I have been dealing with Ted Yan’s insurance firm for over 15 years. In all that time, I found them to be especially honest and truly willing to do what it takes to take care of their clients. Owning a business, a home and a couple vehicles, I had a couple of claims over the years, they always handled them in the quickest way possible and never caused me any undue stress all throughout the process. I have dealt with several representatives from the firm over the years, but the last few years I have been dealing with Josef Monagas. Josef is the most courteous, efficient, understanding individual I have ever dealt with. Incredibly knowledgeable, professional and willing to go the extra not-one but ten miles to resolve your issues. Thank you Ted, Josef, Shawn, and everyone there for giving your clients peace of mind when they need it most. Highly recommended.

I had an extremely disappointing experience with Ken Martinsen, an agent at Sharp Insurance. Despite being a loyal customer for nearly 9 years without ever missing a payment, I was treated with a lack of respect and professionalism. I had to repeat my request multiple times, but Ken would not listen and spoke in an unprofessional and dismissive manner. His tone and behavior were condescending, bordering on rude.

To make matters worse, when I requested to speak with another representative, he refused, and the phone system continued to route all my calls directly back to him — leaving me no way to escalate the issue or receive proper service.

Due to this unacceptable experience, I canceled my insurance and will be filing a formal complaint with Intact Insurance. It is clear that this individual is not suited for any customer-facing role. No long-time customer should be treated this way.

I just wanted to share the great experience I had with Maheshwari today. Insurance conversations aren’t always the most exciting, but she made the whole process smooth and stress-free.

I was urgently looking to get home insurance and, having no prior experience, I didn’t realize it could take a few days. Maheshwari patiently walked me through the entire application, handled everything with care, and submitted it right away. To my surprise, I had my home insurance approved within a couple of hours!

In my experience, Sharp Insurance is, by a wide margin, one of the worst brokers I’ve dealt with. It takes at least 30 minutes to reach a representative, and often they transfer you, making you wait even longer. Recently, I called them to request a letter of experience. I was shocked to hear that it would take two weeks to issue it, especially when I received the same letter instantly from Desjardins! They told me the delay was because they no longer work with that insurance company, Aviva. I even tried calling Aviva directly, but they said the request has to come from the broker.

Kyle Lihaven was incredibly patient, helpful, and easy to understand. As someone getting insurance for the first time, I really appreciated how clearly he explained everything in simple terms and made sure I was comfortable with the process. He made the experience smooth and stress-free.

Edit: since posting my review they fixed their support and now response are fast if sent to the correct email.

Sharp Insurance used to be good, conduct yearly reviews of your file and respond to requests fast; however, now a simple request can take weeks to get a response to and they don’t conduct the reviews anymore.

This will be my last year with Sharp Insurance as they aren’t doing the bare minimum that you would expect from a broker.

Kyle Lihaven, the agent I had dealt with a few times, after Simran Bath was not dealing with my home policy, proved a very good Customer Service person. It was he with whom I had renewed the policy last year , due to some mess up in the company’s lapse for not ensuring a renewal notice reached me.

This time due to some confusing changes in creating designated teams to deal with individual customers. I found it as an exercise in futility as reaching the right person was an Herculean task.
I had to wait for nearly 30 mnts , three times, only to find the line disconnected.
At one last call I mentioned to the operator/agent to reach the so called designated team , on her assurance that there was no waiting time as there was no other call ahead of me. Even then it took 22 mnts to talk to an agent.

I decided to do away with Sharp Insurance and got an alternate source to buy the policy, ending nearly a decade old relation.
On my final call to get my policy cancelled through Sharp, happened to talk to Kyle, recalling old dealing, explaining my frustration and the reasons there for.
He was so polite, professional and considerate, offering to do whatever was possible, promptly.

Sadly, having given him my mind, I told him to get my policy cancelled.
Sympathing with my situation he promptly cancelled my policy urging to come back next year.

If I do return to Sharp next year, it will be because of Kyle Lihaven.

This may be treated as well my public feed back on the Sharp’s confusing policy and careless conduct.

Hope customers are not subjected to long waits to even talk to an agent.

Absolutely the worst brokers I’ve ever dealt with in my life. From the most ridiculous wait times on the phone to the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. They didn’t cancel my policy after telling them I’m no longer working with them, didn’t contact me to renew, or anything. Just renewed my policy with out even talking to me about it… EVEN AFTER I specifically told them I’d no longer be working with them. This by far the worst broker you could ever go with.

After a long time searching for insurance that was truly worth it in terms of service and cost, we found Mitzi Moreno. Honestly, no one compares to her. Looks like I wasn’t the only one to have a terrible experience with this company. Should’ve looked into this company a bit more before trying to make a claim. Jeez. 1 star reviews galore, and it’s true for a reason. I literally would’ve been better off not dealing with this company and dealt directly with the responsible party’s insurance. The responsible party is willing to pay for the full repairs, but Intact wants to do band-aid repairs and pocket the difference for themselves.

Did you know Intact owns their own contractors and engineers? So, if you have a property damage claim, they can bring in their own contractors and tell you everything is fine, just put some band-aids on it and go. Meanwhile, any proper contractor will tell you that’s insane.

Huge conflict of interest and completely unethical, but what would you expect from a company this low? It’s in their best financial interest to as little to their client.
Any contractor trying to build an honest business and do honest work will do the best for their clients to build a reputation. Again, huge conflict of interest.

If you’re a lawyer, this is like perfect case for a class action against this company.

They automatically renewed their insurance without their knowledge, even though they had a 1-year contract. After a month, they sent a message that you owe $125. Although I did not order new insurance. After clarifying the relationship, it turned out that they sent me new insurance documents that I did not receive because of the Canada strike or whatever else they came up with. I do not recommend contacting them

Used to really like intact. Then they cancelled our comprehensive because we had two (no fault of ours) claims within a 3 year period. One was hail damage which they assured me would not affect our premiums. The other was a hit and run where they had the license plate of the offending party and a police report which included witness contact information.

We are moving to a different company asap.

Intact is not a company I would ever go with again, I have not been with them for 3 years and after going to pay my balance owing in person, they claim they have never received it. And add a new balance, but rather than notifying me, they claim they sent something in the mail that was returned back to them. Instead of calling me or finding a way to get ahold of me they have sent me to collections and given me 0 notice. When called to deal with this with customer service they claim that because they sent the letter even if it was sent back it counts as they notifying me and they won’t be helping me further. Find a company that you can trust and isn’t so scummy

Got home insurance from them, they took payment and very next day they came back with some additional clause to install multiple things in home to go through or have to cancel.
Now after cancelation, for rembursement of the payment first it was said that refund will be in 3 to 5 business days then it became next week and now 6 weeks.
If that’s how they deal for repayment for cancelation which happened because of there own reason then imagine in case of claim what they will do. I assume running after them for months if not years
In my opinion pathetic and fraudulent will be understatement for this type of service atleast in my particular case

We had auto insurance with Intact and then moved out of province. I canceled the insurance and they said it’ll take TEN BUSINESS DAYS to get us our letter of experience! So we are now unable to be insured until that arrives. Ridiculous. Intact says it’s Brokerlink who has to issue the letter, Brokerlink says it’s Intact. Either way we are stuck without a car thanks to this situations – I’ve gotten LOE before and always within 48h. Go with other providers!!

Edit – per their response below I called that number. It asked me to leave a message, couldn’t event talk to someone. Left a message, will be making a complaint with the Ombudsman for the province. Now 4 days and still unable to buy the car or get insurance despite my clean record.

Expensive. Not worth the monthly price for how little you get. Wouldn’t recommend!

I canceled my insurance back in April and they randomly took a pre auth payment July 7th. Not impressed by that at all. Shady practice.

Copying and pasting the same response to all the comments shows how little effort and care this company has for their customers.

Be careful as they will automatically renew your policy without telling you.

Update: We canceled our second policy with them and went with TD instead for half the price and more coverage
