Customer Reviews
We were in Calgary for a week, exploring some of the top-reviewed restaurants the city has to offer. Sadly, Silver Dragon was a major letdown.

We ordered the Silver Dragon Special Crispy Chicken expecting something flavorful and well-executed. Instead, we were served what looked and tasted like plain deep-fried chicken — absolutely drenched in grease, with zero seasoning or flavor.

It was literally just oily chicken topped with a few shrimp crackers. No effort, no care, no taste.

Worst part was waiting 30+ minutes to receive this item, and there were only 4 other people in the restaurant during the time we went.

I wouldn’t even give this food to a dog on the street. To start, our servers took maybe 30 minutes to even give us a menu after we asked someone for it who clearly forgot to give us menus. After asking someone else, our party of 5 was given 2 menus. After they took our order, this quality of food took 45 minutes to get to us. It was the most bland food I’ve ever had and I think the sauce in the chow mein was actually gravy. This isn’t a poutine?!

In summary, for this place, you don’t simply pay for this public toilet discharge quality of food with your money but also with your time and any joy/excitement you may have had for your day. So if that’s something you’re interested in then this place is perfect for you.

I visit many restaurants and hardly ever leave reviews but my moral conscious can’t let anyone unknowingly expose themselves to this food that curses you the moment it touches your tongue

Came here for dinner with a party of five. Chinese eateries were limited in the area, so we were glad to find this one—and overall, it was an above-average experience. It was a busy Monday evening, and while service was slightly slow, the staff informed us in advance, which helped manage expectations.

The menu was extensive, and our waitress offered helpful recommendations. We ordered the roast duck, kai lan with beef, tofu with vegetables, and salted prawns. The highlight was definitely the prawns—fresh, flavorful, and conveniently deshelled, which was a pleasant bonus. Portions were generous, though we found the food slightly on the saltier side.

There was also a reasonable selection of alcoholic beverages to complement the meal. A solid option for Chinese food in the area.

A great spot for foreigners to enjoy Chinese cuisine, warmly welcomed by friendly staff. It’s mostly foreigners and locals dining here, with no Chinese customers in sight. The portions are smaller than expected, so you’ll need to order a few dishes, and the prices are a bit on the higher side. However, I highly recommend the ginger beef—it’s absolutely delicious! Also, every dim sum dish here is fantastic. I’ve been here twice: once with friends and once with family. Both times, I was very satisfied. The ginger beef is a must-try!

Stopped in for an early lunch on a recent visit to Calgary. Tried some of their dim sum and other dishes. We had their siu mai, rice rolls with fried donut, chicken feet, beef tripe, chicken congee, salted fish and chicken fried rice, and beef chow fun. Everything was very good and tasty. 2 thumbs up. Service was also very good.

The food was on the pricey side, but the good service made up for it. Unfortunately, this time, the experience was very frustrating.

We ordered steamed lingcod ($38), steamed oysters, and a veggie dish. We discussed steamed shrimp rice, but I told my partner that we had shrimp the night before, so we didn’t order it.

The oysters were good, but then the problem arose: the server tabled the shrimp rice, which we didn’t order. Apparently, the server had heard me say the name of the dish and written it down, but we didn’t really order that! Who would order four dishes for two people? Did she even think of that?

When we insisted that we didn’t order the dish, she said, «Yeah, it’s fine!» (But her tone didn’t say that.) That made us feel bad.

We kept the dish as we didn’t want to waste it, but we ended up canceling the veggie dish instead, which made our meal very heavy without any veggies.

What annoyed me most was that the fish was overcooked and not as smooth as we expected. When we gave our feedback after the meal, we received the reply from the server, «Oh really?» It was a $38 dish and the main dish of the night, and the chef had screwed it up. We didn’t really ask for anything in return, but a sincere apology would be more acceptable.

I don’t think I’ll be coming back for a long while.

Super friendly hosts, servers and cooks. We reserved for a 25 people suprise birthday and they set up the tables so fancy that it elevated our experience. They provided everything we forgot to bring and were so joyous to be around. They also helped procure a large roasted pork for an extremely cheap price compared to others, the food was amazing and great portion sizes as they normally do. Our birthday celebrant was super happy and so were the rest of the family and friends. Thank you Golden Jade!

Went on a Sunday around noon and there wasn’t a wait. You mark your order on a sheet of paper and then they bring it out to you. Dim sum was delicious. Will definitely be coming back again. Service was good but heads up that you need to flag servers down if you need anything. But overall delicious and will come back again

I recently dined at Golden Jade Palace and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of both the food and service. The ginger beef was perfectly crispy with a delightful kick, and the black bean sauce beef was rich and flavorful—definitely dishes I’d recommend. While the restaurant was a bit crowded, it added to the lively atmosphere. Despite the busyness, the staff remained attentive and friendly. If you’re in the mood for tasty Chinese cuisine, Golden Jade Palace is worth a visit—just be prepared for a bustling environment!

I recently celebrated a late birthday at this wonderful restaurant right in the heart of Panorama just today. The experience was nothing short of amazing! The staff here are truly golden – incredibly accommodating and super nice, making us feel right at home. They went above and beyond to make my birthday celebration special, which was a delightful surprise.

The food is not only delicious but also reasonably priced, making it a great spot for anyone looking for quality dining without breaking the bank. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, thanks to the super nice crew who work here. I highly recommend this place to everyone. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or just looking for a great meal, this restaurant is a fantastic choice!

I know this is literally sacrilege but I ordered from Great Taste Chinese via Uber due to the glowing reviews.

I live in the deep south, so the fact the food was still hot was quite shocking. I even apologized to the Uber driver for the making him drive so far.

Summary, worth every penny and every minute waiting. Hands down the best authentic Chinese food in Calgary, no argument to be had!!

My favourite out of everything, Shanghai noodle with chicken! Don’t get me wrong, the salt and pepper chicken and sweet and sour pork were also very good.

I even tried the roasted pepper with preserved egg, an incredible deep pepper and almost floral flavour that was unforgettable.

The menu spans many food elements and flavour/texture profiles that should be experienced by the true foodie!

I truly look forward to the day I visit in person and broaden my experience with this fine dining establishment!

Went here for a quick lunch and we ordered a few dishes for our group of 3… we had their ginger beef, fish maw soup, crispy noodles, and soup dumplings.

Overall, the food was okay—nothing extraordinary but decent enough for a casual meal. The portions were generous, which is always a plus, and the flavors were mild but satisfying. The restaurant itself has plenty of space, so even during lunch, it didn’t feel crowded or rushed, which made for a comfortable dining experience.

Came here for dinner on the weekend while visiting Calgary. Walked in and was immediately seated. Service was extremely fast and friendly throughout the meal. Started off with a hot pot of tea while looking over the menu. Menu is very large with many options from rice and noodles dishes.

For an appetizer, ordered soup dumplings and egg drop soup which came out within 5 minutes. For the meals ordered the fried noodles, beef and Chinese broccoli which was perfect for family style eating. Food came out within 10 minutes and looked and smelled great. Everything was very authentic.

There’s many places to choose in Chinatown, but you definitely won’t go wrong coming here.

First off, I need to point out that the staff were some of the friendliest people I have dealt with in a restaurant.
My family and I visited this place for the first time on Christmas Eve of 2023 and we were pleasantly surprised. Easily the best I have had (this includes Edmonton). My experience is based on the following:
– The food quality was second to none. I didn’t feel like dying after I ate a full plate. The amount of sodium or MSG was just right. Again, I felt human after I arrived home and woke up the next morning.
– The staff were working harder than anyone I have seen work on Christmas Eve. They were slammed and still managed to check on us, fill out glasses and clean the table. All while smiling and be cheerful.
– The prices. You sometimes get what you pay for and this place is a bargain. Large servings, high quality and the price is just right.

I highly recommend this place and look forward to returning.

We started going to this place because one of our friends told us this was her dad’s favorite for decades.

They have a big menu with dishes from a mixed selection of cuisines from different parts of China. Some of the dishes they offered are rare to find elsewhere. We have been here several times, and food has always been decent. Their servers are always friendly and welcoming. It is also quite spacious inside. Prices might not be the cheapest among Chinese restaurants, but some of their dishes are in big portion.

This time, I came by myself with a spicy noodle soup with beef tendon and a hot soy milk. They gave me a small bowl at the side for the noodle. I didn’t know what it was for, but they apparently were thoughtful.

Eastern Fortune Restaurant offers a truly delicious culinary experience that is well worth the visit, despite a couple of minor drawbacks. The food itself is the star of the show, with every dish we tried being bursting with flavor and expertly prepared. From appetizers to main courses, the quality and taste were consistently impressive.

However, be prepared for a bustling atmosphere. Eastern Fortune is clearly a popular spot, and it can get quite busy, especially during peak hours. This can lead to a bit of a lively (and sometimes loud) dining experience. Additionally, finding parking in the vicinity can be a challenge. It’s a good idea to factor in a little extra time to search for a spot, or consider alternative transportation if possible.

In conclusion, if you’re looking for fantastic food and don’t mind a lively environment or a bit of a hunt for parking, Eastern Fortune Restaurant is an excellent choice. The delicious dishes more than make up for any minor inconveniences.

I stopped by Eastern Fortune in Calgary recently. The restaurant felt like a classic/typical Cantonese restaurant. For food, I tried several of their items:
– Peking Duck: 7/10: Pretty good flavour but authentic peking duck pieces shouldn’t be like that (with so much meat)
– Salted Fish & Eggplant: 9/10: Quite authentic given the salted fish used (a lot of places opt for lesser or alternatives as salted fish give a stronger flavour than others, i.e. salted cod)
– Salted Egg & Tofu: 8.3/10: Good flavour and cookedness, albeit some pieces were really dry
– Strawberry Ribs. 8.5/10: Interesting dish worth trying as it’s similar to sweet and sour pork but with strawberry/jam instead and seen in HK.

Food was not bad, season to taste, Noticed they offered chinese deserts to chinese customer but denied them to non chinese customers. $21 average per plate. They didn’t realize that i understand Mandarin .

Update***
We realized the pekking duck served to us was a possibly expired duck, while our neighbors table who were chinese were served not expired duck,
Evidence based on color and bloating after the meal. Non chinese beware of this place

I had both dim sum and dinner at this place, and the food was absolutely delicious! The portions are generous, and every dish we tried was full of flavor. The huge lobster was incredibly tender and tasty. Some standout dishes included the Chili Chicken with Black Truffle, Salty Fish with Scallop, Tofu & Eggplant Hot Pot, and the House Special Fried Rice — all unique and bursting with flavor.
A must-try spot for anyone who loves great Chinese cuisine! I will really miss this place!

One of my favorite spots for authentic, traditional Chinese food. It always amazes me how they can comfortably accommodate a group of 13 at a single table—seamless and cozy without feeling crowded.

The food is consistently delicious. A standout for me is the egg yolk shrimp—perfectly cooked with large, juicy shrimp and just the right balance of richness and saltiness. That signature egg yolk flavor really shines without being overpowering.

The service is solid and efficient. You can tell they run a tight ship, and I really respect seeing the owners actively involved—coming out to help the staff and engage with customers. It shows they genuinely care about their business and the dining experience.

We have been to Golden Sands restaurant many times for both Dim sum and Dinner. Each have their own menu.
This time we went for dinner to celebrate a birthday.
My wife felt the server was very pushy when it came to ordering more food. As a result there was way too much food for 4 people. She told us to order 4 quail appetizers when 2 was more than sufficient for 4 people. We ended up taking half to food home. The fish and shrimp dishes were identical except for the meat.
We also felt that this restaurant has become one of the most expensive in the city for dinner.

The food here is so good! I came here 2 times during my trip, once for dim sum and another time for dinner. Dim sum were really good but the best dishes were during my dinner time visit. The BBQ duck was so juicy and flavourful, it’s a must try!! The lobster was so fresh and not overpriced.

Food for the most part is excellent, one of the best dim sum places in Calgary. However, it’s not super consistent. We went back to back weekends and a few of the staples, such as shrimp dumpling (ha gow) was night and day. The first weekend was excellent, thin wrappers, nice shrimp. And the next weekend, thick wrappers, chewy and questionable shrimp. But of all the times we’ve been, it’s usually pretty good. Service has been hit or miss, but overall what you’d expect. I like that you can make reservations in advance, especially with toddlers who have no patience waiting.

You would not expect such delicious food in Calgary but it is at Golden Sands. The food was perfectly cooked and seasoned. There wasn’t one dish that was subpar. Service was typical high end Chinese wedding banquet but at a typical family restaurant setting. In another word, Wonderful. The atmosphere was dated and simple but got the job done.

We visited this restaurant for dim sum on a busy Saturday lunchtime and were pleased with the experience overall. Despite the crowd, we were seated quickly and received attentive service.
We tried a variety of dishes, and the BBQ pork pastry was a standout with flaky pastry and a delicious filling. The Green Tea Cake with black sesame filling was also excellent, crisped perfectly and packed with flavour. The Prawn Rice Crepe was generously stuffed and paired well with its dipping sauce.
The Turnip Cake had a nice flavour, though the texture was a bit gooier than we’d prefer, and the Congee was tasty but slightly too salty for our liking. Unfortunately, the Tofu with salted egg was overly salty, to the point where we couldn’t finish it.
Overall, we were impressed by the quality of the food and would return, though we’d order a couple of different dishes next time.

Very Good!
We come here for dim sum very often—it’s one of the few places that still has traditional dim sum carts, which we love. But my absolute favorite thing is the tofu dessert!

Our family also comes here regularly for big family dinners. The service is fast and reliable, and they’re always happy to accommodate special requests to make sure we get exactly what we want.

Everyone at the restaurant is so kind. We’ve been coming here for over twenty years, and it still feels like home.

We went there for Dim Sum. The shrimp dumplings were very fresh. My favorite dishes were the sticky rice, chicken feet and the taro bun. The class dim sum dishes are good. The vermicelli with duck meet cooked very good. Overall, it is a great place for the dim sum.

My favourite dim sum restaurant! It’s pretty much the dim sum restaurant I grow up with in the 80s. The dim sum carts are nostalgic. They have the variety of traditional dim sum that is hard to find these days.

We went for the three courses bbq duck for $52. The duck was well made with crispy skin, along with the wraps and fresh cucumbers and green onions. The other two items; noodles and soup, were bland. After the meal, we were served fresh orange slices and sweet dessert soup. Good service and spacious restaurant.Washrooms dated.

I’ve been going here for years, always such a good meal. If you’re looking for great Chinese food especially the ginger beef, you need to try Cherry Inn! The staff is so friendly and once the owner gets to know you, he takes time out his busy day to ask how things are going, how your family is etc.

We have been searching for a great Western style Chinese place in Calgary and going on the strength of the reviews we tried this place.

The service was great and the food was quick to come out of the kitchen, which is surprising with how busy the restaurant was.

The food, we had vegetable fried rice, which sadly fell very flat and was basically tasteless with some of the vegetables not even being cooked long enough to be warmed up and were still cold right from the kitchen.

Stir fried vegetables, which again had very little flavor and once again the vegetables were under cooked, but at least they were warm.

Sweat and sour pineapple chicken. I’ll give it points for sweet, but didn’t taste any sour in the 8 or 9 pieces I tried before moving on.

House special chow mein, well down with lots of flavor, the noodles and meat were cooked to perfection, while the source complimented the dish nicely.

Maybe we ordered wrong based on all of the other reviews so we will be back again and sample other dishes. Hopefully we can be converted.

I’ve been going to Cherry Inn for about the past 10 years for lunch and it has never disappointed. There’s great variety in the lunch menu with single a la carte items or my go to is the lunch combo where you get a wonton soup, choice of fried or plain rice, chow mein or Shanghai noodles along with your choice of two entree items for $15.50

I’m generally a bit over full but happy. There’s ample parking but the restaurant has limited seating so make sure you get there before noon!

We came here on two occasions and found our experience differed quite a bit, so our overall rating would be between 2.5-3 stars.

Our first visit was not too bad, other than a number of items being unavailable. I especially enjoyed the rice crepes, which were soft and portion sizes are very decent. The pan fried chicken buns were also a good size. They give you prawns, not shrimps, in the snow pea leaf and shrimp dumplings which had a soft skin.

On our last visit, the staff was very rude and the food was not good. We were told to sit at a tiny table behid a pillar that wasn’t even clean despite there being many other tables available. The siu mai tasted off and gave him some issues after. Again, there were a number of items that were unavailable.

Dinner reservation’s recommended, the restaurant fills up fast. The noodles were bland, the egg yolk shrimp and salt and Pepper squid were not deep fried enough. The «wok» wasn’t hot enough… if you know what I mean. It would have been better but it’s still good. The service was quick.

Been here few time before, and the dim sum was excellent. Unfortunately this visit wasn’t as positive. The sui mai ( my favorite) tasted old. I had to send this dish back. Seems it was a bit spoiled. The beef ball was also not as good as it use to be. I’m not sure if it was a bad batch of meat, or different chef. The server did say there was no change in kitchen staff though. The shrimp rice roll was still excellent. Singapore noodles good portion and tasty. This restaurant is very loud, even though it’s not very busy. Service is always good though. Hope food improves, as I enjoy having dim sum here.

This restaurant is one of the first Chinese ones we’ve been too. We know lots of people who go here so they recommended it to us. Inside it’s a bite tight meaning they have a lot of tables and not much space, but I guess they want to accomodate as much as possible. Very nice staff and service was great. Polite servers. We ordered salt and pepper squid, ginger beef mild, special rice and some vegetables. The salt and pepper squid is out of this world good!!! Really tasty, light and fluffy batter that was crispy but soft inside and the squid was cooked to perfection. Wasn’t rubbery at all. The ginger beef was not my favorite but it was still delicious. A bit too sweet in my opinion. Vegetables were a bit bland but went well as a side dish. And the special rice was really delicious as well. Overall very great experience and will definitely be back for the squid and to try some new dishes as well.

Service could be better, especially when the restaurant is not even busy. When and if the waitress couldn’t multitask, I think, at the very least, they could acknowledge the customers when they walk in. After we were seated, it took a while before she brought over the menus, even though there were only 4-5 customers present. Overall, not only the service was slow, but the staff was not courteous when asked for basic things like refills. We have been at countless restaurants that were way busier and never had to ask for such simple things. The staff just knew to bring tea, water, or extra napkins when appropriate.

Ordered delivery, first time trying.. we were not disappointed! I am always looking for great Chinese food after my brother in law sold their restaurant a few years back. Its been impossible, until now! The salt & pepper squid could be a tad spicier for my liking but the crunch and taste was amazing! Ginger beef & Shanghai noodles were so good as well! No complaints!

I’ve tried my fair share of Chinese restaurants, but here they consistently risen above the rest to become my absolute favorite. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere, and the staff is always friendly and attentive. But the real reason I keep coming back is the food – it’s simply outstanding.
Every dish I’ve tried has been a testament to the chef’s skill and dedication to authentic Chinese flavors. Their salt and pepper squid is a perfect balance of salt, spice, and fresh. You can tell that they use high-quality ingredients and take pride in their cooking.
What truly sets them apart is the consistency. I’ve been here numerous times, and the food is always just as delicious as the last time. The portions are generous, the prices are reasonable, and the service is always top-notch. It’s the perfect place for a casual weeknight dinner or a special occasion. Whether I’m dining in or ordering takeout, I’m always impressed with the quality and flavor of the food. If you’re looking for a truly exceptional Chinese dining experience, look no further. It’s my go-to, and I highly recommend it.

Tasted awesome! We ordered Chinese sausages fried rice, lean ground pork with green beans in spicy sauce, and fish fillets and tofu hot pot. The English translation might not be the best way to describe how they taste. The fried rice is actually a Hong Kong style fried rice with a lot of crunchy mild dried spices sprinkled on top of the fried rice.

Overall they cooked the way we wanted. It also comes with free Chinese soup at the beginning and free dessert at the end! Love them! Glad that they open late as well, 10pm. Will be back for dinner again!
