things right or think to bring the owner into the conversation. A coaching opportunity to improve this employee’s understanding of quality customer service will hopefully prevent future complaints and unhappy customers.

I do appreciate hearing from the owner.

I love coming to Petland to see these adorable animal friends when I’m feeling tired, they make me feel refreshed again

Came here for a birthday party and it was pretty great overall. The hour of interacting with animals was anwesome and the price was reasonable for a hosted party.

My main point of contention is the cleanliness of the party room. The folding chairs were disgustingly dirty. I brought my own Lysol wipes and tried to clean them as best I could before the party started but it was mostly futile, they are deeply grimey and I only got the bigger drips and sticky gobs off. The floor was also really gross, I think it gets swept but never mopped. The fridge had something spilled in it at one point, which was old and congealed when we went to put things in it.

Honestly, if they cleaned the floors once a week and replaced the nasty chairs with ones that are easily wiped down, it would make all the difference here.

Truly I love this location as do my dogs. I have been using the groomers here for years and never had one problem. They are fantastic and very patient with nervous or dogs with some trauma. My Maui loves going for her spa days!

Aside from being one of our preferred petland locations, I had to write a review about the amazing expierience provided by you guys. We had booked my daughters birthday with you guys, and the day of, were hit with a pretty bad snow storm. The staff member, who i unfortunately cant remember the name of, went beyond our expectations. She was very patient with our crowd, and was very inclusive to all the kids, ensuring that all the children felt included and involved. I can’t express the gratitude I have to the staff member who drove through harsh conditions, and made my daughters birthday all that special. Amazing customer service that I believe deserves to be recognized a 1000 times over. I hope petland awlnowledges their staffs commitment to guest satisfaction.

My mom and I visited this place and left pretty disappointed. From the moment we walked in, no one greeted us or acknowledged us. We noticed a cat in the playroom and wanted to interact, so we asked if someone could open the door. The staff member just said, «the playroom is closed today» with no explanation, even though there was clearly a cat inside. It felt cold and dismissive.

We’ve visited several other Petland locations and the customer service is always welcoming—staff greet you, answer questions kindly, and make the experience enjoyable. Unfortunately, this location didn’t reflect that at all.

Part of the experience of visiting Petland is getting to interact with the animals, and the lack of basic courtesy or communication here made us feel unwelcome. A simple hello or friendly explanation would’ve made a huge difference.

Great place for birthday parties! They are flexible and they have a very nice birthday room with a friedge! Other then the room, kids can enjoy to see animals around the store! Everybody made my daughter feel very special on her birthday! I, definelity, recommend this place!

My cat’s coming with me next time — he seriously needs a dog buddy.

Maple loves visiting Homes Alive Pets! I really like how they have a large selection of raw and freeze dried foods. They probably have one of the biggest selections of dog outdoor clothing/gear in the city. Prices are pretty competitive. They also have a weight scale and watering station.

Love stocking up here on the first Tuesday of every month! They have an incredible selection of things. Ever since my dog was a puppy he’s struggled with allergies and we’ve treated them through an elimination diet and Home’s Alive has always been able to cater to every dietary need he’s had. I do find the accessories and toys to be more affordable at other stores and for a store this big I sometimes feel the staff should be more knowledgeable but overall I really like it here and my pup also enjoys visiting.

I just discovered this place about a month ago. Let me tell you, I am floored by how great this store is. My go tos for pet supplies in the past had usually been Pet Valu and Petsmart. I’ve been to Pet Planet and Global Pet Food as well, which were about on par with the aforementioned two. Good enough, but nothing to write home about. Homes Alive Pets changed how I shop for my animals and opened my eyes to many brands that I didn’t know existed. It was like walking into a mini costco for pets. Brilliant. The prices are maybe slightly higher than Petsmart, about the same as the others I’ve mentioned, but the selection is second to none. The other pet stores pale. Pisces in the NE is probably second for selection, but their price tag is higher than HAP.
The staff at HAP are excellent! Super helpful and always friendly. We brought our 8 week old Chihuahua in to get a sweater, and I regret I never got the young ladies name who helped us. They didn’t have anything out that would fit our puppy, so she went in the back and looked for a solid 20-30 minutes and came back with 4 adorable options for us! Thank you, young lady, you were stellar! The other times I’ve been there, I didn’t need help but was always offered it, but an associate or two, but not in a pestering way.
The location is clean and easy to get to with ample parking.
One note is they only have supplies for dogs and cats, it appears. And cats do get a much smaller section of the store with less selection. As a cat mom of 3, I wish they had a little more, but they still have probably a similar breadth of selection as Petsmart, just with a better selection of Canadian and niche products/brands.

They have made a lifelong customer of me for sure!

Update: Still my favorite pet supply store! And an excellent policy for food product satisfaction guarantee. I’ll drive across the city just to go there. My puppy developed issues with chicken based foods, and this is the only place I’ve been able to find a decent selection of alternative protien puppy foods. Huge selection of high-quality products at fair and competitive prices The staff has always been friendly and very helpful. Sapphire and I thank you!

Home alive has upped the price of all bully sticks by at least $2.00… what a shame, they used to have competitive prices but now since they’ve been open for a year or so they are upping prices on everything to match all the other pet stores.

There were still a few bully sticks in the pile with the original price ($11.99) but all the new ones were upped to 13.99. All the bully sticks (brands and different sizes) have gone up in price now. A lot of other things in the store I noticed as well.

Very disappointing.

The store has some unique food for cats and dogs. I found it to be reasonably priced, fairly well located, service staff were very helpful.
I cannot buy the food that I bought for my cat anywhere else so I will continue to go there.
I would recommend for pet owners looking for different foods. All top quality.

Been meaning to stop in here since they opened, finally did and it will definitely be my new pet store! Everyone working was so kind and helpful, the selection and prices were by far the best in the city. Really impressed with all the brands and variety they offer. Everyone is so nice whenever my daughter or I come to get dog food/treats. They are very knowledgeable and don’t try to sell you anything you don’t ask about!

Global pet foods carry LOCAL products. Check out their MADE IN CANADA harnesses, leashes etc. Much of their pet food is locally made also. In particular, we like the ACANA brand, MADE IN ALBERTA. This is a high protein blend balanced with fruit and vegetables. If your pet seems to have gluten issues, this is a great food to try.

The staff at this location are always super helpful and very knowledgeable about what they are selling. The dog food selection is very high quality. Highly recommend. Fyi the dog groomers in the same strip mall are top notch as well.

Great store for anything I’ve ever needed, and more.

For some reason the staff won’t offer the senior discount. My mom looks 90 years old and they don’t offer it and they look suspicious when she asks for it. She’s 89!! The last female blonde cashier we had couldn’t even be bothered to bag her purchase and she had her own bag. I’m not a fan of a lazy cashier. I expect better next time or it’s our last visit. Offer the senior discount and ask for ID!

Was in a few months ago and was looking at the dog food. I was specifically looking for a dog food that stated «complete and balanced» somewhere on the bag. When a man who worked here asked if I had questions I asked about «complete and balanced» he became very short with me, and stated «well all our food is «high quality»» then proceeded to walk away. Needless to say I walked out very disappointed.

Great prices, unbelievable selection of toys, treats, food, apparel, and other things (think, paw balms, dental products, grooming supplies), not to mentioned Calgary’s best backyard birding store, we have always been offered samples and freebie treats, but the very best thing about this store are the staff- they are friendly and helpful, without being pushy, and the vibe in the store is that every customer is a valued regular.

The staff at Pet Planet are amazing. I brought Luna there today to get her fitted for a new harness and some booties and the guy that helped us was so kind and gentle and patient. It was a very positive experience for Luna, he made her feel comfortable even though it was her first visit with me in a pet store since I adopted her recently. She’s two and can be very nervouse but she did very well. And I also love that they are all natural. The other lady that also helped me here as well is great also! And I could even walk home after because of the convenient location for us!

My 2-year-old Pomeranian had started disliking her food, so I went in looking for some recommendations. Jesica was incredibly knowledgeable—she really sounded like a dog nutritionist! She knew the products inside and out and gave me several great options, along with her personal recommendations. The personalized attention she provided was amazing, and I truly felt like she cared about what was best for my dog. Jesica’s customer service skills are top-notch; she’s not only professional but also incredibly relatable. If I ever owned a business, I’d want all my employees to be as dedicated and attentive as Jesica. Highly recommend!

Atrocious living conditions. I walked in thinking I’d get to visit some rescues but these are puppy mill dogs. The animals all sit in their beds in these glass cages because if they step out they will be walking on bare bars that hurt their feet. The tinier dogs do walk on the bars but it’s apparent it hurts them. They can’t run around and play. There’s barely any sunlight. Absolutely disgusted and heartbroken. These living, loving animals deserve so much better than this. I hope they get shut down.

I want to express my happiness of purchasing my first puppy from this store. Grace my puppy advisor helped me get my first puppy. She was really patient and calm and understood our needs. I would highly recomend anyone who is wanting their first pet come to store and ask for Grace she is the best . We got maltipoo breed

I contacted this store asking if they could help with a rather unique request, my younger sister has terminal cancer, one of her bucket list wishes was to have a «puppy puddle». I recently bought a dog here, the conditions were not great. We visited the shop a handful of times and all times we were in there it always smelled like poop and old pee. Literally had to cover my nose and mouth because I couldn’t handle it. Don’t get me wrong I love my dog and wish I knew more about this store before I bought my dog. But if you buy from here be prepared to have a dog who doesn’t know how to potty train and a dog who eats their poop. I trained my dog to go potty train and stop eating her poop but the first two weeks were hard and I’m an experienced dog owner. It’s definitely different buying from an actual breeder vs buying from here. It was my first time ever buying from an actual store. I’ve talked to two other top dog customers who bought their dog here and they had the exact same issue with their dogs. The living conditions of the dogs are just not good and they don’t get the proper care that they need. They will probably reply to this review saying they do the most to care for their pups, but I’ve seen it with my own eyes they do not. Some dogs were even covered in poop. They use the same crusty towel to wipe piss on the ground and I’ve seen a puppy eating poop out of another puppy’s bum in the cage they were in. It was disgusting.

As I said in my review that they would reply to my review with some dumb excuses to show the public but go take a look at the place yourself and you will see that it’s not ideal. I’ve recently talked to multiple other people who bought their dog from top dog and they all experienced the same issues. Some have even experienced health problems, skin issues, sensitivity issues as well. For them to even say we have no history of your purchasing a dog from this store is a insane I’m not going to go out of my way and write a review if I didn’t buy a dog from you and experience these things myself. We bought our long haired mini dachshund from here.

We recently purchased our mini dachshund from Top Dog, and the experience was awesome! I appreciated the wellness follow ups to ensure Snoopy was doing great in his new home. We love our puppy and couldn’t imagine our home without him.

My dog Oakley sees Michelle for grooming and she ALWAYS does an amazing job! She puts in great care and work into making Oakley look handsome. Prices for grooming are fair, and I don’t mind spending the money to get my dog looking and smelling good. All staff are wonderful, have great customer service and kind. We also use the dog wash from time to time as well and is very convenient and clean! I definitely recommend bringing your pup in either to shop, get groomed or just get socialized.

I recently brought my senior dog, Scout (who is nearly 17 years old), to this grooming location, and I am extremely impressed with the level of care and professionalism shown. Rohda and Morgan consistently provide a warm, welcoming environment and treat Scout with genuine love and compassion. It’s clear they both have a deep understanding of the special attention older dogs require, and I always leave feeling confident that my dog is in excellent hands. Their dedication and kindness mean so much to us. I highly recommend this grooming location to anyone looking for skilled and compassionate pet care.

This is the best pet store I have visited. The staff here are all so kind, helpful, and knowledgable. Aydrean is our groomer and does a fantastic job. I can’t even pick my cat up, yet Aydrean has her talons cut in no time! I am terrible with names, and wish I could give thanks where it is due to all of the staff at this location. I had the best grooming service EVER!!! The lady that groomed my pups hair was the absolute poster child for top quality customer service. She was friendly, informative and addressed me by my name!!! Who does that now days!?!?So difficult to just get a smile and I work in customer service so I appreciated her a little extra. She gave my pup so much love and groomed him exactly as instructed and I am so, so, so picky. Thank you very much for your attention to detail and showing passion and care for what you do! Shabba loves his cut!

This is our main store that we buy our pet supplies at. Everyone who works at this location is fabulous and is like family to both of us. The customer service is above and beyond and honestly I would never go anywhere else. They take care of our needs and help with any questions we have.
