I was looking for some legal assistance with a civil matter and called this firm to help me draft a cease & desist letter. Over the phone I’ve been told that it would be $375 (+ GST) for a consultation and 1-2-3 hours of lawyer time to make a letter, depending on the case. Person on the phone assured me that they have a lawyer who is experienced with situations like mine, which could be true. I also had another quote of $1.5k for the same service from another firm, but I went ahead with O&S after seeing good reviews and ballparking the potential price.

The lawyer that I spoke to was knowledgeable, however I didn’t hear anything new to be honest. Then he said that a retainer fee would be 5k$. Quite the difference compared to what I heard over the phone, unless they’re charging 1.5-2.5k$ per hour. I think I’ll pass.

Thanks for nothing I guess. You guys can go ahead and send me angry emails.

From the first phone call to the closing of our refinance and land title change with Kahane Law Office, it was an amazing experience! The entire team, but especially our paralegal Anne, was incredibly efficient and knowledgeable throughout our transaction. It was such a smooth and positive experience that I couldn’t be anymore grateful. Honestly, this team was the best to work with and I highly recommend them!

Going with this firm cost me $250 out of pocket due to delays in closing my real estate transaction.

Throughout the process, I had to follow up to ensure next steps were happening. The paralegals sent the same emails multiple times, which caused confusion. On the day of closing, my mortgage agent flagged that the necessary documentation had not been received. When I contacted the law office urgently, I was told to email instead of receiving immediate assistance.

As a result, the closing was delayed by one day, which incurred additional costs for me. When I raised my concerns, the firm’s owner, Jeff, defended their position, even though the facts did not align. They had requested documents by a specific date, and my courier provided a timestamped delivery well within that window, yet I was still accused of being late.

Since Jeff has responded publicly, I want to share an important update. Below is a verbatim quote from the paralegal regarding the interest charges I incurred:

«As for the interest that was paid, after we received registration in your names, we had requested the funds in ample time from [Bank], but the mortgage did not fund to our trust account in time.»

The instructions were faxed over, but no follow-up took place. The bank later requested additional documentation, and my mortgage agent—not the law firm—had to push the urgency through me. A lack of verification or follow-up from the firm, especially on closing day, is a major concern.

I am not seeking a refund, but I want to share my experience so that others are aware. If you are out of province, be mindful—perhaps their service is better for local clients.

I worked with Victor Vogel and Kasey Anderson during my divorce and, unfortunately, my experience was deeply disappointing. A significant health issue, which had a direct impact on both of my children’s support, was completely left out of my divorce agreement. This oversight resulted in two more years of legal battles, during which I was left without adequate child support while facing serious health challenges.

I later learned from a new lawyer that this issue should have been addressed in the original agreement and is now being classified as a pre-existing condition—something that could have been avoided with more thorough representation. So egregious I was advised I have grounds for legal action.

I paid for trusted legal guidance and was left vulnerable at one of the most difficult times in my life. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this firm.

Belated review here, first a huge thank you to Mike and Christine who handled my personal injury suit in 2018 (settled in 2021) I am truly grateful for their professionalism and how trustworthy the team. When I needed legal counsel on another matter during that time, and heard how highly Mike was thought and spoken of at the firm it solidified my own confidence in my ability to trust. Mike handled the case, which included handling my emotional Rollercoaster (yay ptsd sucks) so well that when I needed representation again on another matter my first thoughts were of the team at Vogel.

This time I lucked out with Michelle, Manroop and Sarah. Though parts of me would have preferred a much shorter time frame, the speed of law always faster and still slower than we want it to be. I had a wonderful experience with Ramandeep Sidhu. We chatted in a paid consultation. It seemed like she was on my side. She was representing me in Family Law. I signed up, gave her all my info and retainer. Was charged an arm and a leg for admin fees. They asked for all my info to be scanned then charged me for emails. After that, she demanded a co-decision maker which No court order has confirmed, nor OPG. Fired!! Unacceptable. She diagnosed me as incapacitated. I was ordered to get a lawyer for divorce as I was self rep and did not know protocol for divorce against my spouse, Terry Laurie, aka Prigmore. They will not reverse my credit card. They needed a void cheque to put funds into my account. Be aware when you contact this Law firm.

Cross roads law firm is horrible. Do not suggest. I used Yasemin Ahmen. She took me on and I paid the retainer. She spoke with me once on the phone and answered some emails she then left for vacation For over two weeks. I needed her the most then so I reached out asking if it was urgent I got no reply other then she will be back soon.when she did come back she told me she was already fully booked but could fit me in but would charge me an urgent fee moving forward. They charged me over 90 dollars for two short voice mails asking if my issue was urgent or not and I got one reply for it from her assistant telling me she will be back soon. They will charge you just for booking an appointment as they charge 30 dollars for every email. They did nothing for me and charged me just under 2000 and still have my retainer. I’m scared to call and ask for it as I’m worried they will charge me for a call asking for it. On top of all that she was hard to work with as I gave her some information that was not true about me and before I was able to explain she told me I should not do what the lie said wasting money and putting me on the defence. She did not let me review emails be she sent them to other lawyer. I did not feel supported by this law firm in anyway. It delayed me getting help for my child and I causing harm to us.

Highly do not recommend this lawyer.

I can’t say enough about the folks at Crossroads Law. I agonized and researched a lot before I hired a divorce lawyer, and I stand by my results. Absolutely fantastic bunch.

But in particular I need to mention Gloria Choo. Gloria was the paralegal assigned to help with my file. She was like a brilliant octopus the way she handled documents and issues. Opposing counsel made a raft of clerical errors, but Gloria was swift to spot and address them as they arose.

But as much as she’s able to handle issues, Gloria’s humanity, heart, humour, and support meant everything to me.

While I hope I don’t need a lawyer again anytime soon, if I do, Crossroads Law will be my choice.

I separated from my spouse and needed a formal agreement drawn and used this office. The staff were so supportive and helpful right from start to finish. I would highly recommend them for any and all family law matters.

My experience with this firm was consistent with many of their clients feedback! The consultation went great Brandi made it sound like she was created to fight for her clients However, as soon as I retained her and specially after signing the retainer i relized that I made a huge mistake but out of desperation I thought I’ll stick it out and hope she’ll feel for me and my kids. Another mistake! She is without a doubt the most insensitive, unethical, careless person I have ever met! Cold, cold,cold! Please do not use this firm unless you read , research and believe the lowest rating feedback. I will be filing complaints against this firm with law society of Alberta as soon as I have time to do so and I am hoping other victims of this firm will follow suit.

Brett Carlson handled my case with the upmost professionalism and I was greatly surprised and pleased to find a lawyer that demonstrates empathy. I had a phone call with Ms. Zaoral . My experience could not have been better! She was friendly extremely helpful, obviously very knowledgeable. She was such a delight to speak with about an unfortunate situation. If you need legal counsel I can’t recommend her enough! Everyone I dealt with at the office including the Paralegal Devonna McFarlane. Great experience overall.

I retained Davidson Fraese to draft a cohabitation agreement in March. My first free consultation phone call went great but that was the first and last positive interaction I had with my lawyer, Alana. When I received the first request for information they did not elaborate on what they actually needed to draft the agreement so I arrived to the first meeting with an incomplete package for them to work from. This opened the door for them to communicate back and forth with me more times than I thought necessary which ultimately added time and money onto my bill. This would be a common theme over the next month and a half. When I received drafts of the agreement they continued to ask for more and more information, make notes about things to discuss with me but not actually discuss them and also make changes that were not required or requested. Several weeks into the process I received a letter advising me that Alana was leaving the firm and my file would be handed off to a more senior, more expensive lawyer and dealt with when they had time. At this point I asked for the agreement to be finalized and my file closed. It took 3 times asking them to close my file, a phone call to follow up and over two weeks to finally get an agreement that still has errors. I would not recommend Davidson Fraese as they are unable to provide an accurate, complete document in a timely manner and at a reasonable cost.

I am ecstatic with the service Ryan Hamilton has provided! He has exceeded my expectations and has been an absolute pleasure to deal with for my family law matters. His response time was lighting speed and he accommodated my busy schedule, making it very easy to come to the office to review or sign documents. He was genuinely invested in ensuring I was treated fairly and was committed 100% to my case.
