5-Star Review for Checkers Cabs – Calgary I was visiting Calgary from Toronto and tried a couple of different taxi companies in the city. The experience with most of them was borderline non-satisfactory. Then I decided to give Checkers Cabs a try — and wow, what a difference. Both drivers I had (from the airport to my hotel, and then back to the airport) were exceptional. I wish I remembered their names because they truly stood out for their professionalism and friendly attitude. The service was smooth, reliable, and stress-free. Also, I really appreciate the classic yellow cabs — it actually feels like you’re in a real taxi, unlike the plain white cars some companies use. Great company, great service. Highly recommend.

Atrocious customer service/administration. Absolutely NOT what you want to deal with when you're stranded. The ONLY reason this isn't a one-star review is because the cab driver was kind, punctual, and knowledgeable. I didn't catch the booking agent's name but she should be put under performance review. (Order # and cab # listed below). I started the call specifying the quadrant of the city I was in, then provided the name of the establishment that I was at. Unfortunately, I didn't have the address but mentioned that it was north of a key intersection that I could see. I expected some troubleshooting to be necessary, so that wasn't a problem. What was a problem was that she disregarded the name of the establishment that I was at, demeaned me for failing to mention that I was a few blocks north of the key intersection and not providing the closest intersection (which was virtually impossible for me to know as I was in a commercial district with abnormal blocks), then mocked me for not being able to confirm the number I was calling from (I had a loaner cell phone from work). Under the best of circumstances, this likely would be frustrating but manageable. However, being stranded as I was, and as many cab users are, this was completely overwhelming. I don't expect others to know what's going on in my life, I just expect basic common courtesy and baseline respect from customer service representatives. Bonus information: my lovely cab driver mentioned that it had been very slow today so the hostility directed at me is not likely due to an overwhelming number of bookings. The company should know their drivers are trying to charge $50 from one place downtown to another place downtown and won’t let customers into the cab until you tell them where you need to go and refusing service. Thankfully one driver did not do that but many of them are scamming clients and the business. I have a video of who.

Subject: Complaint Regarding Cab #1577 – Unprofessional and Inappropriate Behavior Dear Checker Cabs Calgary, I would like to bring to your attention a highly unpleasant experience I had with one of your drivers, operating cab number 1577. While I understand that this does not reflect the behavior of all Checker Cabs drivers, the conduct of this particular driver was unacceptable and deeply unprofessional. • The driver was rude and arrogant throughout the trip. • He refused to use his own GPS or device for navigation, and instead insisted on using my phone to access directions. • Despite having the map displayed, he repeatedly asked my colleague for directions, which made the ride stressful and frustrating. • While using my phone, I received a private message, and I caught the driver trying to read it — a serious invasion of privacy. • Near the end of the ride, before we even arrived at our destination, he demanded that I sign the taxi chit, which already had information filled in — without waiting for the final metered fare. • His driving was poor, adding to the discomfort and lack of professionalism displayed. I believe this kind of behavior should not be tolerated, and I urge you to take appropriate action to ensure future passengers do not have to go through the same experience. In today’s highly competitive transportation landscape, one would expect a legacy taxi company like Checker Cab to evolve with the times. Unfortunately, that is far from the case. They continue to operate as though we're still in the 1970s, yet express confusion over the dramatic shift in customer preference toward modern, efficient platforms like Uber. This morning, I called Checker Cab. After being subjected to five minutes of blaring hold music, an agent finally answered and booked my ride. Shockingly, 30 minutes later, no cab had arrived. Upon calling back, I was told there was no record of the booking at all. As a result, I was late for an important appointment. If you have somewhere critical to be, do not rely on them. Their service is only suitable for short trips—perhaps to the washroom.

Had a really good experience with cab #761, it was a mini van in good shape. Driver was safe and was very engaging. Hands down, one of the best cab rides we have taken and we travel all over Canada for a living. He was an older gentleman with years of driving experience. You have a real gem there .
