We moved our mother into the memory care wing in early April. It is challenging to find available facilities and appropriate care these days. Auburn and their staff have exceeded expectations consistently. The care, kindness, mindfulness and communication is top notch. It is a relief to know our mom is getting so well looked after and is in the right place as she declines.

As the daughter of my elderly mom at Auburn Heights, I have found the personnel helping my mom to be caring and competent. Any conversations with the Lifestyles Director and/or the Executive Director regarding my mom’s fluctuating care, are always met with flexibility to suit the specific needs of my mom. There are plenty of activities, live music and special events; something for everyone’s tastes.

I love the Blossom Program at Auburn Heights. Denise and her staff are extremely kind and compassionate for residents with Dementia. They put a lot of thought and preparation into the programs and the residents who partake in the Blossom Program find them fun and engaging absolutely. They use the facilities wisely & creatively as well as take the residents out for country drives and outings. I would highly recommend the blossom program to any residents of Auburn Heights who want that little bit of extra engaging & community in their day. They are a WONDERFUL group of residents who all get along so well and enrich each other’s lives on a daily basis.

Both of my parents lived their final years and days at Auburn. It was their home where they aged in place. The friendly staff and compassionate caregivers were their friends and family. Thanks for all you’ve done, you went above and beyond!

Declining quality and service all around. Given the price Auburn Heights charges and what is advertised and promised we hoped this would be a comfortable retirement home for my parents. Instead, the food options often feature pre-packaged/prepared breaded cheap cuts or deli type meats rather than nutritious meals cooked from whole ingredients.

The staff, although friendly are spread thin. Suite housekeeping is not as advertised, hit-and-miss.

Overall, the residence halls and shared spaces are looking tired, worn and unevenly maintained.

When deficiencies are repeatedly brought to the attention of management there are many excuses and justifications, ranging from «oh the vacuum cleaner broke» to «it’s hard to get good staff», NONE of which is a paying customer’s concern.

After a year here and seeing no overall improvement I am actively seeking an alternate living arrangement for my parent and I feel very badly for people who do not have someone to advocate for them.

My parents moved into Auburn Heights in the November of 2016. My father passed in the fall 2018 and my mom remains a resident there. I can’t say enough about this wonderful place. The staff are all extremely friendly and truly enjoy the residents and working there. They have a smile for everyone. They know the residents and their families well and go out of their way to help when help is needed. There are lots of activities and social events for the residents to participate in if they choose to. I can’t get ahold of my mom by phone as she is never in her room! The food is great and they are diligent in taking care of the facility and the grounds. It is a clean, cheery and bright! They handled the pandemic with great caution and were very creative in keeping some activities going without compromising safety. My mom is beyond happy at Auburn Heights. It is her community. I would highly recommend it!

What an incredible place, my mom recently passed after being with them for 6 months. She was always treated with kindness and respect even when dementia made her difficult to deal with.
Please don’t hesitate to have your loved one cared for here, nothing negative to say from the cleanliness, food quality, large rooms, activities for residents and of course the staff. Kalin

I come to see my mother where her help button was unplugged from the wall and because I thought it was just a accident I plugged it back in then I left got worried the next day about her so I returned to find her on the floor screaming for help i had to pick her up off the floor sent her to the hospital and when she left I had to clean the mess from bowl issues myself even though they said they would and when I finally finished and ask someone where the garbage is and can they sweep the floor she said they don’t speak English then find out they do?? I’m so disappointed in the care at this place!!!

Rooms are a good size. The dining area is a good size. The staff are never around when you need them. Or they are not willing to help. If a resident soils themselves within an hour of shift change, they leave them in it. The doctors will just order random, useless tests for the residents. Patient care in a medical facility is not their goal.

The staff are great. My father in law is in here. It’s new, bright, clean and warm. The energy feels nice. The rooms are large with huge walk in shower/bathrooms. Only drawback that I’ve seen in other places is there is no balcony off his room. Friendly place. He is listed as an SL4.

Just moved my parents into a suite for couples. It’s really nice, roomy and clean. Parents are super happy and say the food is excellent! Two days before we moved them in, I was in the lobby when an older man began having a seizure. I watched quietly from a distance. Within seconds, 3 staff members were with the man, gently managing the seizure. His wife sat near by and was quickly accompanied by another staffer who stayed with her, calmly reassuring her and helping her deal with the stress. Within minutes, there was a doctor and RN on the scene. Everyone worked together like a well oiled machine and when there were moments when this staffer or that staffer was not needed to care for the man, I saw at least 3 of them at different times go to his wife to keep her informed and make sure she was ok. It was awesome! I am so glad I was able to see how well such situations are handled. It has given me great confidence in the staff here.

My Grandmother now calls St. Teresa Place by Covenant Care Home.

****I want to give a huge huge to SAM! Their maintenance man. We had huge issues with Telus hooking up cable for my Grandma’s TV. SAM was so helpful and had so many answers! I truly appreciate his care for my grandma as well as his prompt, courteous, and knowledgeable help with our issues with telus

– The nurses and support staff are wonderful with her as well as our family.
– The have helped ensure that her transition there was smooth for her as well as the rest of our family.
– The nursing staff has been helpful with any of our concerns.

The only reason this doesn’t get 5* is because of the difficulties at certain time being able to enter the building as there is not someone at reception later on in the evening. Which makes entry into the building to visit difficult. As well as the 7pm visiting hr cut off. Being that some people are night owls (My grandma and myself among them).

Words will never be able to say exactly how much this care center means to our family. The staff are absolutely wonderful and compassionate. My father, who recently passed, was in their LTC – dementia unit, was in their care for a year and no matter what time I would go to visit there was never any change in the personality of the staff or the care. My family was able to rest easy knowing Dad was so well taken care of.

I cannot express how amazing this place is. You will be in amazing hands if your loved one is placed here.

Do not let your loved one go here. Was visiting my friend, there was a woman crawling on the floor, crying, half dressed. A staff member took a call down the hall telling her loved one was doing great – having an super time. Hung up to find out she was referring to the woman on the floor. Staff member walked by me and the woman on the floor, not even blinking an eye or helping.
She said: «If they don’t visit, you tell them what they want to hear even if you have to lie.»

Atria of Arbour Lake is a very happy, accomodating friendly place to live. I have enjoyed my time here but unfortunately I have to move closer to the things I need in my latter years. I have found the staff to be helpful and kind beyond their daily duties. I have especially loved working with Kate, the house keeper for my suite, who has gone out of her way to assist with my every need. I will greatly miss you Kate – along with all the special people Atria has on their payroll. Thank you for having me over these past couple of years.

My husband & I moved in to Arbour Lake Retirement Residence a few months ago. It has been a learning experience to be sure. Overall, the experience has been positive. We live in a spacious two bedroom two bathroom suite which as very clean & brightWe have both found the food quality & quantity to be good. My husband has medical issues & is grateful for the doctor who visits in the suite every other week. My husband’s health has improved since moving here. I participate in some of the activities & give great credit to the Activities Director, Nancy for the energy & enthusiasm she puts into her job. She tries hard to keep us occupied. I am also very happy to not have to prepare meals three times a day everyday. And I have to credit the servers who are always cheerful & smiling. Community Living requires adjustment. It is very different in many aspects. But we are happy we came.

I have my brother and sister in law Chartwell Eau Claire for almost 1 year now. The staff here are lovely and caring and respond to their needs. My brother says » can you believe how well we are taken care of». They definitely have all their needs met. The number of medical staff here is great and we are fortunate to have a family doctor here who visits every 2 weeks or more.
They were really lucky to get a 2 bedroom and 2 bathroom apartment that is kept very clean. Their apartment is decorated nicely with all their things from their house. They have their laundry done here.
So many excellent staff here to name. Alexa, Kanwal, Sylvia, Johti, Joyce, Josephine and evening and night staff my family has talked about also.

Part 1-
BEWARE- MEMORY CARE- Do NOT choose this facility!
Our family moved our Mom into Memory Care in January of last year. As our moms care needs increased, we had to move to a LTC facility, and it turns out to be the best thing. Unfortunately, we feel awful for the residents remaining in Memory care at this facility. Our Mom was there for a full year.
MOVING IN- The first case manager we had which was an AHS nurse- Talked the families nurse practitioner out of staying on. «Forcing» the in-house doctor on us. Unfortunately, at this time we were unaware that we had a choice. Then down the road when we parted ways with the doctor that we never wanted, management told us no other in-house doc was available and we could just bring our Mom to a clinic. (Clearly not understanding the care of our Mom and how unreasonable that would be as at this time it is almost impossible to take her out.)
THE DOCTOR-Shortly after we had met Dr. Tapay (The in-house doc force on us) the family called for a follow up meeting as information was not being passed along. Example- Mom had a fall. In that meeting we are stunned regarding information provided and curious to how family is not kept informed. The case manager constantly providing us conflicting information. Dr. T insisted on changing her meds from the moment our mom moved in. This caused our Mom to have very off days. Family would show up to find her wondering the halls and would drastically be leaning to a side. Mom often found walking around with no walker. Family would have to advocate for hydromorphone.
Dr T would constantly delay starting meds- Mom had ongoing toe infection. Staff would leave socks on for days, no one would look at foot. When LPN questioned, family was told they do not change socks every day. Toes were not being monitored, and treatment was delayed. Certain staff members would hand over duties to family/companions- example foot bath. (Or just not do it) Mom was starting to sleep all day- family contact’s doctor. Blood work and urine are to be collected. Urine was never attempted. 3-4 weeks later, urine was collected and UTI detected. Delay in antibiotics. *Both these issues were reoccurring and handled the same each time.
MANAGEMENT- Unfriendly, Unwelcoming, Unprofessional and often just «pass the buck» and not take responsibility.
Incompetent management who risk the well being/health of residents. Example 1- In the summer residents get «trapped» (many residents are no longer able to open anunlocked door) on the patio. When concern was addressed, manager (Loreli) emailed back that 24 degrees is fine for a resident to be outside. Unfortunately, even the good staff is so overwhelmed they have no time to check if anyone is on the patio and residents remain outside for literally hours.
Example 2- When elevators are not working, there are signs directing to take the stairs. Get to the bottom of the stairs a code is needed to open the door. Our mom already struggled coming down the stairs and it made her exhausted. After calling and sending another to find the code we were told the door does not open and to just bring your mom back up the stairs. Our mom could hardly handle going down the stairs! The assistant manager (April) showed no compassion and said the code worked- yet 3 of her staff members told us otherwise.
-Lack of staff. Change in the numbers of HCA’s and LPN’s have the staff unable to keep up with the demands of the unit. Evening staff has been seen to have gone on breaks together. Leaving no staff on unit. Families companion questioned the HCA, his response was ‘they are all sitting down, I am going on my break too.’ When family talked to Manager Loreli- was told she will look into it and then followed up with this did not happen.
-Moving out- Assistant manager April, comes by to argue and be difficult once again, arguing the information provided to us in an email. Essentially causing extra work for the family, once again.

The staff have been amazing, team of nurses is great and there is always a fun activity for my mom to partipcate in. I find it distressing to visit my friend at Chartwell Eau Claire, the furniture has been pushed into the walls for weeks and residents are not permitted to socialize or roam freely due to «covid» protocol, my heart breaks for the people stuck living in these conditions, especially those who don’t have visitors. Not to mention my friend just received news that rent is due to increase (again), it costs thousands a month to be self incarcerated here where the quality of life has gone way down as costs go up. Shame.

Easy to communicate with. The food must be good as he has added a few extra pounds since moving there. We love the downtown location with easy access to Bow River promenade or to the LRT. Being on west end of downtown easy access to Memorial Drive, Bow Trail and Crowchild. Parking is easy in the basement or on the street is free weekends and evenings. Definitely recommend Chartwell Eau Claire

The one star is for its cleanliness and photo opp facility, everything else is garbage. It no longer carries it’s mission of «glory to God», Wing Kei is all about making money, running the facility at the lowest possible cost. Executive staff and admin staff are very snobby and quite a few staff members have very little respect for family members time and efforts.
They claim to have Asian food, but it is often food that is very salty and drenched in oil. Honestly not sure how this is healthy for the seniors in the facility.
If you visit on a regular schedule, they’ll appear to take care of your loved ones, but we showed up at a random time one day and my family member was soiled, was 1.5 hours passed his scheduled medication and hadn’t eaten breakfast at 930am.
The few staff who do care are clearly over worked. Equipment that is broken takes months to fix, if not left unfixed. They prefer that everyone stays in a wheelchair and doesn’t encourage residents walk around.
Recreation programs are a joke and not inclusive. If you’re family member is introverted, don’t expect them to participate as they just leave them out.
I’m sad that my family has to continue to put up with this garbage. This place really isn’t that great.

If you have your love one live in this facility, make sure that you call and monitor his/her heath condition all the time. It’s very hard to schedule an indoor visit with my dad during the pandemic. Today during the indoor visit, my dad was wearing a mask, (I had asked to let him wear a face shield instead of mask since last visit due to difficulty in breathing for him). And he didn’t respond to me and my mom as normal as usual. He couldn’t speak to us, and couldn’t hear us. I was yelling loudly for help, it took more than 16mins to have someone come in and check. Also, when the unit manager was explaining me about the situation, her eyes and attitude had shown no sympathy or understanding at all. She just spoke to me like a robot. I feel very disappointed at their lack of communication and zero sympathy.

A family member has been cared for by Wing Kei Greenview (WKG) for just less than a year, what made it stand out from the care homes / retirement communities my family member had been previously is that WKG offers meals specifically catering for those liking Asian style cooking. Also, many of the staff and residents there speak either Mandarin or Cantonese, that makes this place particularly suitable to elderly folks of Chinese descent. Staff there are well qualified, courteous and caring, the time I have interacted with them I felt they cared about the quality of work and care they provide, and that they ensured things were followed up and through. I feel comfortable my family member is taken care of by WKG and recommend them to others. The only thing I was not crazy about WKG was and still is the layout of building is designed like a medical institution rather than like a retirement resort. This is purely aesthetic.

Well done Wing Kei Greenview. Thank you all.

There was only one choice when I was looking for a place for seniors in my life, and it was Trico Living Well. The entire team welcomed us with open arms, and continue to support my relatives with assisted living. The food is fantastic, and the choice of meals throughout the day is impressive. Once the staff got to know my family, their specific needs with respect to dietary requirements, low salt, low sugar etc. is automatically known. Every day there is an exercise class or two, and the events are varied. From live music, to movies on the big screen in the theater, to art classes, health and wellness, a puzzling area, and lots of places to sit down and relax and simply chat. The people at the front desk are welcoming, with big smiles. The nursing team is supportive and communicate regularly. The atmosphere is big, wide, and open. It feels like an elegant hotel, but with the personal touches of the staff that is very caring. Did I mention the food was great?! I often stop by there on purpose just to have lunch! And the wine selection is equally impressive.

«I could get used to this!» said my dad!

What an incredible community, run by a passionate, empathetic and kind-hearted team. The building and location itself is absolutely beautiful, with warm and inviting open-spaces and wonderfully diverse programming. I work specifically with the dementia community and it is incredible to see the support that Trico LivingWell has provided, not only by creating a wonderful community for those living with dementia, but also presenting the Alzheimer Calgary Walk & Run as the main sponsor. They truly invest into the community where it makes a real impact, and host additional fundraisers to help make an even bigger difference.

I have loved meeting each of them, Brandi, Kate, and the whole team – the food is incredible and curated for the residents, and they truly take care of every detail. I would highly recommend Trico LivingWell and it’s such a joy to work and interact with them!

We are a specialty transition service business operating in Calgary. We assist seniors who are leaving their homes and moving into assisted or independent living. We have been working with Trico Living Well for quite some time. It’s always a pleasure to work with Trico and the amazing and compassionate staff, like Brandi, who make the residence such a wonderful place to live! It’s been an absolute pleasure helping their residents move in. Every client is truly happy and delighted to be there!!

The staff is professional, patient and helpful! The facilities are new, bright and state of the art with the ambience of a boutique hotel! The common areas and activities provide for stimulating community and the residents are friendly and welcoming. Anyone considering becoming a resident or helping move a loved one to this beautiful location can do so with confidence and peace of mind. Thank you to the Team for helping my mom feel so at home. Cheers, Jeff

There are significant differences between the different facilities across Calgary and this review is not about the distinguishing features of Trico Living Well (that would be much too long of a review). My mother ultimately chose Trico (and I agreed with that choice).

My mother toured the Trico LivingWell facility twice over 10 months, then tried it out on a «Staycation» basis and is now a resident in her own suite.

So far, my mother’s experience with Trico has been very good. One of the key factors in choosing to live in such a facility is the people who work there.

Brandi Young (leasing consultant) was the point of contact for both tours (in January and fall 2024) – great tour guide. Brandi seemed full of patience. Even given the repetition of having to give 100s of tours and sit down meetings with people interested in the facility, Brandi’s approach was filled with patience and she seemed unphased by having to answer the same questions over and over. Brandi has also been a focal point of contact for questions and concerns after the move in and has been invaluable in navigating the facility. This was somewhat surprising to me – because I assumed that once the leasing process was done, my Mother would be passed on to a different employee at Trico as her «go to» person for ongoing questions and concerns. I can see now that having a consistent point of contact like Brandi (from the initial tours, leasing process and then as a tenant) makes things easier for tenants. If Brandi ever moves on to other opportunities in the future, I think that will be a big disappointment for residents at Trico.

Many other people work at Trico. I have had limited (or no) contact with most of them but my mother tells me about them. Whenever I visit, the receptionists have been helpful with parking. The onboarding process with Trico’s RN and LPN was thorough (but a little tiring for my mother given how long going through all of the necessary questions take). The health staff have been responsive when my mother has had a few issues requiring her to call them. My mother also appreciates that Trico has arranged for local GPs to provide «on site» doctor appointments for residents. My mother has been very complimentary of the staff who clean her suite weekly. My mother also appreciates the people working in the art activity programs.

My mother has says ALL of the staff are good at learning the names of the residents (pretty impressive given that there are 200+ residents).

Probably, the most important service for most of the Trico residents is the meal service. My mother knows the servers who staff the shifts and is pleased with the efforts they make. On balance, I would say that my mother has been O.K. with the meal services at Trico. As expected, individual menu items get a mix of good and bad reviews. My mother does complain about some dishes being served too cold and hears that some facilities address this by placing plates under covers to keep them warm until actually placed on the table. She enjoys the daily soup offerings but does complain that soup isn’t always served first. Staffing problems (i.e. employee absences which every employer has to contend with) sometimes cause service to get slow – but it sounds like those problems are not frequent. My understanding is that Trico has a wider range of dining room hours over which meals are offered (i.e. not set meal sittings or narrow time bands like some other facilities). This is a selling point but might have some tradeoffs – like slower service if too many residents show up at the same time and overwhelm the available dining staff. So maybe some room for improvement?

Trico could improve is their monthly billing documents. I have a university accounting degree and I find it difficult to navigate all of the offsetting debit and credit entries that are put into different parts of the bill. My mother has relayed that she has heard other residents also complain about this.

That’s it… overall (even with some criticisms) – 5 stars.

I moved into assisted living at Trico after exploring other options in July. The move went incredibly well with movers recommended by Trico. The new building is great and it represents good value. The dining experience is excellent. 3 meals with choice as to when to eat, what to eat, and where you wish to sit. The Trico team is very knowledgeable, professional and foster a caring community. Brandi, the sales manager, was attentive to understanding my needs. Trico Living Well is home.

I picked up my mother-in-law to take her to a dance recital my daughters were a part of. There was plenty of parking right in front of the door and finding my way was easy to do.

I really noticed how clean it was inside, and well lit for evening hours. There is a very nice coffee shop on the main floor.

Getting off the elevator, I was able to find my way again with no trouble. I saw a library with tables and games, as well as internet terminals. I also noticed a well equipped physio gym.

My mother-in-law’s suite is very nice, it is cleaned regularly by staff. She has a small fridge, and a television, radio, chair, and dresser from her home. The washroom is so spacious that I’m envious!

The kitchen is staffed by a professional chef and there’s places for people to get coffee and tea.

Picking up my mother-in-law was very straightforward, the staff were friendly and professional. In minutes we were on our way with
medication and instructions. Later in the evening, staff greeted her and asked about her evening.

I had a very positive experience and I appreciate the staff who keep the place so nice.

Providence care centre was such a breath of fresh air in Long Term Care facilities!!!! I cannot say enough about the outstanding and courteous care my mother received here. She was not always gracious to the staff however the staff still treated her like gold. The facility is beautiful and the food appealing and appetizing. My mother came alive here for her short stay. She came after almost two years at George Boyack where she had fallen into deep depression never leaving her room or even getting dressed during the day. Three days into coming to providence she came ‘alive’. Dressing every day and going to all meals in the dining room. She was smiling and her old feisty self. We the Jacobsen family are so grateful to providence for this beautiful change and the fact that although she was only a resident for three months….they were the best she’d had in 2.5 years!! Bravo Providence Care Centre and all the amazing staff!!! A warm and Heartfelt Thank You! From Carmen Jacobsen’s children, grandchildren and great grandchildren!!❤️❤️

It was a beautiful day and I was waiting for a covid test, I was early and took the drive to the top of hill to have a smoke while I waited. Google maps location prompted this review. As I walked the street with my smoke I noticed all the relatives taking their loved ones for a walk although they were in wheelchairs I thought the how great it must be to have loving family who honestly care. I bet they were thrilled to get some needed fresh air and different scenery. I do not know of the facility but did see all the happy faces of the ones at Providence Care Center. Kudos to all the people who care.

The staff and the attendants and nurses take really good care of my 94 yr old mother. She can be stubborn at times but they still provide excellent care.
The rooms and halls are spacious with lots of activities.
However the dinners are very often inedible as the soups are cold, meat is tough and Veggi’s undercooked . This can easily be fixed if it becomes a priority.
Overall my mother really appreciates being there.

Please pay attention.

1. I don’t eat scrambled eggs every day. Please stop serving them to me every day. I am 65 years old. Cholesterol is a concern for me.

2. I need my fruit ground up. Please stop giving me hard pieces of fruit. I don’t have any teeth. I could have swallowed the pieces of mellon you served Sunday morning – swallowed the pieces whole, but that would bring indigestion and a stomach ache.

3. Please stop putting my toast on the plate with the fruit. Soggy toast is the result and not at all palatable.

Breakfast today was sadly an «F».

People here don’t have a Lotta common sense the place isn’t very clean. The rooms are not bad but somebody should have a camera to see how they clean how they wipe things down how they clean the entrance area. I think people would be appalled because realistically, I don’t think these people know how to clean that they’ve hired to do the job. I think they need to monitor everybody a little bit better and I think they need to watch their staff a little bit better because there’s a lot of non common sensible things that go on here

My dad was admitted to the Alternate Level of Care at Bethany Calgary in November and later transferred to their Long-Term Care unit in December. Our experience at Bethany was truly wonderful. The facility has a beautiful atrium, which was decorated with festive Christmas decorations—creating the perfect setting for our family Christmas gathering.

While my dad was at Bethany, we also had him on the waitlist for several other facilities. When a spot became available at our third-choice facility, we toured it but ultimately declined, as Bethany’s atrium and library made for a much more inviting and comfortable environment. During our visits, my husband and I would often take my dad to the library to work on a jigsaw puzzle together or spend time chatting in the atrium.

Recently, we moved my dad to our second-choice facility, as it better suits his language needs. However, we will always be grateful for the kindness and support we received at Bethany. The staff was incredibly accommodating, ensuring his financial and dietary needs were met. My dad, who does not have dementia, was able to express his appreciation for their care, and I, too, experienced firsthand the compassion and dedication of the team.

Bethany Calgary provided a warm and welcoming environment for my dad and our family, and we deeply appreciate the time he spent there.

Honestly, this place should be shut down. All accreditations should be removed, the doctors investigated, and charges laid for the abuse of elders by the «caregivers». My mother spent 8 very long months living in this hell before we were able to move her (which we were only able to do because a woman at Transitional Services had compassion and took pity on her). This is not a place where people «age in place», it is where people are forced to experience hell before dying.

From the very first day my mother was forced into this disgustingly dirty, mouse infested facility, the contempt for the elderly was apparent, and it got worse as time went on. They ignore the call button, whether the person uses the one on their wrist or on the wall. They do mean things like withholding dentures and cellphones or telling an immobile person asking for water that they are not a babysitter. Their idea of rec is to take people so drugged they can’t talk and point their wheelchairs in front of a muted TV. Physio does not happen as scheduled if at all, and they will not let your loved one know of any changes to anything. They leave people to sit in soiled diapers for hours – like a lot of hours. My mother was left in her bed for a solid 4 days at one point. If you complain, they will treat your person worse.

My advice to anyone whose loved one is being forced into this place from a hospital; refuse the transfer. It is almost impossible to move a person after they are placed. To anyone who has a loved one in this place… I am so sorry for you and your person. Contact Transitional Services and get on every other waitlist in the city. Pay attention to the drugs they are giving and don’t just accept what the doctor there is saying, chances are he isn’t paying attention during the careplan meetings.

This place will steal any speck of dignity your loved one has left to take their money without delivering on the services they promise to provide. They will accept zero accountability and say that your person has dementia when it’s actually a UTI caused by their neglect and refusal to test.

In short… if you hear that they want to force your person here, don’t let it happen. Having experienced Bethany firsthand, I am extremely suspicious of the authenticity of the 5 star reviews.

Please see my review of Cambridge Manor.

My mom moved to Bethany recently, and the staffs there from social worker to the doctor and nurse on site, and the caregivers who look after my mom are all super supportive and helpful. The therapist herself actually went all over the places, even skipped her lunch, just to find a wheelchair that would allow my mom’s feet to touch ground to ease her back pain (she’s very petite) really touched me. The registered nurse on my mom’s floor is super kind and knowledgeable, she also took the initiative to contact me regarding my mom’s upcoming doctor appointments and transportations, so we are on the same page, which is really important to me, and I can’t thank her enough 🙂

Communication really is the key, and I do agree with some of the other reviews that you need to talk to the right person in order to get concerns resolved. Also I don’t live there day to day, so my opinion is only based on what I have observed. Still, let’s be real, no matter how much I love my dear mother, the amount of attention and physical assistance she requires everyday is way over my capacity. And that’s why I appreciate these wonderful people at the Bethany so much!

There are group activities scheduled up each month, there are shows, there are spiritual gathering events, there are meals prepared on time with snacks in between, there are staff helping her to get her cleaned each time she used bathroom, baths are done twice a week with their help. I haven’t talked to the doctor too much myself, but the registered nurse on her floor has been responding to my messages really promptly and willing to help in any way she can, and most importantly, medication is brought to her on time. There’s even a giant greenhouse 24/7 and fully decorated for Christmas as well! I mean I love my mom, and I appreciate her raising me, but let’s face it, there’s simply no way I can arrange all those activities while looking after her physical needs just by myself. So the physical and mental support from these lovely people working at Bethany are not just for my mom, but also for me.

All I can say is, thank you very much, Bethany *heart

Compassionate, caring, kind and wonderful staff at Bethany Calgary North . I am from a private homecare company and I stayed overnight to assist a family with palliative care for their loved one. The staff does assist whenever I needed any help. Nurse Emma was exceptionally helpful and HCAs Brites and Felix. Forfive me if i forgot any names. Thanks to all the staff. I know the system is what it is sometimes. However, I see that the staff worked really hard. The place is so clean and I do not smell any lingering urine or fecal odors like I would at some other facilties and hospital units. I was actually really impressed here at the Bethany on 18a 3rd floor of Calgary North 3East. Thank you for being so accomodating. Our mother has been a resident at this facility for just over 3 years. Her first day as a resident at Bethany was «Day 1» of lock down March 2020. Like most Care Facilities across the country there were many learning curves in dealing with our first severe Pandemic! I commend the long term staff at the Bethany Calgary for their commitment and dedication to the residents at this facility. The level of care has had some adjustments but over all it is very good. It takes team work and good communication from all staff and residents and family members of the residents. The food is very good and nutritional. The building is clean and maintained with updates to mechanical and renovations. One of the things I would like to see more of is «recreational games» for the residents. To watch them get so involved and become competitive is fun to watch. I look forward to more things happening at this Care Facility as long as our family member resides there. Thank you to the Staff and Administration of the Bethany.

Available spaces are often limited, so there might be a waiting list. Alberta Health Services may also be involved in the placement process.

What is the role of family members in a nursing home setting?

Family members play a vital role in the well-being of residents. They can provide emotional support, maintain connections to the outside world, participate in care planning meetings, and advocate for the resident’s needs. Maintaining regular contact and involvement can significantly improve a resident’s quality of life.

What types of activities and social programs are typically offered?

Nursing homes typically offer a variety of activities and social programs designed to engage residents and promote their physical, mental, and emotional well-being. These may include music therapy, art classes, exercise programs, group outings, and spiritual services. The goal is to provide opportunities for socialization and enrichment.

How do I check the inspection reports for a particular nursing home?

Inspection reports are generally available to the public through the Alberta Health Services website. You can typically search for a specific nursing home and access their latest inspection report, which will detail any areas of concern and the facility's plan for addressing them. This is a valuable tool for informed decision-making.

What happens if I have concerns about the care my loved one is receiving?

If you have concerns about the care your loved one is receiving, it’s important to communicate these concerns directly to the nursing home’s administration or care coordinator. If the concerns are not addressed adequately, you can contact Alberta Health Services to file a formal complaint. Detailed records of communication are helpful.
