Best place to get gifts and souvenirs…lots of unique and cool things to choose from. Super cute stationary and kitchen stuff, amazing greeting card collection, planters, puzzles, mugs, books, journals, candles, aesthetic decor, jewellery, stampede things, funny socks, carpets. I always find something which I didn’t even know I’d like so much haha. Go to the store, website doesn’t have all the items listed. Prices are on high end, but definitely worth it for a few things which you don’t find anywhere else in the city.

Found it a bit on the pricey side—noticed a few items that are available for less elsewhere. That said, the staff was really sweet and the collection is lovely.

What a fun little spot!

Was walking around the neighborhood with my partner after being at the nearby Lilac festival during the day.

She was after a gift for her nephew. Something called a JellyCat. I don’t know what the heck that is but they seem pretty popular and this place had a fair few of them.

While we were browsing, a lovely staff member approached us and asked if our dog would like a treat. We said yes and she came back a moment later with something for her. Thanks!

This ain’t a spot to go if you’re looking for a bargain I guess. The prices are that of a trendy gift shop like this. Nothing is cheap but it’s also not trying to be.

Cool store! I’m sure we will pop in time and again when we are in the hood.

A week ago, I was under a lot of stress. My world had turned inside out as I called over 30 stores across three different countries in search of an elusive, chubby little Jellycat plushie. I was in a full-blown existential crisis. I don’t think you understand just how stressed I was about this plushie. And they weren’t even gifts. They were for me.

I thought all hope was lost… until this glorious establishment swooped in like a retail guardian angel and plucked me from the abyss.

Let’s be clear: I had scoured the earth. I had spoken to store clerks on different continents who barely humored me, others who outright dismissed my plight, and one who sounded like they were contemplating their own career choices after my desperate inquiry. But then, like a beacon of hope in a cruel, Jellycat-deprived world, Steeling Home answered my call. And they didn’t just answer—they listened. They understood. They delivered. And let me tell you, the level of customer service was nothing short of divine. The associate was kind, helpful, and gentle, handling my distress with the care of a seasoned therapist.

Not only did they have the coveted Jellycat Bees in stock (a miracle in itself), but they also shipped them out RIGHT AWAY, accompanied by a friendly email thanking me and letting me know to reach out if I had any more questions or concerns. Shipping from Calgary to Edmonton was $20, and while normally I would care, I didn’t blink twice. They had these cotton-stuffed hooligans in stock, and that’s all that mattered. Originally, I only wanted one, but at this point, my need for them had reached an all-time high. I liked and wanted these bees so badly. I worked so hard, searched high and low, so I almost ordered 14. But I settled with 2, after my best friend told me that was too many bees.

I placed my order on Friday, and by Monday, they had landed in my arms. I tore open the package like my life depended on it, which, let’s be real, it kind of did.

To say they saved my life is an understatement. What they did was restore my faith in humanity. Thanks to them, I now have two adorably round and floofy bees to cherish, and my soul has been healed. If I could, I would name my firstborn after this store. Instead, I’ll settle for writing this review.

If you are ever in need of impeccable service or just a store that treats your requests with the respect they deserve, Steeling Home is the place to go. 11/10. I would sell my soul for them. In fact, I might already be scouting for my next Jellycat conquest. These bees were just the bee-ginning.

A lovely place to find Japanese goodies. Mainly house hold items but you will find gifts and other products you can bring with you, from tea packets to little figurines to a few different shirts and bowls.

We found the store to be very clean and organized. The products are easy to view and handle. The owner was very welcoming and very nice and helpful!

If you’re new to area, there is public parking but you will have to pay. Parking is very tight and limited depending on the time of day.

Would recommend coming here!

UPDATE: Nanao Kimono is still my wife’s go-to for premium green tea.

We found this hidden gem last year. We were looking for good quality matcha leaves and this place was selling them.

The matcha leaves sold here were definitely high quality and we can really taste the difference. Since then, we have been back regularly when we run low.

The owner is friendly and very accommodating. He has always tried to go above and beyond to help us get the product we need. In the past he has even given us products to try. He is also very knowledgeable about the stuff he sells. Yet he isn’t arrogant and is very patient.

Definitely worth supporting local!

First off, I would like to acknowledge Joriko for the beautiful thank you note that they wrote for me by hand. That is so sweet.

Secondly, I just want say that the noren are beautiful. Here’s a picture of one of them hanging in the entrance to our deck and back yard. I’m not sure if you can see it properly but the noren looks beautiful with our Japanese Maple standing in the background.

I had an excellent experience at Moonstone Creations. The person who helped me was so friendly and knowledgeable. They took the time to show me around, to speak with me about the different crafts, and to show me all of the beading supplies with great detail. I purchased the poppy beading kit and was so happy with it. I’ve never ever beaded before and, with the excellent instructional video, was able to make a beaded poppy brooch that I am quite proud of. I highly recommend Moonstone Creations, as well as their beading kits. Thank you for such an excellent experience!

A unique selection from masters who are connected to nature and ancient traditions. There’s no aggression in the offerings. You’ll find a chic choice of singing bowls and a good variety of ponchos and jewelry. The positive vibrations in the space and surrounding products are truly delightful. Prices are reasonable. The collection is not just for enthusiasts; there’s also a great range of souvenirs, including items for kids. Thanks Steve!

I wish to relay my sincere thanks. I had recently lost my khata on a business trip. It had been presented to me by rinpoche several years ago when I took my Buddhist precepts. Today, when I was shopping in the store for a new one I was gifted a replacement by Manana’s kind soul owner. His only request was that I pass on the kindness to others. I was deeply moved by his gesture of kindness. It showed me that the motivation of his endeavour truly revolves around improving the welfare of all beings. Blessings and gratitude to you!

I am so in love with this shop. The owner is a kind hearted gentleman, I’ve had great chats with him while shopping. When you shop here set aside a good hour or so, there are so many items to look at. It’s a warm inviting environment inside. If you have that one friend who is a hard one to shop for, shop here there is something for everyone!
It was my daughter’s fourth birthday, and grandma and grandpa sent some money for her to spend, I didn’t think twice about taking her here, it was so much fun!

Steven was extremely patient and very knowledgeable as somebody new to buddhist practice. The store offers authentic and affordable products which help allow a very approachable gateway into practice. When I asked a question unrelated to his business, and more broadly with personal practice, he gave scholastic advice with free, accessible resources, without any hesitation.

This is paired with the fact that he’s also just an interesting dude ((his business card is on a Nepalese rupee, super cool)) which made the experience very fun and enjoyable

Thank you Mañana, I’m looking forward to my next visit

I feel so spoiled to have this store in downtown, a short walk from work! Shelly is very passionate and knowledgeable about fountain pens and notebooks. The collection is small, but well curated. Shelly has shown me many great products I would have never discovered on my own.

This shop is a must visit in Calgary if you’re into pens and stationary. The store is small, but has a well-curated selection of excellent quality pens, inks and paper, plus some cool gifts. Shelley knows her stuff, and the service is excellent.

Wonderful store with amazing customer service! I ordered online to prepare for our trip to Calgary. Unfortunately one of the items I ordered was incorrectly inventoried as in stock when it was in actuality unavailable. Shelly immediately responded to me via email to let me know of the error and offered to allow me to order it when it was back in stock with complimentary shipping. When I got to the store to pick up my remaining items, I was greeted with familiarity and had a pleasant little chat. I definitely will continue to visit this shop, either online or in person, even though its location is somewhat difficult (being in the busy downtown area) since there is such a wonderful selection of imported fountain pen inks and the amazing and friendly customer service. I highly recommend this store to any fountain pen enthusiast, if you are in or visiting the Calgary area!

What a treat it was to visit this little store! The owner is very passionate and knowledgeable about pens and inks, and will let you test out fountain pens so you can get a feeling for what sort of nib suits you. She’s created swatches of the many inks she carries, which is so much better than trying to guess how they’ll behave by looking at the colour on the box. The store is full of lots of quality items. A great place to find a gift or to spoil yourself!

This place is amazing. There’s stiff competition in this town for stationery stores with Reid’s and Recess. However, I really think the service and pen selection are what sets this place apart. I came in today and asked to dip test a Lamy 2000. The owner didn’t hesitate to pull one out and let me test it, despite the fact that this can be a frustrating pen to clean after dip testing. I bought the Lamy 2000 minutes later and I stayed to chat. The service was exceptional.

Now the pens… No one carries pens like this place. Period. The selection is amazing and the owner never hesitated to let me try out a pen or hold this or look at that. It’s difficult to run a brick and mortar store these days when shopping online is so convenient. But service like this place offers makes shopping in-store painless.

Come and chat. You’ll love it. If it’s fine writing pens or service you’re after this is the place.

Love this small biz of entrepreneurs and creatives. Vintage goods and clothing by Sisters of Prairie Bazaar and lifestyle goods by Strawberry Boots are the main curators, while 30+ other local artisans have their handmade goods for sale there too. Handmade stuff toys, jewelry, decor, gifts, etc. They empower the community with the spirit of accessibility, opportunity and supporting local ! So glad to be a part of their location with some painted window art.

Frequently Asked Questions about Souvenir Shops in Calgary

What kinds of souvenirs are typically found in Calgary souvenir shops?

Calgary souvenir shops generally stock items reflecting the city’s identity and surrounding region. You're likely to find Alberta-themed clothing like hoodies and t-shirts, local artwork, handmade crafts, and gifts featuring the Calgary Tower or the Rocky Mountains. Common finds also include Indigenous art and crafts, Alberta-shaped magnets, and novelty items related to the Calgary Stampede.

Where are some popular areas to find souvenir shops in Calgary?

Several areas in Calgary are known for their concentration of souvenir shops. Stephen Avenue Walk is a popular destination, featuring a mix of shops and restaurants. Tourist hotspots near the Calgary Tower and Scotsman's Hill also offer a good selection. You can often find smaller, unique shops near major attractions or along the city's main thoroughfares.

How much do Calgary souvenirs typically cost?

The cost of Calgary souvenirs can vary significantly based on the type of item and its quality. Small, mass-produced items like magnets and keychains usually cost between $5 and $15. Clothing items and higher-quality crafts can range from $20 to $50 or more. Handmade items and those featuring local artists are often priced higher.

Are there souvenir shops that specialize in Indigenous crafts?

Yes, Calgary has several shops that specialize in Indigenous crafts. These shops typically feature authentic artwork and crafts from various First Nations communities. It’s essential to choose shops that are known for their ethical sourcing and support Indigenous artists directly. Look for shops with clear information about the artists and the origin of the crafts.

What is the best time of year to visit souvenir shops in Calgary?

While souvenir shops are open year-round, the peak season is generally during the summer months (June-August) and around the Calgary Stampede (July). You'll find a wider selection and often special promotions during these times. Visiting during the shoulder seasons (spring and fall) can offer a less crowded experience.

Are there any souvenir shops that offer personalized items?

Some souvenir shops in Calgary offer personalized or custom-made items. This could include engraved keychains, custom-printed t-shirts, or other unique gifts. If you’re looking for a particularly special souvenir, it’s worth checking with individual shops to see if they offer personalization services. Plan ahead, as customization may require extra time.

Most souvenir shops in Calgary accept a range of payment methods. You can usually pay with cash, credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express), and debit cards. Some shops may also accept mobile payment options like Apple Pay or Google Pay. It's always a good idea to have cash on hand for smaller purchases.

How can I distinguish between genuine and mass-produced souvenirs?

Distinguishing between genuine and mass-produced souvenirs can sometimes be challenging. Look for signs of handmade quality, such as unique imperfections or variations. Check for information about the artist or maker. Be wary of items that are priced significantly lower than similar items, as this may indicate lower quality or mass production. Ask questions about the origin of the product.

Do souvenir shops offer any discounts or promotions?

Many souvenir shops offer discounts or promotions, especially during seasonal sales or holidays. Some shops may offer student or senior discounts. It’s always a good idea to ask if there are any current specials or promotions available. Keep an eye out for signs advertising sales or clearance items.

What is the best way to find smaller, unique souvenir shops?

To find smaller, unique souvenir shops, explore beyond the main tourist areas. Look for shops in older neighborhoods or along less-traveled streets. Check local directories and online reviews for hidden gems. Talk to Calgary residents – they often know about the best-kept secrets for finding unique and authentic souvenirs.
