I can’t say enough good things about my experience working with Christine at Jensen Fitness!
I have been working with Christine virtually for over a year now and have learnt so much from her. I love having all of my workouts planned out and personalized for me, all I had to do was show up to the gym and execute.
Having Christine as a coach has made it easy to stay accountable and complete my workouts every week. Christine is so prompt in answering questions, and is incredibly experienced and knowledgeable when it comes to fitness and diet.
When I started the program, I was 6 months post hip surgery and I credit Christine’s coaching and personalized programming for helping me recover. With Christine’s help I now feel stronger than ever – we have built muscle, improved my flexibility and mobility, improved my posture and lost fat.
I also had a great experience working with their dietician. Christine and Rachelle had a very balanced approach to food and I never felt hungry or deprived. I’m now equipped with some healthy, easy meals that I continue to reach for.
Thank you so much Christine for helping me create a sustainable, healthy lifestyle. I’m so happy with the results I have seen and am excited to continue working with Jensen Fitness in the future!

I completed 3 months of personal training with Nick and it was well worth the time and money. I came into the process having very little experience working out and wanted to learn how to properly utilize weights and equipment. Nick was so great and making me feel comfortable and demonstrating the proper form and cues of each exercise, and in a way that I still remember how to do them even after completing my training! I highly recommend this facility and Nick as a trainer as I was able to achieve my goal of feeling confident going to the gym with a tailored exercise routine.

I have been going to Jensen Fitness for about 2 weeks now and I couldn’t recommend them enough!
Coming from someone who consistently was doing cardio and not eating properly I had no idea how to properly fuel my body and effectively work out through strength training. With the help of Olenka, I have already started feeling more confident in my strength training and look forward to going to the gym! She is personable, always has an amazing energy that puts me at ease during my workouts while also pushing me to do more than I thought I was capable of 🙂
Rachelle’s meal plans have also been amazing as I feel so much more full and energized before and after my workouts and throughout the rest of the day.
I absolutely love Jensen Fitness and look forward to continuing to learn and grow throughout my fitness journey!
Kassidy Kisil (☆ 5/5)

When I started with Christine I was a menopausal mess. I had zero energy, I wasn’t sleeping and I could eat lettuce for lunch and gain 10 pounds by dinner. I had tried everything (on my own) to try to breakout of the downward spiral but nothing helped.
I found Jensen Fitness through a Google search, was encouraged by the amazing reviews and started an incredible journey to healing and feeling so much better.
Not only did I have an amazing trainer in Christine but I also also had the support of a registered dietitian. What a team, they have taught me so much about how to train and support that training with personalized meal plans.
Thanks to Rachelle and Christine, I now have a better relationship with food (I don’t run screaming from carbs) and I have so much energy to maximize my workouts and feel energized after. I also sleep so much better.
I am so very glad that I found Christine and Jensen Fitness, the support has been amazing and the whole experience has been life changing.

My wife started training at Jensen Fitness around 2 months ago. She has made so many great strides towards improving her overall fitness and health. Her and her trainer Olenka have created an amazing partnership in the gym. I feel that that is key for the success, she has motivated her and has made it comfortable in an environment that previous to this experience was very uncomfortable. The biggest thing I notice is when she looks at herself in the mirror I see the self confidence within her at an all time high. After watching her struggle with the public gym route I knew this was a great fit for her. I joined in on the initial consult and we felt comfortable as soon and we walked in their facility. I’m so proud of my wife for taking the leap into Jensen, this has been an amazing experience and that’s thanks to the owners, staff and especially her trainer Olenka.
Marc Sciarra (☆ 5/5)

I’ve been a member since mid-January and have noticed a significant change in strength, fitness and energy. I’m sleeping better, mostly due to Sophia kicking my butt each work out, but she also takes care of my injuries and limitations, and she finds ways to work around them safely without causing further injury. I would highly recommend Jensen if you are looking for work outs with great trainers and to have a complete nutrition component as an add on option also with Rachelle, the awesome dietitian.
All the trainers at Jensen are excellent and each one has been absolutely great, Sophia, Brody, Olenka, Serhii and Evan. I have all trained with each one and they are all knowledgeable, professional and exceptional trainers.
Great place to work, check Jensen out the next chance you get!!!!
Christine McLennan (☆ 5/5)

Hey Everyone!
I’m not sure whether to give Jensen a terrible review or an amazing one! I want to tell you all it’s terrible so we can keep the gym all to ourselves… BECAUSE ITS SO AWESOME!
Have you ever walked into a gym without any idea what to do? Or maybe you had a specific workout you wanted to try but the machines you need are all busy with other people?
We have… Jensen removed all that uncertainty for us. It’s amazing to show up and have a workout already selected for the day AND the only other people in the gym are being trained by the staff… No more mental energy spent on planning what to do or if you’re even doing it right!
(PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU’RE DOING IT RIGHT OR YOU’LL HURT YOURSELF!)
Our Story:
We started training here in March 2022 with Keana (who is also a Kenisiologist). Right from the start she’s been so professional and also personal. She’s been so great at helping us continually reach new workout goals and live the lifestyle we want to live so that when we get older we are still fit!
Each workout is tailer made for us as individuals based on our goals and bodies. Keana is great at setting up workouts that are enough routine to enjoy but different enough that your body doesn’t always do the same motions day in and day out.
When we started here my heaviest bench press was just around 150lb, I’m now over 200lb!
I’ve also swapped over 10lb of fat for muscle and feel great!
We definitely recommend you take the plunge and go with Jensen Fitness and Keana. We can’t say enough about them.

CrossFit Sunalta is hands-down one of the best boxes in Calgary. The coaches are knowledgeable, motivating, and always prioritize proper form and safety. The programming is well-balanced with a good mix of strength, conditioning, and skill work. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a solid CrossFit gym in the city!
Venky Talluri (☆ 5/5)

I was completely new to CrossFit and had been curious for a while. I was initially intimidated about trying a class, but I decided to take the dive. I was relieved to find the atmosphere extremely welcoming and friendly, not just from coaches but from fellow members. Big shout out to coach Greg from whom I’ve learned so much from about proper form and managing intensity. It’s been really fun learning new skills and lifts from him that I never thought I could do. Thank you coaches Greg, Lise, and Calder for making my CrossFit experience so fulfilling.
Justin Kang (☆ 5/5)

Had a super experience training with the team at CrossFit Sunalta whilst abroad! A great gym to train at. As someone who trains for fitness and self defence—and not to go pro—I can say the gym caters to all levels. The environment fostered here is very safe and friendly, yet also has the coaching staff to allow you to go farther and to the pros if that’s something you desire. The coaches also do a great job at making everyone feel like they belong. As a Sikh man with a turban, I’ve never felt othered by any of the coaches or staff, and genuinely feel welcome in the space. Price is also very fair for the amount and quality of training you will receive. The lack of contracts is another great plus, and they even allow for pauses in membership if you’re unable to attend for an extended amount of time. I’d recommend this gym to anyone, whether you’re trying to get fit, learn self-defence skills, add to your workout regime, or fight professionally.
Arjan Singh (☆ 5/5)

This was my son’s first time attending summer camp at Champions Creed, and I can’t say enough good things about it! From the moment we signed up, everything was smooth and well-organized. Before the camp started, I was impressed by the clear and detailed communication. Parents received an agenda outlining each day’s activities, and text reminders for special activities like swimming. The ability to text message the staff with questions was a bonus for me and no other camp has done similar.
My son had an amazing time, and it’s all thanks to the wonderful staff. According to him, the counselors were fair but firm, and above all, they were fun.
I want to give a special thanks to Jen, who was always responsive and helpful with any questions I had. PJ also deserves a shout-out—he was professional, mature, and took the time to answer all of my questions. My son also mentioned how nice PJ was. And of course, the incredible coaches—Landon, Nick, and JJ—were fantastic with the kids.
One thing I really liked was the excellent staff-to-child ratio. It gave me peace of mind, especially during the swimming outings, knowing that the kids were well-supervised.
Overall, this was one of our best camp experiences after trying several others around the city. I’ll definitely be booking more weeks next year and highly recommend Champions Creed to any parent looking for a great summer camp.
S T (☆ 5/5)

My son loves the big champs program!
He’s excited to go and see his coaches and get out all of his pent up energy! I love that you have the option to bring the kids in every day at the same time if you wanted to! When my littler kids are old enough we will be enrolling them as well.
Friendly staff and love watching the confidence grow
Lyss Tetley (☆ 5/5)

I’ve been training at Champion’s Creed for about 4 years now, and it’s by far the best gym I’ve trained at in the city. World-class coaching, great training partners, and many opportunities for learning and growth. I would and have recommended it to anyone who’s thinking about training martial arts.
Brayden Smith (☆ 5/5)

Not the most hygienic place out there. They cram almost 100 people with bad hygiene in a small area and they all sweat on each other. Told my buddy to stay away from this gym, but he didn’t and ended up with really bad skin infection. Although they probably clean the mats everyday, the place is still extremely dirty. If you don’t want ringworm and staph infection stay away.
Happy Hive (☆ 1/5)

I did Champions Rise 5 month MMA training camp. It was a best jump start to, I hope, a lifelong love of martial arts. The team there is absolutely stellar. You have the best skilled individuals working their hardest pushing you furthest. You do feel, look and have the confidence of a real fighter by the end.
A chance to be in the cage fighting your first mma fight with crowds cheering is a cherry on top. This is an experience of a lifetime. Don’t miss out, I promise – just seeing your own progress alone is so worth it
Anastasiya Sivkova (☆ 5/5)

Want to learn martial arts. Maybe just get in a great workout. These guys can get you sweating AND have you learn something new. I was a beginner but they also train very experienced martial artists. Location is great and full of interesting… everything. Equipment. Photos and miscellaneous stuff.

First time trying Fithouse was a Saturday INFERNO class. The instructor was super helpful, giving a tour of the gym & a rundown of what the class would look like beforehand.
The class itself was excellent – a mix of weights and rowing. It was challenging and effective. Definitely felt the burn the next day.
Highly recommend!
Brecklin S (☆ 5/5)

I visited Fithouse while I was on a business trip to Calgary and I had a wonderful experience! I felt very welcomed, even from my first inquiry email! Graham (the coach who led my BUILT class) was very knowledgeable and coached me very well through my movements. My classmates were kind and helpful as I navigated a new gym. Also, the facilities were gorgeous! Very clean and well kept! Thank you Fithouse! I will be returning!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ **Hands down, the BEST CrossFit Team you’ll ever find!**
From the moment I stepped into the gym, I felt the electric energy and positivity radiating from everyone. The people here are incredible—relentless in pushing you to your limits but always with a smile and tons of encouragement! They’ve mastered the perfect balance of challenging you and making it fun.
If you’re looking for a place where you’ll be pushed to achieve your personal best while having an absolute blast, this is THE CrossFit team to join!
Kendra Hollos (☆ 5/5)

I fell in love with FitHouse at my first visit! Everyone was super inclusive and welcoming, which is something Im looking for as I go to the gym everyday… They had a Challenge starting and Dave, one of the co-owner, kinda sold me on it right away, and I’m super thankful he did help me with that decision. 🙂 All of their coaches are incredibly competent and helpful, the gym-goers are friendly and encouraging, and well the facility is one of the best I’ve seen, from an amazing space to impeccable cleanliness. Highly recommend if you are a new or seasoned Crossfitter or if you like High Intensity Training.

I recently dropped into this gym during a visit to see my family and had such a great experience. The coaches are so knowledgeable and professional, running a well structured warm up for each class. The space is big and has plenty of equipment to go around. The programming is great and varied and the members were so welcoming. I have been doing CrossFit for ten years and would highly recommend this gym to anyone. I will definitely be back, thanks so much!

Had an absolute blast at the gym. The coach I had for my intro class was very helpful in ensuring all members kept themselves safe with proper form but also encouraging you to push yourself. I used to CrossFit a lot but I am finding it a bit out of my budget at the moment otherwise I would definitely be signing up ️

My wife and I went to this CrossFit for 6 months when we were in Calgary. This is the best CrossFit we have been to (tried many others for years). Very clean, respectful coaches that care about your forms/technique and guide you to be better. Will recommend this gym over any other.

I have been a member for about a year now and this place is great! Ownership and coaches are fantastic and it shows with the whole gym community vibes being terrific.
Lots of support from the coaches for people of all levels of fitness, whether you are brand new or more experienced they have you covered.

I’ve recently started coming to this gym and I love it. The coaches are very attentive and are always trying to help you achieve your best. The building is clean, the equipment is kept in great shape, you can bring your kids and dogs, and it’s woman owned. I highly recommend coming here!
Update, it’s been a couple years and I still love coming to this gym. The community is great and the facility keeps adding more features and services! Definitely recommend trying it out

5 years ago I was on the search for a new gym when our last one closed. We were in their area and saw a cute dog hanging out in the lobby so we decided to check it out. Little did we know how much of an impact that decision would have in our lives. My physical health and strength is the best it’s ever been and continues to improve every day. But what keeps me coming back is the friendship and laughs I get at every class. Whether it’s commiserating after a tough workout or playing a fun game of medicine ball ticktacktoe before our Saturday partner workouts, I know I’m going to leave physically and socially fulfilled. If you’re just starting out, a CrossFit expert, or anything in between, Bedrock is for you!
Jeanelle d'Eon (☆ 5/5)

Definitely the best place to CrossFit for me. All the coachs and peoples are really nice, there’s a special amazing community here. So glad i can be there and be part of it. Thanks to everyone and especially thanks to the owner Amanda to make these possible.

I was really nervous to join a gym for the first time after only ever working out at home, but everybody at CrossFit Elevate is so welcoming and friendly that I can’t imagine not going here now! The coaches are all incredible and make the classes really fun. There are always options for scaling the workout so it’s great for beginners if you’re new to CrossFit. I highly recommend trying a class here, especially the Saturday morning partner workouts!

I’ve traveled and dropped into many boxes – this is a top tier CrossFit gym; located at the corner by the gas station so the maps entry was slightly off. Change rooms are almost boutique level. Great staff and equipment – big thanks to Jake. Highly recommend.

I’ve tried regular gyms in the past, but I never stuck to them. It always felt like a waste of money and motivation—until I found YYC CrossFit. Joining this gym has been an absolute game-changer for me. I’ve been doing CrossFit here for about 9 months, and I’ve never felt more committed to my fitness journey.
What sets YYC CrossFit apart is the incredible community. Unlike traditional gyms where you’re just another face in the crowd, here, you feel supported every step of the way. The coaches are fantastic—Shiva, Albert, Nick, Jake, Dean, Scott, and Kristie are all so knowledgeable, friendly, and hilarious! Each of them brings something unique to the table, making every class fun and challenging.
CrossFit doesn’t just help you get into shape—it’s so much more than that. It improves your endurance and strengthens you in ways that make daily routines feel easier. Whether it’s carrying groceries, climbing stairs, or playing sports you’ll notice the difference in your everyday life.
YYC CrossFit is more than just a gym—it’s a community that keeps you motivated, accountable, and excited to come back. If you’re looking for something that truly works and makes fitness fun, I can’t recommend it enough!

Cityscape is organized, provides a welcoming environment for cross fit newbies and is an amazing community of members and staff. The workouts compelled me to try new and unique (to me) exercises. The work outs hit muscles that improved my movement, flexibility, strength and energy. I am firmly middle aged and greatly enjoy this as a workout regimen. The other members are very welcoming and encouraging too. Game on with cityscape.

This is the GYM!
If you are looking to see results; real results this is the gym! Dean is an amazing trainer. His staff is supportive, friendly and they know their stuff. Everyone at this gym is friendly and welcoming. Everyone supports everyone, which is rare especially in a gym atmosphere.
I have been to more than a few gyms and they are all the same. When I walked into Platoon FX I was extremely nervous. The class was intense and something I had never done before. The following day I couldn’t walk, but I had to go back for more and now I’m hooked. I am lucky and really happy to be a part of the Platoon family! I highly recommend this gym to anyone looking for a change in fitness, you will find it here! Dean will make sure of it!
Ashley M (☆ 5/5)

Platoon Fx is a great place to exercise and find out who the best possible you is.
Starting at a new gym can be hard and intimidating, Dean and the rest of his staff makes it super easy and comfortable. They are exceptionally knowledgeable and easy to talk to.
I have worked out with Dean Linvingston and his staff for over a year and I have found that they are consistently there for their members, even when the client has a set back in their routine, Platoon will be there for them when they’re ready to get back at it.
When me and my girlfriend talk about moving to Victoria, not being able to workout with Dean is one of the reasons to stay in Calgary.
Arling Boddy (☆ 5/5)

Customer Reviews
Very fond of this gym. It gives a homey, kinda bodybuilder style because of the worn-in equipment — all of which work very effectively, smoothly, and with a variety too ! Not my usual gym but very tempted to switch because of how peaceful this spot is. Great choice if you live in the area and are looking for a proper weightlifting gym. Waled was super helpful and friendly as well!
Angie Pilivan (☆ 5/5)

I have been going to gym for almost a decade and found this gym very reasonable with standard equipment that works great. Some put reviews about old equipment! If you are a gym person, old or new doesn’t matter! Standard equipment is the utmost importance. This business is a locally owned business and the owners care their business with love. They treat the clients with respect however they have rules so if you think you are an exception to the rules you might be selfish so don’t blame others!
The gym has also a martial arts salon, stretching salon and Sauna plus very good trainers if you are a newbie!
Arash Pashakhani (☆ 5/5)

This gym is almost an outright scam. They have a cancellation policy that insists you can only cancel membership at the front desk, and not through phone or email, even if you’re already two time zones away. This policy is NOT disclosed anywhere on their website. The disclosure is hidden away as a few lines in a document that is multiple pages long that you get to sign at the front desk at start of membership and have give back to them right away. There is a very deliberate lack of conspicuous disclosure. If someone is trying very hard to scam you in one way, it’s best to stay away from them in every way, because they are probably scamming you elsewhere. Another issue I ran into more than once in the gym is that the cleaning sprays were sometimes just water. I’m not sure if those were just some of the employees being sloppy or a practice encouraged by the management. The company is just not trustworthy.
EDIT:
The owner is playing dumb in their response. I had to make several phone calls to the front desk and engaged in long frustrating arguments. They eventually referred me to contact the business owner to get around the cancellation policy, and that’s what I did. That behaviour is too scammy.
Prince Ok (☆ 1/5)

I initially signed up for this gym because it’s a few blocks from my house, knowing that it was for a lack of a better description ‘a little rough around the edges’… But it’s truly disgusting. The equipment is so old and some of it falling apart…one of two stairmasters are often out of service.. all the while charging similar rates as a brand new good life location. It’s worth it to pay a few extra dollars at your local good life or MNP centre to at least get new, clean equipment so you don’t have to worry…
Kimberly Van Dyck (☆ 1/5)

My son have attended this gym and only have great things to say about it. The facilities always clean, and well-maintained. The staff at the gym has always been great. They’re friendly, knowledgeable, and always willing to help or offer advice. The owner Doug is particularly noteworthy—very nice, accommodating, and always helpful. They go above and beyond to ensure members have the best experience possible.
Highly recommended!

Amazing place. Very neat too! They’ve got all the gym equipment you wanna use and the monthly subscription price is good for your pocket. Customer service is excellent! Definitely check it out.
Michael Awua-Mensah (☆ 5/5)

Today I experienced what I believe is the most impressive, complete, and thoughtfully designed fitness space I’ve ever seen—created by an athlete, for athletes… and honestly, for anyone who loves training.
This place is not only smart in layout and equipment selection, but also visually stunning and incredibly well put together. I was genuinely impressed.
Although the gym isn’t fully finished yet and some machines are still on the way, the workout area is already fully functional—and what they have so far easily surpasses most gyms I’ve been to (and I’ve seen a lot!).
They’ve brought in some unique, next-level equipment—especially for lower body training. I even came across a few pieces I had never seen before. It felt like my first day of school all over again—in the best way possible!
They’ve chosen Panatta Sport for their strength training gear, which is top-of-the-line and a serious statement for quality.
The ceilings are soaring, the lighting has clearly been planned with both comfort and aesthetics in mind, and the entire facility is spotless.
For competitors, there’s a large, beautiful posing room that’s a must-try.
Once completed, the facility will include:
》 A full Nordic spa
》 On-site doctor’s office
》 Supplement store
》 Meal prep company providing meals for sale
》 Wrestling ring
》 Large parking area
There’s already a sleek lounge space where you can relax post-workout.
The women’s change room feels more like a ballroom—spacious and elegant, with private showers (currently still under construction).
Drop-in is $20, or you can get a 10-entry punch card for $150.
And lastly, the vibe? Absolutely amazing. Every single person I encountered was friendly and welcoming. Maybe I caught it on a good day, or maybe it just *has* that kind of homey, positive energy. Either way, I’m excited to go back.
Mali LEVEL2FIT (☆ 5/5)

The second you walk into REALM, you just know you’re somewhere not like the rest! It’s sleek, bold, and every detail from the chrome weights to the lighting is next level! And the best part?! There’s space to hang out & connect & work pre/post workout.
Huge shoutout to Kevin Smith for personal and small group training! He’s the real deal – smart, motivating, and knows exactly how to push you in the best way!
And…I’m already counting down the days until I’m back in there!
Tash Marshall Bean (☆ 5/5)

The Realm Gym is hands down the best gym I’ve ever trained in. The facility is stunning, and the equipment is next-level—easily the best I’ve ever seen or used. Everything is spotless, thoughtfully designed, and built with both performance and comfort in mind.
It’s the small, smart details that elevate the experience: two towels provided (one standard and one purple to signal «don’t talk to me»—brilliant), showers stocked with Rocky Mountain Soap Co. products, and an atmosphere that feels more like a luxury wellness space than just a gym. It’s spacious, welcoming, and never intimidating.
The staff are friendly, the vibe is positive, and the owner, Mike, is incredible—always on-site, happy to chat, and genuinely invested in member feedback. Having Paul Anthony as a trainer there is another major plus—his energy, knowledge, and reputation in the fitness world bring a ton of value to the space. A true 5-star facility all the way. Highly recommend.
Nathan Newman (☆ 5/5)

This place is beyond impressive! THE REALM Fitness truly feels like the Disneyland of gyms! Everything is clean, well-designed, and built to motivate. The layout and equipment setup are next-level, and you can tell every detail was thought out with purpose. The owner, Mike, is incredibly friendly and passionate about what he does. His attention to detail really sets the tone for the whole space. From the energy in the gym to the quality of the equipment, this is hands down one of the best training environments out there. Highly recommend!
Huss Hamm (☆ 5/5)

By far the best gym in Calgary and it’s not even close. In fact, it’s likely the best gym in North America and top 10 in the world. You will find machines here that you will not find anywhere else. The gym is absolutely massive, clean and beautiful. The owner Mike, general manager Rob and entire team of staff are both deeply passionate about fitness, extremely knowledgeable when it comes to running and managing a gym and very down to earth and friendly. The gym has an amazing community of passionate fitness enthusiasts and anyone will feel welcome here. Whether you’re already serious about fitness, looking to get back into it, or just getting into it for the first time this gym is hands down the best choice by far. No other gym in Calgary can compete, not even close, and there probably never will be a gym in Calgary that comes remotely close to being better in any way, shape or form.
Brandon Hale (☆ 5/5)

The most insane gym I’ve ever been to. Being a member here is truly a blessing. The entire facility is perfect. The staff are super laidback and work hard to ensure everyone is taken care of and having a great workout. Everything from the washrooms to the equipment is top grade. Even if the gym is packed, it doesn’t even matter because it’s so massive square footage wise. You can always get what you want, and everyone is there to progress. Easily a 10/10. Highly recommend, I’m sure anyone else who trains here would say the same.

Each workout, or "WOD" (Workout of the Day), is designed to challenge participants and improve their overall fitness.
Are CrossFit centers suitable for all fitness levels?
While CrossFit can be incredibly effective for all fitness levels, it's crucial to choose a center that offers scaled workouts and emphasizes proper form. Most reputable CrossFit centers offer introductory classes and modifications to exercises to accommodate beginners and individuals with physical limitations. It’s important to communicate your fitness background and any injuries to the coaches during your initial assessment.
What equipment will I find at a typical CrossFit center in Calgary?
A typical CrossFit center in Calgary is equipped with a variety of equipment. This includes barbells, kettlebells, medicine balls, pull-up bars, jump ropes, boxes, and often, a dedicated area for running or rowing. You’ll also find space for bodyweight exercises and partner work.
How do I choose the right CrossFit center for me?
Choosing the right CrossFit center involves more than just location. Consider the coaching style, the community atmosphere, and the scheduling options. Look for centers with experienced and certified coaches who prioritize safety and proper form. Visiting different centers and trying introductory classes is a good way to find the best fit.
What is the typical cost of joining a CrossFit center in Calgary?
The cost of joining a CrossFit center varies depending on the level of access and the specific center. Generally, memberships range from monthly unlimited to limited class packages. Introductory offers or "taster" sessions may also be available. Always inquire about setup fees and cancellation policies before committing to a membership.
What is the coaching philosophy like at most Calgary CrossFit centers?
The coaching philosophy often emphasizes functional movement, scaling workouts, and building a strong community. Good coaches focus on teaching proper technique, ensuring safety, and providing individualized attention. Many centers prioritize positive reinforcement and creating a supportive environment for all members.
What are the common injuries associated with CrossFit?
While CrossFit can be incredibly beneficial, it's important to be aware of potential injuries. Common injuries include shoulder impingement, lower back pain, and knee problems. These can often be prevented by focusing on proper form, gradually increasing intensity, and listening to your body. Seeking professional guidance from a physical therapist can also be helpful.
What is the community aspect of CrossFit like?
The community aspect is a significant draw for many people who participate in CrossFit. It's often described as a tight-knit group of individuals supporting and encouraging each other. Many centers organize social events and team competitions to foster a sense of camaraderie. This support system can be highly motivating.
What should I wear to my first CrossFit class?
For your first class, wear comfortable athletic clothing that allows for a full range of motion. This typically includes athletic shorts or leggings, a moisture-wicking shirt, and athletic shoes. Most centers provide chalk to improve grip, but you might want to bring your own towel. Don’t worry about having specialized gear—focus on feeling comfortable and ready to move.
How does CrossFit compare to traditional gym workouts?
CrossFit differs significantly from traditional gym workouts. Traditional gyms often focus on isolated exercises using machines, while CrossFit emphasizes functional movements performed with intensity and variation. CrossFit often involves group workouts and a greater emphasis on accountability. It's a more holistic approach to fitness, blending strength, endurance, and flexibility.
